My husband had a heart attack and died in December. Today I got a $6000 hospital bill. 


He went into cardiac arrest at home and wasn’t able to be revived by paramedics.  Upon arrival at the hospital they spent about 20 minutes before they stopped treatments. 

20 minutes and $6000. This doesn’t even include the ambulance bill we haven’t received yet.

Joe had good insurance which will pay some of this, but the fact that this is what gets charged is disgusting.

He is now a list of codes and bills to insurance companies. 

I’ve spent my career in healthcare tech and I hope to find a way to make a bigger difference 

AI won’t solve this, because any savings in admin costs will never be passed down to patients. Let’s be real. 

Providers do more with less and don’t get paid enough. 

Patients go into debt just to live. 

Healthcare is so very broken and while I don’t have answers, as a high utilizer for my husband and my diabetic son, I have a voice. 

Patients deserve better. And so do their families

But it’s not about that, we need to demand better and reforms!!!!

The answer to finding a job after a layoff is NOT start your own business 

And Stop working for someone else

And Stop making someone else’s dream grow

For some it is…. Absolutely 

And people should take risks where they can and challenge themselves 

But for some it’s not an option.

I am now a solo mom, not by choice by circumstance. 

If I am laid off tomorrow I cannot just give up benefits and a steady paycheck to work for myself 

I don’t have the financial means to survive without a salary 

And I don’t have the same 24 hours in a day that others do because I have kids who rely on me and only me now.

I don’t feel badly for myself. I don’t make excuses.  I live in reality 

So if someone does a vulnerable open to work post with specific jobs they are looking for…

Offer to help them 

Offer connections 

Offer an ear or a strategy 

Don’t offer your opinions on the only way to be successful when it’s not a one size fits all situation

December 2025 my husband died of a heart attack. 

October 2023 my dad died of Glioblastoma 

June 2015 my son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 

April 2012 my son was diagnosed with celiac

July 2012 my husband found out he had spinal stenosis after years of back issues 

April 2011 my mom died of lung cancer 

April 2011 I had my 2nd miscarriage 

Not to mention many health issues my husband had including numerous surgeries 

I’ve spent my entire career in healthcare tech and healthcare 

Healthcare is personal to me. I’ve seen the effects of good and bad care, insurance and systems and tools.

I didn’t choose a career in healthcare, it just happened. 

But just a quick look at this list shows why I’ve stayed. 

Sometimes passion for industries isn’t a decision but a result of life experience.

Today is random act of kindness day.  I would like to buy birthday gifts for two kids whose parents have been laid off. 

I received an Amazon gift card from a survey I did and while I could always use things for my kids, the world is so heavy right now and I’d like to gift it to others. 

My husband LOVED giving gifts.. so think of it as carrying on his legacy.

I have been debating if posting on LinkedIn is worth it anymore. 

I have posted on LinkedIn every single day since April of 2020 except when my husband died in December I took a break. 

I comment daily because I want to, not because I have to. 

I’ve seen the intro of the green banner.  The people who love and hate it.

I’ve seen AI comments be introduced, and contributions to AI articles that have weird badges given. 

I’ve gotten two jobs and 5 job offers as a result of my posts on LinkedIn. 

I’ve raised $6500 for holiday presents for kids whose parents have been laid off with the help of this amazing community.

I’ve started a coaching business for career and life coaching and thus far have had 10 amazing clients and re-launching soon. 

I have given away over 30 coffees, 100+ hours of free coaching, and contributed over $1000 of my own money to help people 

And in return LinkedIn has been a place for me to grow, learn, connect, network and share my passion for writing and building a community. 

But like anything in life there comes a time when you wonder if the efforts are worth the output and if you can use your (for me even more limited) time now in other ways.

This isn’t a goodbye post - as I’ve always said LinkedIn isn’t an airport you don’t need to announce your arrivals and departures 

But it is me talking out loud wondering what other platforms people use to connect, build and share thoughts.

My purpose on LinkedIn has always been numerous - to help, to share my own life experiences at work and life, to support working moms and to cheer on good humans.

Those goals don’t change, but maybe the platform does - on or offline.

What are your thoughts?

8 weeks ago my husband died suddenly leaving me as the solo parent to our two boys.

I miss him every second of every day. 

I don’t want to do it all alone, but I have been given no other choice. 

And that’s just it…  we don’t always get to make the choice, choose our path, decide the twists and turns in life…

But we DO get to decide how we show up, deal with things, rise up, and be kind to ourselves and others. 

Life without Joe will never be the same for my boys and I.  But life keeps going… whether we want it to pause or not. 

So how we show up matters, and how we make the time we have count matters!!!! 

Do your best every day..  but take time to reflect on the good, too. And the bad. 

But more so the good. 

It’s out there. Even in the darkest times.

My hope for every person going through job or life struggles right now is that you can find the slivers of light.

And be the light for others if you can

Also… re-launching my coaching again in March. Because one of the last things Joe said to me was how proud he was of the difference I make for others… and I can still do that 💕

I am newly widowed, now a solo mom and the best hire you’ll ever make.



When my husband died suddenly in December I started thinking about the future. First and foremost was the future I was robbed of with him. 

The future my kids were robbed of with their dad who won’t see them go to prom, graduate HS and get married 

That will forever break my heart. 

 But I started thinking about my professional future, too. 

Sure I am 49, but that’s only old if you let it be. I will be working at least another 20 years. 

 I am happily employed now… 

But…

I am the best hire anyone ever makes if I end up on the job market again.

Why? 

Because my why has never been stronger. I have two amazing boys who count only on me now for their safety and security. 

Joe told me just days before he died that I should do more with my life and pursue my goals  (he was referring to coaching but it applies to all). 

I halted plans in the past because of family health issues and tragedy. Family will always be first, but as my kids get older dynamics change. 

I have resilience, grit, determination and the legacy of my husband to carry on that you’ll never see on any resume.

That can’t be taught. 

Along with my skills, years of experience AND desire to learn more - it’s not something you get in a job application.

I am your hype woman, the kind of leader who gets it, who can motivate teams, improve operational efficiencies, and build culture for success. I’ve done it before. 

Because my life of tragedy AND triumph shows I never give up. 

Sure, I have more restrictions now. Remote only, as I have been for 20 years now, is the easiest for our family. 

Travel is more problematic now, with kids who have no childcare, a dog who doesn’t like others, and anxieties about leaving which are understandable 

But in life it sometimes takes a mindset shift to realize those can be overcome. 

I can travel, I can go into an office just not often or maybe not now.

Tragedy and hard times will break our hearts forever but also make us stronger and more determined to forge ahead.

It has for me. For Joe’s legacy. For my kids future. 

My life, my tragedies, my experience and skills make me the best hire you’ll ever make.

So if I get to a point that I need to (or forced to) look for a new job someday, I will bring all of me and my life experiences - something that will benefit any company.

Something that benefits me in my current job, too.

It all starts with us believing it and then showing the world. 

Let the hard times motivate you to keep running, not knock you out of the race.

My coaching client called me today to say she got offered her dream job at 25% more pay!!! 

This isn’t common these days. 

This isn’t the norm. 

These aren’t results I guarantee or promise any clients I work with.

But they ARE possible.  And that’s what I hope those who are going through rough patches in life and job realize. 

Hope isn’t a job search strategy or a way to manifest a better life..

But it sure is part of strategy to keep you motivated and believing in yourself 

Be a good human

If you’re a CEO you SHOULDN’T expect your employees to be working as much as you.  

Period. 



The CEO at a former company I worked at, used to tell me he was frustrated no one worked as hard as him. 

He complained that he worked every weekend (and he sent us all emails all weekend too).

He worked late at night (and called often when I was at 8pm baseball games, in mom mode).

He talked about how he started work at 5am every day (and often made his leaders get on calls at 6:30am).

He couldn’t understand why “these younger generations” didn’t have the same work ethic.

What he failed to realize is “younger people” aren’t lazy. 

They aren’t less dedicated. 

They aren’t different than any generation before them. 

They simply know what’s important to them, as every generation does. 

He is the leader of the company and likely makes far more money than anyone else. 

You can’t expect someone in an entry level role to have the same responsibilities and work hours as someone making 350k+.

We all should take personal pride in our work 

We should give it our best, whatever that is day to day. 

We should work hard, there’s no substitution for it 

But how you choose to work as an executive should NOT be how you expect your team to work. 

Hustle away, just don’t create hustle culture for others. 

Be a good human. Lead well.

Be honest and realistic about your job search. 

I’m open to doing anything isn’t going to work in this job market. 

It may be true. You may be a jill of all trades. You may be interested in doing anything and everything. 

But there are thousands of ridiculously qualified people looking for roles right now.

Companies can be picky and they can be resolute in what they want. 

So you need to be, too.

It’s scary to narrow and niche down too much.  I was afraid I would miss out on opportunties. 

But the truth is, you have skills and jobs you’ve done. You have a skill set for a specific group of jobs 

That’s where the focus should be. 

And in time you can grow that as the job market changes and seek out new roles.

I’ll do anything isn’t the answer. 🤷‍♀️

Strong personal statement. Confidence. And skills to back it up

It doesn’t take much to recognize employees

It doesn’t take long for a manager to as thank you 

I see you 

I know the work you’re doing 

Not during a formal review, or yearly talks 

But every day, every week. 

Yes, most of us would like to have more money, bonuses, raises 

But big promotions and raises aren’t always possible 

But acknowledgment, recognition, a thank you costs nothing. 

In a world where people are holding on to jobs tightly and worried if they’re next 

A simple good job can motivate people more than you know 

Sad that corporate America just doesn’t see this
