All good things must come to an end

Yes, we're ending our business relationship...

I've known Tina for 7 years and worked with her on and off for 5.

We have a lot in common and we've become great friends.

Now we're going in different directions. Which makes me sad.

But I'm also excited - for both of us!

Tina wants to do something that lights up her soul, and I have no doubt what she's working on is going to be incredible. (Watch that space!)

And I want to do what I do best - helping people with their LinkedIn & business growth strategy. 

So we're both doubling down on what works for each of us.

It doesn't mean I'll never work with Tina again. I'm sure I will. We'll always have a connection and I know we'll collaborate on projects in future.

But now it's time for each of us to spread our wings.

I made a commitment to myself that I would post every day Monday to Friday...

So this is me keeping my promise to myself.

I really didn't feel like posting today, or have anything that I really wanted to say.

I get those days sometimes, but usually I have content written in advance.

Not today.

So at least you know this was written by me and not ChatGPT 😅

I'll give you the exact strategy to do it.

I created aa resources document for a workshop on how to use LinkedIn newsletters to combat falling impressions.

I know why your followers don't convert into leads.

And I know how to fix it.

LinkedIn is different from all other social media platforms in may ways...

• It's for networking
• It's great for business
• It can help you find a job
• It's the 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 platform
• Its users are the highest earners

All these things are true, but there's something else very different about LinkedIn that you need to understand if you want to use it to help grow your business.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘃𝘀. 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀

It's great to have thousands of followers on LinkedIn.

And you should always aim to have as many as possible.

But connections are equally, if not more important.

That's because of the way the algorithm works.

Whenever you post something the algorithm runs a test with your 1st degree connections before anyone else.

So you have to be sure that not only does your content land with them, but they are also the right kind of person, i.e. your ICP.

If you don't have a high percentage of your ideal clients in your network, you may grow your following with random people, signalling to LinkedIn that they should show your content to more random people, instead of your potential clients.

And here's the most important part: 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆. 

But 𝗡𝗢𝗧 your followers (unless they have open profile...)

You might think "so what?" 

Well, I'll tell you what... 🤓

Business is about relationships, not followers.

You can garner attention and communicate '1-to-many' through content.

And that goes some way to building a relationship.

But if you sell a high-ticket offer, you need to have 1-to-1 conversations.

So when your followers send you signals like:

• Subscribing to your LI newsletter
• Opting in to your lead magnets
• Commenting on your posts
• Engaging with your posts
• Inviting you to connect
• Viewing your profile
• Or following you

This is the exact moment 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 to start a real, human 1-to-1 conversation. 

It takes effort, but it's the fastest way to grow your business.

My first time speaking in public was a disaster.

I didn't just bomb. I crashed and burned.

I was asked to present in front of about 200 engineers and technicians at the company I worked for. 

The subject I was given didn't feel comfortable from the beginning, but still, I agreed to it, created my little slide deck and off I went.

The brief I was given by the organiser was "just have a discussion - get people talking and debating".

I had no idea whatsoever how to do that and I was nervous as hell.

On the morning of the event, I got into a conversation with one of the other presenters and I shared what I was going to cover.

He asked me to show him my slides, so I did, of course. Why wouldn't I?

He said they were great and it made him remember something he'd missed in his own presentation. That actually helped calm my nerves a little...

He was speaking right before me and to my horror, when he got up to present, I saw that he'd taken the main theme of my presentation and made it the main theme of his.

I can't really remember much about my presentation, except for that awful feeling of complete shame and embarrassment. 

I didn't present in public again for many years. But of course, if you want to progress in a company or in business, public speaking is something you need to master.

So I slowly got back on that horse and kept trying...

I don't think I'll ever feel like I've mastered it. But I don't get hung up on that either.

Last week I ran a workshop. 

I was expecting 20-30 people but over 100 showed up and they were all called Adrian Shiel.

That's not some kind of pun. The were actually named 'Adrian Shiel' in Zoom!

For a few milliseconds, that horrible feeling came over me that reminded me about that incident years earlier. 

But I caught it. I took it in my stride and laughed about it. Everything was fine.

Does this mean I've mastered public speaking?

Probably not, and probably never will. 

But I no longer get stressed out when things don't go to plan. 

So I guess I've mastered something within myself. I'll take that.

People are freaking out about the boost feature. 

But I’m laughing about it. Why? 

Because I know the real money on LI is in the DMs.

So I'm not that bothered by declining impressions.

People come here and post AI generated 'meh' posts and think that's going to get them clients.

But what gets overlooked is that it doesn't matter how good your content is (well, I guess good content helps 🤓).

If you don't know how to network and build relationships, it's always going to be a struggle.

Because it comes down to this:

People do business with people they trust.

So if you just focus on building trust, it will help your business grow.

And in my opinion there's no better place to do that than LinkedIn.
