Yesterday, I was a loser and a fraud.

Today I hit 15,000 followers. 

When I was 5 years old, my dad asked me what I want to be when I grow up.

I paused for dramatic effect. 

The moment I entered this world, I knew what I wanted.

And in my heart, I knew I could have taken the easy road.

(Becoming a world leader, or the world’s first ethical billionaire.)

But I chose something more ambitious.

“Father, I say this knowing full well that it will be an arduous journey, but one day I hope to cross the threshold of 15,000 followers on the world’s sh*ttiest social media platform.”

(This is how I spoke back then. I was born in the UK)

My Dad looked at me, smiled and said:

“Son, you can be whatever you want to be.” 

(Less than a year later, my parents had Rotimi Adelakun. Apparently the traditional Nigerian meaning of his name is “backup retirement plan???”)

Today, I’ve achieved what I set out to do when I was 5 years old.

And it’s because all of you choose to continue to tune into my daily mental breakdowns and occasional video advice.

WHAT ON EARTH IS THIS?? 😭 

A year together and you never knew me at all.

We're done. I've moved on. Claude gets me.

“I mean, we’re basically rich now right?” 

It was 2018. I’d just started my new job at Shopify making $70,000/yr.

(For my American audience, that’s like $112.87 USD/yr with the current exchange rates)

I remember telling Maggie that I couldn’t believe that I’d made it already.

How we were about to live our dream life, and how at my age I’d already found the job to fund it. 

I mean look at these numbers: 

Rent: $500
Groceries: $500
Fun budget: $500

So what was I going to do with the remaining gajillion dollars I was making every month?

It was all so exciting! I had gone from an unhappy employee at my last company, to working at my dream company, and being paid a salary I was thrilled about.

There was just one big problem that I hadn’t realized yet.

And if you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that you’ve experienced this too. 

So I ask you…

What happened the last time you hit a big goal of yours? 

Something you dreamed about. Something you worked your ass off for.

You reach it and then… what?

Inner peace? Eternal fulfillment? A sense of calm that lasts for generations to come?

Pffft 😂

…Yeah so, this was my very first lesson in the fact that human beings cannot live without aspirations and goals. 

And the more we learn, the more we yearn. (That was a bar 🔥)

But the problem is, we often chase things at the expense of what matters most:

Our health. Time with loved ones. The things that make us, us.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with ambition.

Just don’t lose yourself going after shiny things for the wrong reasons.

Accomplishment feels amazing… but only for a moment.

I mean, when I joined Shopify, that high lasted two weeks, max.  

Then I was on to the next thing.

We all get caught up in the chase.

But most of the time, we’re chasing for approval, admiration, or validation from people who don’t really care about how we live our lives. 

It’s easier said than done but, choose your own happiness as much as you possibly can.

Dig deep and find what that thing is. 

I’m willing to bet that it’s not tied to the milestones you’re chasing right now.

But there’s still time to change that :).

Most people just use their product. 

We stalked them. 

Then proceeded to fall into a rabbit hole of their content across platforms…

Then we blinked, blacked out, and woke up having made them a video?

Yeah, inspiration hit us pretty hard 😂

You see, Asana’s video content is already fantastic.

On top of that, their branding is incredible.

We just added a little bit of A2 Media magic on the visual storytelling side of things.	

As a former professional magician, one of my biggest obsessions is directing attention. 

AKA knowing exactly what we want our audience to pay attention to, and when. 

That’s the lens we brought to this piece, and I hope you enjoy it.

If your videos feel like they should work, but don’t...

You’re probably missing one of these 6 LinkedIn video rules. 

(The video says 5 rules, but I forgot a major one haha. Whoops!)

I’ve been there, and I used to think that the problem was our video quality. 

So I did everything you’re “supposed” to do. 

Bought all the fancy gear, spent more time editing, and really leveled up our productions.

And guess what happened?

That’s right! We didn’t get more leads 😂

I don’t want you to waste years figuring this out like I did. 

So I’m here to reveal some easy tweaks that moved the needle for us. 

Namely:
→ 3 text tips to boost comprehension
→ 3 video tips to keep people watching
→ 1 bonus rule I forgot to say out loud

3 things you should have in the text part of your post: 

1️⃣ Ask a question: Most people don’t comment because they don’t know what to say. Help them!

2️⃣ Don’t spoil the whole thing: Share most of the value in your text post, but leave at least one insight as a reward for viewers who take the time to watch. 

3️⃣ Have a CTA: Doesn’t have to be salesy. Invite them to check out another post, watch another video, or save the video for later. Anything that moves them along the buyers journey.

3 things you should have in the video part of your post:

1️⃣ Always have captions: 80% of people scroll LinkedIn without sound. No captions = No view.

2️⃣ Grab attention fast: A great visual in the first 3 seconds leads to 58% higher watch times.

3️⃣ Add an in-video text title: Viewers should instantly know what they’ll get if they stick around.

There’s a ton more I could tell you, but these 6 things are enough to help you make a noticeable difference in the number of meaningful conversations you have. 

And conversations are where deals happen :).

Me: "I don't think we're the right agency for you"

2 years later, we're still working with Okta/Auth0.

You never know where a conversation with no agenda is going to take you.

Now, I'm sure any salesperson reading this is thinking: "Why would you disqualify yourself?" 😂

But hear me out. I didn't even realize it was a sales call.

A couple nights before, one of my best friends reached out. 

She called because I was telling her about how I was stretching myself too thin recently.

"It might help to chat with someone who has gone through the same thing. Want me to connect you?"

I took the call. 

Little did I know my new friend Greg was about to turn my world upside down.

5 minutes in, we're laughing like old friends. 

Talking about all the hard stuff that goes into being THE video person.

Then he says: "Hey, I know this isn't why we're chatting, but we're actually looking for someone to help us out. What do you think about working with us?"

I was shocked.

Someone at this crazy huge company wants to work with US!?

Before I could think, the Canadian in me replied: "I don't know if we're the right people. I mean, we're going through a lot of the same problems, right?"

He laughed.

"Don't worry, I have a feeling you're the right person to do this with."

He was wrong. This is the worst partnership that has ever exis-

I'm kidding. It's been absolutely wonderful.

We've learned a ton from Greg, and we've brought our best work to him and the team.

All because he took a chance on me.

All because of a single call with great energy.

I have to be honest, I wouldn't have a functioning business without my network.

So take those calls. Meet those people. In whatever way suits you.

Sure, you’ll find that some people aren't for you. 

But you meet a lot of incredible people along the way.

Greg, I appreciate you more than you know. Thanks for being a friend, an incredible champion, and a teacher.

Last week, I was going down the rabbit hole of Airtable's YouTube content.

And I stumbled across this interesting podcast about building a challenger brand.

For those of you that aren’t familiar, it’s basically a brand that’s not afraid to be bold.

My kinda podcast. 

About 30 minutes in, Howard talked about how being the underdog fuels him.

And I felt that. 

Because when you're building something without the budget, the brand recognition, or the safety net, you just have to find a way. 

So I clipped it and told my team to do what we do best.

Last month, Maggie Arai kicked me out of the house.

Do you suck at video? Me too. 

Here are 5 things I wish I knew when I started. 

1️⃣ Your first batch of videos will suck. A lot. Like, a lot, a lot.

You'll hate the sound of your voice, the way you look, and the idea of putting yourself out there. However, if you commit to it for a couple of months something magical will happen... One day you won’t suck 🤷🏿‍♂️

2️⃣ Batching your content is the only way to stay sane. 

Yes, there are creators out there that create net new content every day. Is it insanely hard? Yes. Do they have mental breakdowns every other day? Also yes. The easiest thing to do is stick to one focused day of filming every couple of weeks, and shoot a ton of content at once. Then go back later and chop it up into something useful.

📌 Ex. Record for an hour, cover 10 topics, turn it into 20 pieces of VALUABLE and ACTIONABLE content.

3️⃣ Nobody reeeally cares about your fancy equipment.

Yeah you look better, but your storytelling, delivery, and takeaways are probably still unclear. Stop buying equipment that you don't need to tell stories that people don't want to hear in 4k. A fancy camera won't make your content more interesting, just like an expensive pan won't make you a better cook.

4️⃣ BE YOURSELF, DAMN IT.

The reason the cliche “don’t meet your heroes” is a thing is because people tend to not be themselves online. It's much easier to show up as the person you are and create content authentically (I don’t care if it’s a buzzword, it’s important) than try to be someone you're not. There's nothing more disappointing than meeting people you look up to in real life and realizing that they're not who they said they were.

5️⃣ Listen to your audience.

The questions they ask, the comments they leave, the content they engage with most - it's all valuable data telling you exactly what to create next. Listen to them, and you’ll reduce the likelihood of creative blocks or lack of a clear direction. All you need to commit to is keeping your goals and your viewers’ interests aligned.

If I'd known these 5 things from day one, I would have:

→ Saved thousands of dollars on equipment.
→ Not wasted hundreds of hours trying to figure out what to create.
→ Not stressed over trying to be someone I wasn’t. 

The good news is, now I can teach others to not make the same mistakes.

Be patient, batch smartly, listen to your audience, and stay authentic. 

And for goodness sake, just use your phone.

I came to Canada against my will in 2010. 

My dad wanted me to continue my education here but I wanted to study in the UK. 

For the first week, I was resentful then I slowly fell in love with the country.

But things were not always smooth.

1 year after that we moved into our new home. 

In 2022, I became a Canadian Citizen.

Then in 2023, we sold our first home and bought this second one that will be our family home. 

My businesses was making more monthly than I used to make annually in my first job when I left corporate.

Today, I get to take care of my family and travel the world with my wife. 

There were so many moments when I felt like I wanted to move back to Nigeria.

And many days when I thought entrepreneurship would never work for me.

But I'm glad I didn't.

I'll never forget the first real mentor I had.

He referred me for a role that I had no idea about.

Every chance he got, he would nominate me for opportunities.

So as soon as I became I lead, I took the same approach.

Because that's what great leaders do:

Try to get you into rooms you don't know exist.

Last year, Mark Zuckerberg just paid someone $1.5 BILLION to join Meta.

Then Meta announced that they're laying off 600 people. 

The person Mark hired is Andrew Tulloch, Co-Founders of Thinking Machines Lab. 

Andrew's startup is already worth $12 billion even though they haven't released a product yet. 

And the 600 people getting laid off will receive 16 weeks severance. 

There's a something so unbelievable about this whole story. 

But it just reinforces what I've always believed: 

Companies will always do what is best for them first. 

So it's your responsibility to do what is best for you too. 

Build something you own.

Last year, I spoke to a guy who quit his $130k job to be an entrepreneur. 

I told him this was a terrible idea. 

He said he had found a business online that would make him rich. 

The truth is that he was probably right. 

But the problem was that he had never even tried to run a business before. 

So he spent a few months "working on the branding". 

And then hired someone to "help shape the go-to-market strategy."

6 months later, we caught up for coffee and I asked: 

"How many potential customers have you spoken to?"

He said, "Oh we're not ready to launch yet so none."

At that point, I knew this idea wasn't going to make it off his laptop. 

And it never did. 

He ran out of money, and his wife made him get another job. 

I've seen this so many times. 

You don't have to quit your full-time job to start building your own business. 

Use your evenings and weekends, post content online and find a problem people want help solving. 

"Go big or go home" is how so many people end up back at home. 

Start small and move quick.

I made $38 an hour working in customer success. 

Then got promoted to a new role making $76 an hour. 

Back then I thought I was living the dream. 

Then it hit me one day. 

If a company is paying me $150k/year to work 40 hours a week.

Then they're probably making $1 million or more on my efforts alone. 

So why not just figure out how to turn my expertise into a business. 

And earn $500k+ while working fewer hours. 

Over the next 10 years, I believe this same revelation will hit millions of people. 

As Jim Rohn says: 

Wages will make you a living. 

Profits will make you a fortune.

→ Quit her job at 23
→ Bought a traditional business 
→ Grew it to over $1 million in revenue

All before she turned 25. 

Now she spends her days working for herself, spending time with her family and travelling more often. 

I can't imagine what the next 30 years will look like for her. 

You can't add days to your life. 

But you can add life to your days.

I fired one of the best employees I've ever had. 

Because I figured out how great of an entrepreneur he actually was. 

I got a cold message from Tosin Togbe on LinkedIn back in 2022. 

He was living in Nigeria but looking to land roles with companies in North America. 

We stayed connected and in 2024, I decided to hire him into our sales team. 

This guy learned insanely quick & crushed it in sales which wasn't surprising! 

But what was even more incredible was how much he was learning behind the scenes in his own time. 

I was paying him pretty well but I realized that I was holding him back. 

So I gave him a big bonus, fired him and told him to build his business. 

We stayed close friends and kept chatting every month. 

My theory was that he could likely out earn whatever we could pay him.

→ He studied all my LinkedIn frameworks and now has 15,000+ followers
→ Learned how to productize his knowledge & build high-ticket offers
→ Learned how to negotiate brand deals now makes 4-figures/month
→ Learned how to delegate and hired his brother to run his brand

Last month, I got to meet Tosin for the first time while I was in Lagos & he gave me an update.

→ He got married & gets to travel almost monthly with his wife
→ His solo business generating 9x what I was paying him
→ He's building a home for his parents in Nigeria
→ Bought land & built his own home too 

What a journey!

I spent the last 6 days in Dubai at the 1 Billion Followers Summit

And I can't believe what I just experienced. 

30,000+ attendees, 400+ Speakers and so many unbelievable lessons.

As I gave the closing keynote on one of the stages, all I could think was: 

I can't believe how much posting daily on LinkedIn alone has changed my life.

And the quality of relationships that it has produced.

You can’t lose if you don’t quit

Before I became a tech sales rep, I had no idea that job existed. 

Before I joined Shopify as a Customer Success Manager, I had never heard of that job title. 

Before I started my career bootcamp in 2019, I only had 4 years of work experience. 

We helped 30 people land jobs & I had never even worked in recruiting. 

Before I went viral on LinkedIn in 2020, I didn’t know “content creation” was a thing. 

Now I run a 7-figure company that’s powered by LinkedIn. 

And our systems have helped founders generate over $21M in revenue in the last 3 years. 

Stop telling yourself that you need to be qualified enough to do things. 

Growth comes from doing things you are not qualified to do yet.

Consistency always compounds.

A founder I worked with for 8 weeks just hired a wealth manager. 

Before we worked together, his side hustle made less than $25k in a year. 

In November 2025, that same business earned $90,000 in one month. 

So this founder did what I wish I did years ago. 

They hired someone to manage their money. 

The biggest mistake I see from entrepreneurs is that they try to figure everything out on their own. 

→ How to build better offers
→ How to hire the right people 
→ How to scale with paid marketing
→ How to manage their money as it grows

I made this mistake & lost a ton of time and money thinking I was smarter than I was. 

If you want to go to the next level in your business

Just hire people that have been to that level before.

108,000 were laid off in January.

That's the highest start to a year since 2009! 

Companies are replacing more and more employees with AI. 

And focusing more on profit than pure growth. 

Unicorn businesses are being built with teams made up of less than 50 people!

Your company is not your family. 

You are completely replaceable at work. 

Build something you own this year.

I spoke to a founder that "got lucky" last year. 

She spent 15 years working insanely hard as a recruiter.  

Then one day decided to just build her own recruiting company. 

In her first year, the business made $150k in revenue. 

One of her clients was so impressed with the quality of her candidates that he introduced her to a friend. 

That friends was the head of a startup that had raised over $100 million and was ready to expand quickly. 

She helped them hire hundreds of extremely talented people across the world. 

So in only her second year in business she hit $5 million in revenue. 

This year, they'll do over $15 million. 

I asked her what made her so successful and she started laughing. 

Then said "I guess I got lucky"

What people consider as luck is usually just years of hard work behind the scenes. 

The harder your work, the luckier you will get.

In 2019, I used to charge $150 for a resume review.

To me, that was a lot of money - not only to spend, but also to charge.

I sucked as an entrepreneur for many years no matter how hard I worked

It seemed like I just could never generate enough money to take care of myself & my family.

That's all I actually wanted - to be completely self sufficient. 

But I didn't know what I didn't know.

Eventually, I found the Hormozi videos. The Russell Brunson breakdowns. 

The endless "how to create an offer" content.

It didn't click right away.

But by 2021, I finally figured it out. 

So I broke down exactly what finally worked for me.

The 8 steps we now use (and teach) to build high-ticket offers that actually sell.

None of this is theory. 

The 8 P's:
→ Problem (and why you must start here)
→ Persona (who you solve it for matters more than what you solve)
→ Prototype (all the ways you could solve this)
→ Package (making it feel premium)
→ Positioning (your unique mechanism)
→ Pricing (why it must be high)
→ Payment plans (the structure most people mess up)
→ Promotion (where 90% of people fail)

Here's the truth: you can nail the first 7 steps and still struggle to make any money online.

Because step 8 is where you actually generate real revenue.

If you've been sitting on expertise but can't figure out how to turn it into revenue, this will change that.

My longest standing meeting has been running for 4 years. 

With Sefunmi Osinaike!

We both launched our career businesses around the same time. 

Our businesses have completely evolved but we still have a monthly meeting where we talk through our biggest challenges.

And also get to share our biggest wins when they happen. 

While I was living in Paris, Sefunmi flew in & came to lunch straight from the airport so we could have lunch together. 

He was on the verge of a massive life decision and it felt more appropriate to have the conversation in person. 

One of the best parts about being a builder is meeting people who are smarter than you AND who make you feel safe. 

Surround yourself with those people and you will win in the long-term.

One of the best things about living in Paris was meeting Ariel Renous

We met on LinkedIn and decided to go for lunch. 

On our second meeting he asked me to teach a class on Personal Branding for his company Augment.org

My first thought was "I'm not sure if he's being serious"

My second thought was "This guy must really believe in me"

Well I said "Yes" and a few weeks later, I spent 6 hours with the Augment team recording. 

That one project has led to:

→ New relationships with some awesome entrepreneurs
→ Millions of dollars in revenue for both our companies
→ Tons of credibility & countless opportunities for me 

But most importantly, an incredible friendship with one of the most generous humans I've ever met in Ariel. 

Every time we meet for lunch I leave with so many lessons and a ton of wisdom!

I'm 100% sure this guy is going to build a once in a generation company with Augment.org

And can't wait to witness it. 

Play long-term games with long-term people.

We really don't talk about money enough. 

I only bought my first home because a friend told me about pre-construction properties. 

Then I built a 6-figure investment portfolio because another mentor explained ETFs to me. 

I thought I had to pick stocks!
