At 1 am, I was on a video call. 
I didn’t think this would happen after Big Law.

Except this time, I was excited to join at this odd hour (no offense to Big Law).

Anna Guo, Elgar Weijtmans, and I were spread across three time zones, strategizing the launch of what I genuinely believe will be one of the most important projects to happen legal industry this year.

I met Anna through LinkedIn over a year ago. Since then, we’ve been in each other’s corner, cheering on each other’s work, sharing honest feedback on strategy, and occasionally jumping on late-night Google Meets to catch up.

Back in January, she shared what she’d been building.

Legal AI Evaluation Framework: the first open framework designed to help legal teams evaluate AI tools in a structured, practical way.

When she asked if I’d be interested in leading marketing and communications for the launch, I didn’t hesitate.

I said “**** yes!”

What we’ve mobilized in the last 5 weeks is honestly incredible.

More than 100 legal professionals across 25 countries have stepped forward to help shape this project.

Many have already shared the Legal Benchmark badges announcing their involvement and personalized the LinkedIn posts we helped draft to explain why this project matters to them.

I can’t remember the last time I felt this kind of positive momentum building around something in the legal industry.

A historic NY blizzard didn’t get in the way.

I was scheduled to speak live at Fordham University School of Law on practical LinkedIn strategies to law students to land their next roles.

But the weather had other plans.

So we pivoted to virtual. And we made it happen!

During one of my webinar presentations with over 80 people in attendance, something went terribly wrong. 

Zoom started acting up in the middle of the session. Attendees got dropped from the call and I wrapped up the webinar feeling terrible. 

A few hours later, Bhakti Shivarekar, Assistant General Counsel at HPE, messaged me.

She sent me an article showing there had actually been a Zoom outage and told me it wasn’t my fault.

She said the session was still phenomenal, and that the fact I pulled it off despite the outage actually worked to my advantage.

That moment meant so much to me. 

Bhakti has been one of my biggest advocates since I started showing up on LinkedIn. Whenever there’s been an opportunity for me to share LinkedIn tips with a bar association or legal organization, she’s recommended my name in those rooms without me asking. 

In that same conversation after the presentation, she told me something that has stuck with me ever since:

“Sunny, your authenticity is your superpower.”

Being authentic, especially on a public platform like this, can feel vulnerable. But I try to remember Bhakti's words when I start doubting myself.

Meeting people like Bhakti through this platform reminds me why LinkedIn, at its core, is actually great.

Because at the end of the day, it’s helped me meet thoughtful, generous people who genuinely support others.

Bhakti is one of those people. And I’m really grateful to have met her.
