I just fixed the worst thing about vibe coding…

Here’s what everyone hates: 

We spend half our day staring at a blinking cursor, waiting for generation.
It is dead time.

I realized I could be at the gym, in a meeting, or on a walk while the work gets done.

So I set up a new workflow:

1. The Red Phone
I made a program where Claude Code actually calls my phone if it needs a human decision. If it doesn’t call, I don't look.

2. The Infinite Loop
I removed the stop hook. It runs for multiple iterations, repeatedly improving itself without me hitting "continue."

3. Autonomous QA
I have Claude run its own code reviews for PRs + run its own tests. By the time I look at it, it’s already polished.

And by "I made"... I mean this is completely Open Source and free, built by some brilliant minds.

I am getting insane output, but I am no longer chained to the desktop.

OpenAI is burning $1.4 trillion to win a market that doesn't exist yet.
Here's what the deal memos don't tell you:

The math doesn't math. $1.4T committed. $20B revenue. 70:1 ratio. 
They need 190% YoY growth for 8 years to make this work. 
That would make them bigger than Google by 2030.

The Nvidia deal isn't signed. That $100B "partnership"? Still a letter of intent. Nvidia's 10-Q says "no assurance" it closes. Stock popped anyway.

The real portfolio play:
Broadcom: $350-500B (custom inference)
Oracle: $300B (Stargate)
Microsoft: $250B (Azure lock-in)
Nvidia: $100B (training, maybe)
AMD: $90B (hedge against Nvidia)
AWS: $38B (multi-cloud)
CoreWeave: $22B (capacity)
Cerebras: $10B (latency-sensitive inference) ← announced today

What the smart money is actually thinking:

OpenAI isn't pre-buying compute. 
They're pre-buying optionality on AGI economics.

If inference costs drop 10x (Cerebras bet). 
If custom silicon outperforms GPUs (Broadcom bet). 
If demand explodes beyond current projections (all of the above), they own the infrastructure layer when it matters most.

The downside? $74B operating loss in 2028. 
Cash-flow positive maybe by 2030. 
Cumulative losses of $115B before they see daylight.

Compute dominance + talent gravity + multi-architecture hedging. The question isn't whether this is aggressive... it's whether being less aggressive is the bigger risk.

I rented a huge McMansion and flew the team out from 16 cities for a week of bonding, deep dives into our 2026 bets, and of course… fun at Universal studios. 

The outcome is consistently remarkable. 

My team comes back excited, more connected to each other, and more aligned than ever. 

If you're planning an offsite, here are 4 things I've learned over the years to help energize your team: 

1/ Don’t book a hotel 

Find the space where people can hang out casually. At our team size, a house with 20+ bedrooms will do the trick. 

In those few days, nothing’s more valuable than the conversations in the kitchen, on the couch, and the walks around the block that bring everyone together. 

I kid you not, a pipeline conversation between sales and recruitment in the hot tub reaped gold!

2/ Set your ground rules

The kickoff for the offsite was simple: joint agreements on the shared expectations for what we would achieve be the end of it. 

My first agreement was to make time for the conversations not related to our business. Childbirth, thinking about engagements, book clubs, zodiac signs, etc. 

Our other agreements: show up consciously present. Include our remote team members. And of course, have fun!

3/ Orchestrate connections for teams who don't work closely together 

We took a pen when we were planning the offsite and charted partners for different activities. Extremely intentional.

One of the sessions was to place goal-oriented “bets” with each other. In pairs, people shared their 2026 goals; through guided conversation starters, partners turned these goals into achievable bets over the course of 3 days. 

My team’s fitness goals even led to a new tradition of starting each day with 25 squats! 

4/ Don’t eat out

For dinner, we cooked and ate as a group. 

Two team members were assigned a dish, and they cooked up their favorite dishes: cheesy potatoes, pollo guisado, beef tacos, and more. 

It’s teamwork at all times- cooking, cleaning, and sharing space as a group. Creates bonds beyond work. 

Letting people from different teams shine together energizes all of our work.

We plan to double our scale in 2026. Why?

Last week, my HRV dropped lower than the last time I was truly burnt out.

I don’t feel burnt out… but I’m taking it just as seriously.

Q1 is never easy: reflecting, planning your quarter, planning your year… 

And somewhere in the middle, I’ve also been onboarding a new leader on a tight timeline to fold them into quarterly planning. 

The weirdest part? Mentally, I’m energized, I’m clear- and I’ve never been more excited about GrowthAssistant’s direction.

But the health stats tell you the exact opposite: identical to me when I’m at my most burnt out. 

I’m running on positive stress, but physically, it’s identical to the kind of stress that runs me to the ground.

It’s why I did something totally out of character: turned everything off, went completely off the grid, and did these 3 things (that every CEO needs to learn for Q1):

1. Asked myself: At age 80, would it matter?

If it’s a yes, take the time to solve it. If it’s a no (most “fires” are) put the problem in context and leave that dirty dish in the sink for later.

1. Reminded myself: turning off is temporary 

The world won’t fall apart in when your phone’s off. What feels urgent today, will be there when you get back (and you’ll probably handle it better without stress in your body). 

1. Plan your debrief before you leave

Don’t “promise to catch up” when you’re back. Schedule exactly when you’ll be back online, and when conversations will continue. 

That’s why I’m confident I can take a week to hide in the mountains, ski, and leave my phone off (ski lifts are not phone-friendly 😉). 

The other reason I’m confident?

We wasted HALF our marketing budget optimizing the wrong number. Here’s how we’re fixing it…

For a while now, I’ve been celebrating wins: 

✅ More meetings booked 

✅ Sales rep calendars packed

Until I checked conversion rate… lower than I expected. 

I asked my sales lead, she said the quiet part out loud:

Calls ≠ Customers.

We were building a funnel for leads that wouldn’t grow with us. Nurturing, strict qualifying, and many more things were missing. 

Here’s how we are fixing it by switching our target metric, and our strategy: 

1/ Sales + Marketing = Growth team

A lean team like ours is too small for information to get siloed in departments. 

We’re aligning these teams to take full ownership of the customer journey and its growth. 

It’s not just putting time on the calendar every week: they’re aligning on a definition of qualified, a list of disqualifiers, and one shared scorecard. 

2/ Comprehensive customer journey

Teams that only know their part of the journey are optimizing for a fictional customer. 

Marketing knows what gets awareness, sales knows what gets objections, client services knows what gets churn. 

But those insights are just fragments of the full story.

So, I’m making every sales call available to all teams to create a compounding resource that reveals how leads actually describe their problems, the objections that emerge, and the values and outcomes they’re actually asking about. 

3/ Assign KPIs to OUTCOMES

The growth team’s real issue isn’t effort. It’s where they measure effort. 

So I’m shifting their KPI to the moment that matters: when decision gets made. 

It’s a harder pivot, and I’m still proud of how that team has built up excitement about what we’re doing. 

But, the goal should never be more activity. 

It’s designing and measuring for better signals that create effective conversations. That’s our 2026 step change.

Growth nearly broke my company.


Not because demand wasn’t there. But because of operations.

I was reminded of that this week after speaking with a Head of Growth at a fast-scaling AI startup. 

Here are the 3 perils of growth EVERY company faces (and how to avoid them): 

1️⃣ 🚩 - “We don’t have any process docs.”

Leadership spits out great ideas in meetings but everyone remembers the process differently. 

Your best outcomes need to be repeatable. 

Do this: record key calls and have the operators narrate their steps: what they did, why, and the decision rules. Feed this into a custom GPT designed for SOP drafting, then store them and review. 

2️⃣ 🚩 - “Where is that data?” 

C-suite decides what metrics need to be tracked and pays for dimensional data on customer experience, but gets stuck pulling reports and fixing inflated data. 

My team saw this situation at $11B enterprise client: marketing managers operating like data janitors. 

We suggested zooming into execution. Hand off daily reporting to 2 Growth Assistants who automate daily reporting and ensure data from all 4 sources weren’t inflated. 

3️⃣ 🚩 - “Did that ship?”

VPs champion initiatives as they emerge, but there’s less championing around the operation.

3 days ago, I hired a designer after they bombed a portfolio review, because of these three questions SHE asked ME…

I’ve hired hundreds, and interviewed 12,000+ people.

Even though this portfolio review signaled poor fit- no process explanations, no signs of iteration

The the moment I ask: “Do you have any questions for me?” reversed what I thought.

1️⃣ ”How does AI come into your design workflow?” 

Her take: AI-enabled design is best for the middle of the design process. 

The most effective orgs scale with AI by pinpointing tools optimized for specific assets (i.e Nano Banana for marketing assets w/ text, FLUX.2 for photorealism), then engineering hybrid workflows for text, alignment, etc.

Her expertise on AI-powered iteration was a complete 180 on my perception of how this candidate thought about process- that’s essential for designers who scale. 

2️⃣ “How do you train models for your brand?” 

When her last client’s deadlines got tight, she trained the flow on brand guidelines, assets, and system prompts to develop 15 static creative variations that balanced brand consistency and explorations for new directions. 

She tapped tools like Kling and ByteDance to transform the most successful static creatives into videos for other channels or testing… 

3️⃣ “What’s your plan to creative test with AI tools?” 

The best designers are already imagining ways to make creative testing visuals more efficient.

That’s why I asked her how she recommends doing it… here’s what she told me:

Use your top 5% highest performing campaigns as compositional prompts in aggregator AI tools, then prompt models to iterate 7-10 new visuals based on what’s converting. Then A/B test as you would for any other campaign, testing your target metrics after 3-5 days. 

That’s already saved our team 5+ hrs/week on creative testing, and compounding our most successful campaigns.

After a year of dead ends, we JUST massively grew with a $10B client.

Here’s what it taught me about growing with clients: 

1/ Book the flight

Our Account Manager didn’t ask them if she was good to visit… 

Instead, she booked a flight, mentioned others local partners we were meeting, and asked if they were available too. 

The goal isn’t just relationship building. It was to meet with the adjacent teams and build our internal network within our partner’s team. 

2/ Don’t come empty handed

Alexis prepped gratitude gifts: headphones for contacts she speaks to weekly. 

On each of the headphones was a QR code, linked to a personalized hype track about the collaboration between Growth Assistants and their team. 

It was amazing to see the reactions from the human connections she helped create. 

Several of the client’s team told her it was one of the most memorable gifts they received. 

3/ Put time on their whole team’s calendar

Alexis hosted an ice cream cart pop-up to connect casually with anyone who had time. 

By sheer timing and luck, the ice cream social overlapped with the client’s design team bonding, which quietly connected Alexis to a new pocket of stakeholders. 

One casual conversation later, the first expansion was secured… without even a sales pitch.

4/ Evaluate connections systematically

This sales rep uses a partnership success matrix that scores every logo from 1 to 5:

1s are clients that view us like a contract - they don’t need “more service” they need visible outcomes and more alignment to build trust. 

5s are clients who see us as a trusted partner - they’re already sold, but need strategic support and constant value. Going on-site was the easiest way to fast-track a 5. 

Everything else in the middle is your expansion pipeline.

That’s how we optimize for experience. Because a client that feels supported by us is a client that grows.

My team spent $97K on an AI Accelerator that went viral on LinkedIn. But we missed one key step that cost us 2x that amount in revenue: 

Managing the funnel. 

We hired a marketer who’d run a $40M brand with 5 GAs and AI processes nto. 

They ran the accelerator. 

We scanned through 1000+ applications to select ONLY 25 designers with 10+ years of experience in graphic, video, and motion design. 

The result? AI-enabled designers produced 60% more high quality designs, that were more original and broke the barrier to video and audio. 

Then our marketing team posted about it and went viral.

But our funnel was broken at the bottom. Here’s what we’re going to do next time: 

1. Design a lead-gen content delivery experience

We offered a high quality resource for free: a guide for AI creative testing at scale. 

But when people started to request the guide, we didn’t design what happens next.

Next time, we’re asking these questions: 

What’s the content delivery experience?

What exactly are they interested in buying vs our offering?

If the next step is a link, you get attention. Design that to turn into intent? That’s scale. 

2. Estimating the outcome before you ship

Generating awareness is essential to my team’s goal for AI in 2026. 

I want people to know Growth Assistant is a leader in accelerating talent with AI. 

Even better is proof of outcomes. 

Before going viral again, I’m having my team defining success up front: 

- Exact personas we know will convert
- Metrics the funnel should target
- What “qualified” actually means

Combining viral content with target goals creates a growth loop that you can measure and evaluate; and an outcome that compounds. 

3. Go to market early

Excitement only emerged after the fact- but the best hype comes before launch. 

Next time, we’re building demand ahead of the release by leveraging our expertise. 

That’s not just through sharing the journey and lessons on LinkedIn. It’s also by planning partner distribution, new launch sequences, press, etc. 

Now that we have proof, I’m challenging my team to talk about AI *before* we have something to show off.

Of course I’m celebrating the great thing.

I can’t minimize the success. But I want it to compound, which is why I’m always looking to evaluate and strategizing how we grow with AI.

My newest sales rep just closed a BILLION-dollar logo. But she made one mistake that fumbled the expansion:

She was too nice.

Here are the questions that I always ask and how they get to strategy quickly:

1. “What’s your market cap?”

Market cap is a shortcut to expected spend.

If your client is a $50B public company with a $xM (research DD) marketing spend, they should have 40 Growth Assistants across marketing verticals.

These things are table-stakes. But EVERY sales rep needs to pay attention to them.

Exactly the size of the business corresponds to the opportunity for growth.

2. “What’s your top line revenue?”

Too many teams don’t ask because they think it will offend a partner…

It’s rare that a partner would be offended by this. 10% of teams will ask you back ‘why?!'

Be prepared to give them your good reason: that you genuinely care about their growth.

It’s to show you’re ready to work on their team.

3. “Who else are you working with right now?”

This is another uncomfortable question that pays off.

Just recently, my sales rep asked this question and heard that they were in the middle of a pitch for a new partnership.

She tapped our network, put in a good word, and weeks later heard back: they got the deal.

When clients win, we win. Exactly how I like to grow with clients.

Asking about AI has become one of my most efficient filters when interviewing new candidates. 

I’ve interviewed 12,000 people, but within the past 2 years, I’ve leaned more and more on these questions to tell me more about candidates than asking about their “favorite project” ever has…

Here’s the cheatsheet:

1/ How would you rank yourself 1-10 on AI? 

I don’t care what number they give because most people will say 5-6. 

What I really care about is the follow-up question: “Tell my why you give yourself that score.” 

Here’s what one candidate told me recently: 

“I say 6 because I have the applicational experience using AI, and not just ChatGPT, but creating custom GPTs for marketing and research purposes; but I also have the understanding of the LLMs are built, curated, and operated. I don’t like to ride the bike without knowing how the pedals work.” 

That reveals to me they have a holistic understanding of not only what AI unlocks, but how it’s unlocking that. 

I want to get to the bottom of how they learn about AI, and what’s specialized about them.

2/ “What would get you to an 8?”

AI is still in an early enough stage that anyone can learn. 

Agency is the differentiator

The people who will learn FAST have a few things in common:

→ They know the next 3 things they want to explore

→ They understand why: for example learning to fine-tune LLMs to create content or vibe code to make external dashboards

→ They have a way of staying up to speed on the newest stuff

3/ “How would you effectively learn these things?” 

A good answer has a few components:

→ Expression of their current competency and limits thereof 

→ An answer for how they will fix a skill gap 

→ Evidence of having expanded their circle of competence before

I want a team built around teaching each other about AI, one that’s dedicated to constantly learning. 

Models are writing at 12,000 words a minute. Anyone learning slowly isn’t learning. 

The teams pulling ahead are moving quick. And it compounds.
