Burnout isn’t always a breakdown 

Sometimes it happens in silence.

Sounds positive. Often... it’s not.

Back in June, a lot of experienced IT professionals heard things like:

· “You’re on track, just keep doing what you’re doing.”

· “We really value you, but budgets are tight.”

· “Let’s look at this again in 6–12 months.”

Fast forward to December.

Same title. Same pay band. More responsibility.

If that’s you, it’s normal to wonder:

“Did I just waste another year waiting for something that was never really planned?”

On the surface, it’s praise. Underneath, it can mean:

“We’re comfortable leaving you where you are.”

You don’t need to be aggressive. But you do need to get specific next time:

· What exact outcomes are required for the next level?

· How will they measure you?

· What’s the realistic timeframe and process?

If your manager can’t answer those clearly, you don’t have a promotion plan. You have a holding pattern.

As you look back on this year, it’s worth asking: Did my mid-year review move me closer to promotion, or just keep me busy?

4 years ago, I sat in my office staring at an offer letter.

It was a promotion that would make me HR Director.

Everything I had worked for was right there on paper.

I felt frozen. I kept thinking 

"They're going to realize they made a mistake, 

I'm not ready."

That wasn't the first time I felt that way.

The same voice telling me I didn't deserve it. 

That I had just gotten lucky. 

Impostor syndrome doesn't ask for permission to show up.

It arrives precisely when you're about to level up. 

When you're about to step into something bigger. 

So, I took that offer. I moved to Michigan, and I thrived.

Impostor syndrome isn't evidence that you're not ready.

Yesterday I met Sairy Garcia in person for the first time. 

I gave her a huge hug, and said, “Thank you.”

Client: I wasn't sure if I was ready yet.

Me: What about when you had that innovative idea but didn't share it?

Client: I thought I'd wait until it was more developed.

Me: There's your answer.

Client: What do you mean?

Me: You're not competing with Sandi.

You're competing with yourself.

- Every time you decided not to speak up
- Every time you waited for the "perfect time" vs executing

You lost!

It's you vs. you.

The competition isn't out there in the office.

It's in the mirror.

Client: So what do I do?

Me: You already know what you have to do.

He got it.

4 months later, that dreamed role was his.

Not because he became more talented or smarter.

But because he stopped competing and focused on himself.

The person holding you back isn't your colleague.

It's the version of you that's still waiting for permission.

Nobody tells you that being an expat means questioning 

your entire life choices in an airport terminal every time.

Just spent 5 days wrapped in hugs, drowning in tacos, 

and soaking up laughter with the people I love most. 

Now I'm back, and that familiar ache is sitting in my chest.

You can love your life abroad and still feel like you're being 

torn in half every time you leave. 

Success and sacrifice can look identical from certain angles.

Every goodbye makes you wonder: am I brave or just stubborn? 

Is this distance building something beautiful or slowly breaking something irreplaceable?

I don't have answers. 

Maybe there is no "right" decision

just the one you make, and what you build with it.

Being an expat means living with your heart stretched. 

It means carrying home with you because you can't stay.

you're not alone in this feeling.

My former boss told me: “Trust is everything.”

Six months later: “You’re top talent. Your future is secure.”

Nine months later: “Everything is changing. Your role should be fine.”

Eleven months later: “You’re doing great. Keep going.”

Twelve months later: “We’re removing you from your role. Good luck.”

Last Thursday, Mexico won Miss Universe. 

I watched the event with my 9-year-old daughter. 

And I did it for a reason.

A couple of weeks ago, the Mexico representative, 

Fatima Bosch, was very publicly humiliated 

by one of the organizers, 

and what she did made me want my daughter 

to learn that lesson.

When Fatima was called "dumb" by this man, 

she walked away from the room (not crying or making 

drama) but with dignity and pride, and she said:

"It doesn’t matter if you have a big dream or a crown. 

If it takes away your dignity, you should walk away"

I'm a mom, and I just wanted to give her a massive hug. 

As a Latina, I know how hard it is to speak up. 

She was risking her participation and didn't hesitate. 

I wanted my daughter to learn that lesson.

I know our new Miss Universe will use the power 

of the crown to make a positive change in the world.

Thanks for the life lesson for all women, Fatima.

Around 150 million people worldwide are experiencing homelessness, living without the safety and comfort of a home. Your roof, your bed, your walls are precious gifts.


- If you are reading this, you are more fortunate than 2.6 billion people.

Over 2.6 billion people in the world lack internet access, unable to connect, learn, or communicate the way you can right now. The fact that you're reading these words means you have access to a world of information and connection.


But most of all, you are blessed if you have someone to call family.

Whether by blood or by choice, having people who love you, support you, and stand by you is the greatest wealth of all. Not everyone has this treasure.

Take a moment today to appreciate what you have. 

Gratitude transforms what we have into enough, and more. 

It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, 

and confusion into clarity.

I spent years leading without knowing what I stood for.

I was reactive. Inconsistent. Exhausted.

Then my mentor asked me:

"What kind of leader do people remember you as?"

I had no answer.

I realized I'd been managing tasks, not leading people.

I was following everyone else's playbook instead of writing my own.

That's when I created what I now call the Leadership Vision Framework.

Here's how it works:

Step 1: Name your non-negotiables.
What will you never compromise on? 
Transparency? 
Respect? 
Growth?
Write three. These become your filter for every decision.

Step 2: Define your legacy statement.
One sentence. "I want to be remembered as the leader who ___________."
This is your North Star when things get messy.

Step 3: Identify your leadership triggers.
What situations make you react vs. respond?
Knowing your triggers helps you lead with intention, not emotion.

Step 4: Audit your actions.
Do your daily behaviors reflect your vision?
If not, something's misaligned. Fix it.

Step 5: Share it with your team.
Your vision isn't a secret. 
When your team knows what you stand for, they trust you more.

I use this framework with every leader I coach.

It's the difference between managing people and 

inspiring them.

Your leadership vision isn't about perfection.

It's about clarity. 

Consistency. 

And showing up as the leader you want to be remembered as.

I used to be a passive leader, until I learned it 

kills more teams than bad decisions ever will.

I avoided hard conversations about declining performance... 
My team read it as: "Mediocrity is acceptable here."

I ignored toxic behavior because it felt uncomfortable... 
My team read it as: "Your wellbeing doesn't matter."

I spotted problems but told myself I was too busy to act... 
My team read it as: "Nothing will change. Ever."

I wanted to be nice and accepted. 

But it diminished my worth as a leader.

I thought I was avoiding conflict. 

I was creating a bigger one down the road.
