you can:

take part in the circlejerking of how bad linkedin allegedly is, how much organic reach apparently suck, and how the good old times were much better and more fruitful

or you can:

snap out of that and bring yourself back to the present and make do with what you have right here and right now, irrespective of whether some other time that no longer exists was better or worse, and then focus on the work in front of you

the most underrated most overlooked metrics on linkedin

i’ve seen posts get more saves than likes. and personally i’d take that any day of the week

when you save a post or send it to someone that signals resonance on a whole other level than a like or a comment

and therefore my fav two-step prompt on the shield agent is this:

1. fetch my top 100 posts last six months
2. show me top 10 most saved and what they have in common - timing, topic, structure, style, etc.

we took a close look at virality versus baseline reach across 50,000 posts spanning 13 follower brackets from 0–500 followers to 1M+

as i said, some account sizes play the lottery. most posts net nothing. a few take home everything. some brackets are stable like that while others move month over month.

we tracked ~50,000 linkedin posts in january and measured the breakout multiple across every follower bracket. the full data cut drops this week in the Index.

some brackets are playing the lottery while others barely move.

either people learn, earn or grow from it. that’s something worth saving and sharing.

2. share something often

keep showing up and follow step one. people will hit like, follow, subscribe, save, send.

3. share ways to buy from you

free builds trust, paid builds a business. if there’s no way to buy, people won’t, duh.

that’s the recipe. you can complicate it however much you want but the fundamentals won’t change.

Success isn’t always a straight upward climb.  

Sometimes, real success looks like stability — holding your ground while everything around you is shifting.

As I, Great Opomu, often tell entrepreneurs: don’t rush past the level you haven’t mastered. If your business can stay profitable and steady through inflation, market pressure, and personal burnout, you are doing something right.

Sustainability is the real power move. It means you’ve built a system that works, not just a hustle that depends on luck. That’s how you master time and chance.

Slow down when needed. Strengthen your foundation. Build deep before you build high.

What tough season has your business survived recently?

I’m stepping back from recommending beehiiv — and this isn’t a hate post.

Beehiiv is still powerful. Great UX. Strong creator momentum. Solid vision.

But tools aren’t judged only during smooth seasons. 
They’re judged when things break. 

And for the past five weeks, things have broken in ways creators can’t ignore.

The issues I’ve seen across client and partner accounts:

1) Open tracking stopped working

For five weeks, Beehiiv has no longer recorded email opens. When creators can’t see who opened emails, every content and engagement decision becomes guesswork.

2) Links inside emails returning errors

Subscribers clicking links encounter DNS or HTTP errors. I have client emails proving this. Engagement drops, trust drops, reputation takes a hit.
Support silence.

Free users are routed to AI responses and screenshot submissions. Not real support. Meanwhile, the CEO publicly criticized Cal’s “bad support response” even as they are paid users (Truly Cal didn't do well at all). 

Free users deserve at least acknowledgment and guidance. In this area too, Beehiiv hasn't done well too.

Free users aren’t spectators. They’re early believers, future revenue, ecosystem builders. Platforms must show up when creators need clarity, even if a reply takes days.

Creators shouldn’t build businesses entirely inside a platform. 
Your audience, data, and content strategy must live beyond infrastructure.

And this is where I’ve been leaning more toward Kit as a practical alternative, especially for creators running websites on WordPress.

Why?
Because it supports a native workflow where:
- WordPress forms (e.g. Elementor) collect richer subscriber data
- Emails flow into Kit automatically (via Kit's API feature in Elementor)
- Creators retain extended subscriber context on their own website
That’s not just email marketing.
That’s audience ownership.

For WordPress, Beehiiv only supports their form embed which doesn't work in some regions because of constant Cloudflare "Are you a robot?" tests.

And for creators who don’t want their newsletter experience shaped by the social-network direction seen with Substack, infrastructure-first tools feel more aligned.

This post isn’t about tearing down a platform.

It’s about speaking up when creators feel unheard during technical disruptions.

Platforms grow because creators trust them.
Creators grow because audiences trust them.

When bugs happen and voices feel unheard, that trust gets tested.

And sometimes the most responsible thing you can do for your clients and your own audience is reassess your recommendations publicly and honestly.

Beehiiv can absolutely fix these issues.
And I hope they do.

But until then, the reminder stands:

Don’t build your audience inside a platform.
Build your audience with a platform.

Strategy Isn't for Show: Why I Don't Publish My Clients' Work

Last year, I was deeply committed to sharing my WordPress knowledge and even started a newsletter to make that consistent. To everyone who subscribed and suddenly stopped hearing from me, I sincerely apologize.

The pause wasn’t intentional.

Over time, my involvement in multiple ventures as a strategist grew rapidly, demanding more of my time and attention. I found myself spending more energy helping organizations think, plan, and position for growth than staying hands-on with technical execution.

The passion hasn’t gone.

I still strongly believe in the ideology behind my #WPforOps manifesto, the idea that WordPress is more than a website builder but a foundation for running business operations digitally. For context, WordPress remains the world’s most widely used platform for building websites and at WPFlat, it continues to be the core foundation we use to build platforms for our clients.

What has changed is my level of practical involvement.

My agency is still active and open to website projects. I work with an amazing team who are more than capable of delivering excellent work. But I now work more in strategy, ensuring every platform we build aligns with business objectives, not just aesthetics. Personally, I no longer have the bandwidth to stay deeply immersed in technical execution the way I once did.

There’s a simple lesson in all of this.

You can start something meaningful and still evolve away from the original form of it, not because you lack commitment, but because growth introduces responsibilities that align more with who you’re becoming.

For me, WordPress opened the door to strategy. Building websites led to deeper conversations around market research, business models, and growth planning. Over time, strategy became the work people consistently sought from me, and my experience building ventures has reinforced how critical that layer is.

So this is simply an update.

I still believe in the ecosystem that shaped a large part of my journey. I’m still connected to it. But my primary focus now is helping ventures grow, scale, and make better strategic decisions while supporting the technical work from a strategic vantage point.

If there’s one takeaway, it’s this: evolution doesn’t cancel your past work. It often validates it and shows you where your highest contribution truly lies.

Hard work pays off but not always immediately in cash.

In my experience, I’ve learned that it’s easy to avoid low-budget or demanding clients. Yet these experiences often provide some of the most valuable lessons. If you’re entering a new industry or building your reputation, these opportunities can become powerful training grounds.

Tight budgets and unique client expectations push you to think creatively, refine your process, and sharpen your skills. Over time, the expertise you develop in these moments is exactly what high-value clients are willing to pay for.

Don’t overlook the small beginnings. Use them to master your craft.
