When signing on to my latest role as a Deal Partner with Boardy I got to thinking about carried interest, as is tradition…

Venture Capital and Caddying: two different games, same swing thought.

In both, you're not the one swinging the club, but you're invested in the outcome. 

A good caddie reads the terrain, knows the player, and offers just enough advice to shape the shot without forcing it. 

VCs do the same: they read markets, assess founders, and offer capital and counsel without crowding the swing. 

Both require trust, timing, and the wisdom to say, “Maybe take the 7-iron instead.”

I have broadened my gaze when it comes to my own golf game since I started looping part time a couple years ago and I've learned a lot about VC since my time with Cohort 10 at Venture University back in 2020.

One thing is certain...sometimes the best move is knowing when not to speak.
