Google has reportedly made a massive move in the energy space.

Spending around $4.75 billion dollars to acquire an entire energy company, all to keep up with the exploding power needs of its AI data centers. 

As artificial intelligence systems demand enormous amounts of electricity, tech giants are now racing to secure their own energy supplies instead of relying on traditional grids. This deal highlights how critical power has become in the AI era, where data centers run nonstop to train and operate advanced models.

Stephen and I caught up today for a coffee (no cakes). Steven reminded me that it was amost four years ago to the day that we met in the same coffee shop to start his book project, and that tomorrow, 20 January, was publication day in the USA. Wow!

I've learnt so much about how lifestyle is really ground zero for a healthy heart. I mean we are bombarded with thousands of messages about health, diet, supplements, hacks and more every day. The reality is, looking after your heart health means you're looking after you and your family.

Just what does it mean to be an Australian?

My AI Curious Week in Review: The Week AI Quietly Became the Channel

Two things happened last week that fundamentally shifted how marketing will work next.

AI is no longer just shaping how marketing is done. It is increasingly becoming where marketing happens.

Here are the five signals that mattered - 

1) ChatGPT moves into paid media - OpenAI has begun testing ads inside ChatGPT. This is the clearest signal yet that conversational AI is evolving from a productivity layer into a media channel. Search intent, discovery, and consideration are collapsing into a single interface, often without a click.
Signal to watch: Who controls targeting, measurement, and brand safety inside AI answers.

2) “Buy inside AI” commerce edges closer - Retailers including JD Sports plan to enable transactions directly inside AI platforms. The funnel is compressing as discovery, persuasion, and transaction increasingly happen without a website visit.
Signal to watch: Product data quality and trust signals overtaking landing pages as conversion drivers.

3) AI agents move toward commercial reality
Across CES (Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas) and industry roadmaps, AI agents are shifting from experimentation to defined business roles. This is not about tools assisting marketers, but systems acting on behalf of users before a human sees a message.
Signal to watch: Optimising for AI decision-makers, not just human attention.

4) AI search pressure intensifies
As AI answers questions directly, referral traffic continues to decline. Content strategies built purely for SEO are under strain.
Signal to watch: “AI-visible content” designed to be referenced, not just clicked.

5) Google accelerates hyper-personal AI
Gemini is drawing more heavily on first-party signals like Gmail and YouTube. Personalisation is moving from segments to individual context at scale.
Signal to watch: Balancing relevance with trust and governance.

One human moment - 
At home, my son wrote a poem asking whether we risk exchanging real intelligence for constant distraction. He likes AI and is proud that I'm committed to it's ethical implementation. His point was simple: technology should add to our lives, not quietly take something away without us consciously or intentionally signing up for that exchange. It's a powerful thought.

Reflection -
Marketing leaders seem to have hit the ground running already - lots of activity and momentum. If 2025 was about learning the tools, 2026 will be about understanding where decisions are made, and by whom.
