All good things must come to an end

Yes, we're ending our business relationship...

I've known Tina for 7 years and worked with her on and off for 5.

We have a lot in common and we've become great friends.

Now we're going in different directions. Which makes me sad.

But I'm also excited - for both of us!

Tina wants to do something that lights up her soul, and I have no doubt what she's working on is going to be incredible. (Watch that space!)

And I want to do what I do best - helping people with their LinkedIn & business growth strategy. 

So we're both doubling down on what works for each of us.

It doesn't mean I'll never work with Tina again. I'm sure I will. We'll always have a connection and I know we'll collaborate on projects in future.

I made a commitment to myself that I would post every day Monday to Friday...

So this is me keeping my promise to myself.

I really didn't feel like posting today, or have anything that I really wanted to say.

I get those days sometimes, but usually I have content written in advance.

Not today.

So at least you know this was written by me and not ChatGPT 😅

I know why your followers don't convert into leads.

And I know how to fix it.

LinkedIn is different from all other social media platforms in may ways...

• It's for networking
• It's great for business
• It can help you find a job
• It's the 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 platform
• Its users are the highest earners

All these things are true, but there's something else very different about LinkedIn that you need to understand if you want to use it to help grow your business.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘃𝘀. 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀

It's great to have thousands of followers on LinkedIn.

And you should always aim to have as many as possible.

But connections are equally, if not more important.

That's because of the way the algorithm works.

Whenever you post something the algorithm runs a test with your 1st degree connections before anyone else.

So you have to be sure that not only does your content land with them, but they are also the right kind of person, i.e. your ICP.

If you don't have a high percentage of your ideal clients in your network, you may grow your following with random people, signalling to LinkedIn that they should show your content to more random people, instead of your potential clients.

And here's the most important part: 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆. 

But 𝗡𝗢𝗧 your followers (unless they have open profile...)

You might think "so what?" 

Well, I'll tell you what... 🤓

Business is about relationships, not followers.

You can garner attention and communicate '1-to-many' through content.

And that goes some way to building a relationship.

But if you sell a high-ticket offer, you need to have 1-to-1 conversations.

So when your followers send you signals like:

• Subscribing to your LI newsletter
• Opting in to your lead magnets
• Commenting on your posts
• Engaging with your posts
• Inviting you to connect
• Viewing your profile
• Or following you

This is the exact moment 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 to start a real, human 1-to-1 conversation. 

It takes effort, but it's the fastest way to grow your business.

My first time speaking in public was a disaster.

I didn't just bomb. I crashed and burned.

I was asked to present in front of about 200 engineers and technicians at the company I worked for. 

The subject I was given didn't feel comfortable from the beginning, but still, I agreed to it, created my little slide deck and off I went.

The brief I was given by the organiser was "just have a discussion - get people talking and debating".

I had no idea whatsoever how to do that and I was nervous as hell.

On the morning of the event, I got into a conversation with one of the other presenters and I shared what I was going to cover.

He asked me to show him my slides, so I did, of course. Why wouldn't I?

He said they were great and it made him remember something he'd missed in his own presentation. That actually helped calm my nerves a little...

He was speaking right before me and to my horror, when he got up to present, I saw that he'd taken the main theme of my presentation and made it the main theme of his.

I can't really remember much about my presentation, except for that awful feeling of complete shame and embarrassment. 

I didn't present in public again for many years. But of course, if you want to progress in a company or in business, public speaking is something you need to master.

So I slowly got back on that horse and kept trying...

I don't think I'll ever feel like I've mastered it. But I don't get hung up on that either.

Last week I ran a workshop. 

I was expecting 20-30 people but over 100 showed up and they were all called Adrian Shiel.

That's not some kind of pun. The were actually named 'Adrian Shiel' in Zoom!

For a few milliseconds, that horrible feeling came over me that reminded me about that incident years earlier. 

But I caught it. I took it in my stride and laughed about it. Everything was fine.

Does this mean I've mastered public speaking?

Probably not, and probably never will. 

But I no longer get stressed out when things don't go to plan. 

So I guess I've mastered something within myself. I'll take that.

People are freaking out about the boost feature. 

But I’m laughing about it. Why? 

Because I know the real money on LI is in the DMs.

So I'm not that bothered by declining impressions.

People come here and post AI generated 'meh' posts and think that's going to get them clients.

But what gets overlooked is that it doesn't matter how good your content is (well, I guess good content helps 🤓).

If you don't know how to network and build relationships, it's always going to be a struggle.

Because it comes down to this:

People do business with people they trust.

So if you just focus on building trust, it will help your business grow.

And in my opinion there's no better place to do that than LinkedIn.

I started to find it difficult to:

 I self-diagnosed dementia and decided to delay sharing this diagnosis with my family for as long as possible.

 It became very challenging to run my business. I was also losing opportunities due to overthinking and low confidence.
 
 One day, purely by chance, I discovered that my. Self-diagnosed dementia was indeed perimenopause brain fog!

It was a temporary condition rather than a long-term life-ending one

Why didn't anyone warn or inform me about me about this?

 It would have saved me a whole lot of anxiety and stress.

 Like 90% of respondents to an online survey by the National Library of Medicine 2022, I was not taught about Menopause at school.

I accepted an invitation
 for the wrong reasons.

It was for a speaker event by the self made speaker academy  
(founded by Dr Byron Cole & Bianca Miller - Cole

 I secretly wanted to compare how they spoke to see how  close  I was to their level.

However, I was blown away by what was said, as well as how they said it.

The talks that shared experiences of:
 • Domestic violence
 • Infertility
 • Cultural pressure
•  Child mortality

were deeply moving.

Like perimenopause, these are taboo topics.

 The silence surrounding them can make you unaware of how common these challenges are.

For example according to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), infertility affects approximately  1 in 7 heterosexual couples in the UK.

I had no idea!

Each speaker chose not to remain 
isolated,
 embarrassed, 
or guilty about their past.

Instead, they trained and turned their experiences into powerful stories 
that educate and inform those going through similar challenges, 

and help others to support them more effectively.

The beauty of the talks was learning from those who could present their stories professionally and purposefully.

So rather than comparing ourselves to others, it is more important to listen and see what we can learn from them.

But please remember whatever challenges you face in life,
 many others are silently experiencing them too.

There are those who use the learnings from their adversity
to transform their lives 

and  are available to help you too, regardless of what you have been through

Perimenopause Coach for business owners | Guiding you to see symptoms as signals you can act on to improve your health, relationships & business/ Mental Health instructor

What do you do when your GP says your blood tests are normal 
— but you still don't feel it?

At one of my workshops, an attendee shared that she had been to her GP three times in a year.

Each time, she explained her symptoms — brain fog, mood swings, and poor sleep, she suspected menopause

But each time, her blood test results contradicted that.

What would you do?

What you should do is tell the GP to ignore the blood test.

You see, if you are 45 or over and experiencing typical menopause symptoms,

 NICE and NHS guidance clearly advises GPs that:

“Do not routinely use hormone testing to diagnose menopause in women over 45 years with menopausal symptoms.”
 — NICE Guideline NG23: Menopause – Diagnosis and Management

This means your diagnosis should be based on your age and symptoms, not on blood tests.

This along with 

lack of  knowledge of menopause symptoms 
perspective of "viewing menopause as a natural phase that women should simply endure without complaint"

contribute to inequality in menopause care.

 Research shows:

Black women are five times less likely to be prescribed HRT (5.2%)
Asian women are four times less likely (6.2%)
Compared to White women (23.3%)

At the workshop, that same attendee booked another GP appointment.
 But this time, she went armed with information — NICE guidelines in hand.

She received the prescription she had been asking for.

So, if you are preparing to see your GP, remember to:

✅ Write your symptoms down.

 Track them in your phone or notebook — include how they impact your work, relationships, or wellbeing.

✅ Bring an advocate.

 Take someone with you if you experiencing brain fog or lost confidence 

✅ bring the NICE guidance (NG23).

 If you are over 45, diagnosis should be based on symptoms — not blood tests.

✅ Know when referral applies.

 If you are under 45, have breast cancer, or cannot take HRT, your GP may refer you to a specialist; otherwise, they should manage your care directly.

✅ Ask for a second opinion if you are not being listened to.
 Another GP in the same practice — or a menopause specialist — may make a difference if all else fails.

Conclusion :Perimenopause can last 8 years plus , too long to say you will endure life rather than live it.

💡 Lesson: 

 You must advocate for yourself during menopause.
 Being informed will increase your confidence — and more likely to get the outcome you want

Isolating myself so it would be less likely

Silently quitting in my business.
and the inevitable low sales were taken as confirmation that I was making the right decision

I downgraded my lifestyle as a result.

However, I soon found myself at a turning point that changed everything.

I discovered it was not dementia, but Menopause Brain Fog.

The decisions I was making were making the brain fog worse.


Back then, there were hardly any conversations about Perimenopause.

And even professionals misdiagnose perimenopause as a mental health disorder.

But I held onto a belief without taking steps to get the facts!

I can't get the time back.

So I  wanted to use this opportunity to clarify a couple of things so you do not put yourself in the position I did!

Brain fog

Caused by declining estrogen, leading to memory and concentration difficulties for some.

The Fawcett Society (based on ~4,000 women) found that 73% of women said they experienced “brain fog.

Once menopause is reached, the brain will more or less be back to normal, but slightly forgetful.

Dementia occurs due to

Protein buildup in the brain damages tissues and causes cells to die,
Reduced oxygen from blocked arteries leads to brain damage,
or when the front part of the brain is injured, affecting behaviour.

It affects thinking, mood, language, movement, memory, behaviour, reading, and recognition, etc.

In the UK, about 65% of all people with dementia are women.

Please do not worry, and remember.

that all women transition through menopause,
But most women will not develop dementia.

Dementia in midlife is very rare; it happens to roughly 3 in every 1,000 women around the world

Those with a family history of early-onset Alzheimer’s can be more vulnerable.

I am creating something
 I wish was available years ago.

Back when I was losing confidence in my business

 Missing opportunities…
 Forgetting things
 I would never usually forget…
Thinking to myself, “ this is dementia?"

 I pretended I was fine.

Brain fog = Dementia

Or so I thought.

For years, I lived with this belief.

 I isolated myself.

 And I unknowingly sabotaged my business.

I wish someone had told me:

 Dementia before about age 64 is rare.

Whereas menopause brain fog is common with
 🔹73% of 4,000 women reported it as a symptom
 (Fawcett Society, Menopause in the workplace)

I would have had a whole lot less anxiety and a better quality of life if I knew that.

Menopause brain fog is caused by:

 • declining hormone estradiol (E2), which has an important role regarding memory and focus

This affects 'messaging' in your brain
 in a similar way when you have bad reception on your mobile phone in an area with poor network.

Other perimenopause symptoms like hot flashes, disrupted sleep, mood changes, and high stress worsen brain fog.

So common menopause symptoms can cause  brain fog which is different from causes of dementia

But reassuringly, there are steps you can take to improve brain fog, 
which can help delay or prevent dementia from becoming an issue in the future.

Reduce Brain fog in Perimenopause

I created something I wish I had years ago.

Back when I was quietly losing confidence in my business…
 Missing opportunities…

 Forgetting things I’d never normally forget…
 And thinking to myself, “What if this is dementia?”

I kept going anyway 
 masking it, 
working around it, 

so no one would notice how much I was struggling
.
And then one day,
 scrolling on social media ,

 I saw something that listed every symptom I had been experiencing .
And there it was:

 Perimenopause brain fog.

I felt it immediately 
that weight lifting off my shoulders.

  I finally had a name for the thing that had been stealing my confidence.
 Not a lifelong illness

 a hormonal process I can now navigate.

Entrepreneurship is lonely enough.

 Entrepreneurship during perimenopause can feel like you’re running a marathon with a blind fold on 

So I have designed something specifically for us

Fear of Judgement Comes at a Price
A price I paid with my health

I used to think there was something wrong with
 people who would tell me their entire life story

 After I had only said "hello" to them
 in a queue at the supermarket.

Growing up, I learnt that when I shared concerns
 with friends or family,

 It could be used as ammunition against me
 If we fell out.

So I learnt to stay quiet.
 To be the listener.

During perimenopause,
 I had even more reasons to suppress
 how I was feeling.

Because of brain fog, I was not as sharp as I used to be.

 You see, I could no longer express myself
 in the way I wanted to.

 The right words had disappeared from my vocabulary.

After living like this for a few years,
 I gathered the courage
 to finally share my concerns with a couple of friends

 I instantly felt a huge burden lift off my shoulders.
To my surprise, they said they never noticed.

 So maybe I am far better than I thought at masking
( I wonder how many other women are masking too)

That moment not only gave me confidence
 to start sharing more with others,

 But it also taught me three things:

1. I can be my harshest critic.

2. Stress and anxiety increase when we stay silent—and they can worsen perimenopause symptoms.

3. Sharing challenges brings perspective and helps you find the people who will support, encourage, and uplift you—balancing out anyone who chooses to judge.

Talking to others became one of the best treatments for my symptoms.

 I just wish I had done it sooner.

Now, as a menopause coach,

 I make myself available so that women navigating perimenopause
have fewer challenges in finding people to talk to.

No one tells you

 That your body needs new habits in your forties, 
 just when your business demands the most from you.

 I was surprised at how quickly I reached the episode of life 
that I had been dreading.

 The longer I sat, trying to knock out as much work as possible, the more painful it became to stand up.

All the conversations I had had with older friends & relatives
 All the signs I had noticed in others
  was suddenly my reality.

"This is it, i thought the rest of my life is now on a downward slide of physical misery with challenging mobility issues.”

One day on holiday in the Lake District, 
 I was struggling to keep up with members of my family.

 We went on an uphill walk that seemed to have steps that would not end, which tested my stiff knees to their limit.

However, to my surprise
When we went on a similar walk the next day, 

My knees had undergone a miraculous recovery!

That is when I realised:
 It was not "ageing" I should be fearing

 But the effects of a sedentary/inactive lifestyle

Running a business is like housework.
 There is always something to do.

 You need to know when to stop
 as the work does not.

You see, it's not only that Perimenopause is medically linked to an increased risk of joint stiffness and early bone and muscle loss.

 But  it is not just ageing or hormonal changes 
Inactivity plays a significant role in the discomfort and stiffness that you experience during this stage.

When you focus on efficiently completing your to-do list, which means you are seated for hours

 It can come at the cost of your physical effectiveness in the future.

To feel the same during Perimenopause as you did before it, try adopting these habits: 

Let's call it the S.A.M.E. Guidance.

S – Stand and Stretch
 Break up long periods of sitting by standing every 30–45 minutes.

A – Active Minutes
 Aim for 30 minutes of walking a day.
 You can break it into three 10-minute blocks.

M – Move With Intention
 Choose walking over driving whenever you can.
 Or park slightly farther from your destination to increase your steps.

E – Enhance Your Recovery
 Support your muscles and bones with:
 • Epsom salt baths
 • Bone-strengthening exercises (check YouTube)
 • Vitamin D for bone health and mood

Lesson
You are older — but you are not old.
 You just need habits that support the version of you that exists today.
