Deciding to skip business school to start a gym in 2013 changed my life forever. 

Here’s what happened next: 

2013: Launched United Fitness in Huntington Beach, CA, and grew to 6 locations

2016: Founded Gym Launch and switched from privately owning gyms to doing in-person turnarounds

2017: We transitioned from in-person turnarounds to a licensing business and helped over 4500+ facilities transform their businesses.

2019: Our supplement company, Prestige Labs, launched to help those gyms create another profit center and provide their customers with high-quality nutritional products.

2020: Started ALAN, a software company that helps brick-and-mortar businesses get twice as many people in the door on average for one-third the price of a front desk admin.

2020: Founded Acquisition.com, to invest in and help grow companies. Made our first 3 investments.

2021: We sold our majority shares of ALAN to a strategic partner and a 66% stake in Gym Launch and Prestige Labs to American Pacific Group.

It’s been a ride.

If you can be in a bad mood for no reason... 


You might as well be in a good mood for no reason. 


Being easy to work with and being in a good mood is such an underrated skill that employees/managers/leaders don't think about enough.

You don't need a mentor.
What you need instead is to:


1. Fire yourself up.
2. Create your own deadlines.
3. Hold yourself accountable.
4. Do more than anyone asked you to make yourself proud.
5. If you're waiting for someone to believe in you, start with yourself.

People underestimate how much brute force you have to use to will your goals into existence.

Reality and perspective check.

You don't need millions of views. You need the right views aka the right customers.

Everything that was once hard.
With enough repetition.
Becomes boring.

You feel behind because you’re in a rush. 
You’re in a rush because you feel behind. 
You feel behind because you're in a different season than the people you're comparing yourself to. 

You're not behind. 
You're just early.
You're on your own timeline.

Beating 99% of people is simple but not easy.



1. Show up early. 
2. Prepare the day before. 
3. Remember everyone's name. 
4. Say no to opportunities that don't bring value. 
5. Follow up quickly. 
6. Follow up multiple times. 
7. Deliver value at every interaction. 
8. Never make the same mistake twice. 



It's all about doing the basics at scale consistently that makes you advanced. There is no magic potion.

Hard times don't last forever.
There are only three outcomes.


1. You quit
2. It gets easier
3. You get better


But no matter what, they end. Life is just hard, sometimes. 


You have tough seasons. Bad losses. 


And what makes it harder is you don’t know when it’ll end.


But know - it will end.

The difference between $100,000 a day vs $100,000 a year. 
It is simpler than you think. 

People who make six figures a day are willing to: 

1. Look stupid no matter what anyone else thinks. 
2. Take risks that not many are willing to take. 
3. Outreach and ask an unlimited amount of people to get what they want. 

I'm convinced that the first principle of building wealth is disregarding the opinions of others who don't have "it" but telling you that you're doing it wrong. The difference is simple, not easy.

Richer people won't judge you for saving your money.
Fitter people won't judge you for cutting your calories. 
Higher-status people won't judge you for being obsessed over your goals. 

It's the people who are going nowhere who have the most to say because they have nothing to do. Never let unaccomplished people, judge your accomplishments.

People fail because they want a dream girl without going on 100 bad dates. 


People fail because they want a dream customer without 100 bad leads. 


People fail because they want a dream body without 100 bad workouts. 


If necessity is the mother of invention, repetition is the father of results.

Anyone can get rich…


As long as you’re willing to make no money for a long period of time while you work to get good enough to get rich fast.

There is only one thing in life that is 100x worse than your enemies. 


By far, bad friends are 100x more dangerous than enemies. Not even close. 


It's better to be alone than to be around people who secretly hope you fail.

Decisions that can change your life:



1. Sticking to anything daily for an entire year
2. Moving cities
3. Upgrading romantic partners
4. Eliminating drinking & drugs
5. Saying no to *shiny objects*
6. Going to bed at 9pm daily



If you don't like where you're at, try one.
Life can change fast. Change is scary. But so is regret.
The life you live depends on the one you fear more.

One year from now you won't remember:  



Who got the fanciest car. 
How good your junk food was. 
Who won the football game. 
What you talked about at the club. 

But you will remember what it was like to not hit your goals... again.

The fastest way to become successful: 



Associate with people more successful than you. This results in some of the fastest learning and behavior change you can experience.

The problem is... they will not want anything to do with you. So you have to find ONE thing you're more successful than them at, and give that thing freely. Not at cost. Not tit for tat. Freely. Without expectation. 

It's an unspoken code of people who are "higher up" - they're almost all givers. The easiest way to see someone who is "out of place" is to spot the taker. Spot the person always angling. 

Anyways once you do actually provide value (help them do something good they couldn't do before or help them avoid something bad they used to have to deal with, or get the same outcome they're used to faster or cheaper)... they'll let you hang around. 

Then you learn as much as you possibly can and try and be the best in that group at. When that happens they'll see you as a leader. You won't even have to say it. The power dynamics will just shift.

Talked with a gentleman the other day. 96 years old. #1 Rotarian in his state 3 years running. Still works full-time selling insurance. He’s got heart disease, cancer, bad knees. Daughter says, “Dad, you’ve got to slow down or you’re going to die!” He says, “I've got to keep going or I’m going to die!” 

So far, he’s right. 
Doesn’t it make you wonder…

7 ways to lose 1 pound this week: 

1. Walk additional 7000 steps/day
2. Skip dessert every day for the next week
3. Don’t eat for 1 whole day (ask your doctor)
4. Don’t drink anything for 1 whole day (not recommended!)
5. Replace Coke with Olipop
6. Replace 2 beers after work with a walk
7. Turn every “touchpoint” into a walking meeting

Sleep 8 hours/night. 

But why, then, are there nights when you sleep for 5 hours and feel great?
Or others when you sleep for 9 hours and feel like you got hit by a train?

Drink 3 Liters of water/day. 

But what if you’re not thirsty?
Why would you drink water if you’re not thirsty?
If you’re eating a whole foods diet, do you need to drink the same amount of water as if you were eating a diet full of processed foods?

Eat 2,000 calories per day. 

What if you’re a super athlete?
What if you have a sedentary job?
Spent the day traveling?
What foods should make up these 2,000 calories anyway?

Who makes these rules?
Are they working?

Talked to a CEO + founder client this afternoon. He called to say thanks. His people are losing weight, more productive, happier, less stressed. 

I reminded him that he’s the one who connected his people with their health guy. And he’s good at picking high-potential people. 

His sales guy was expecting to have a down quarter (“Q4 is always slow”). He’s on track to have his second-best month in the 5 years he’s been at the company. What happened?

“I’ve got more energy so I’ve been reaching out to prospects more.”
 
I asked the founder why he invested in this kind of support for his people. What sort of ROI was he hoping to see?

His answer, “Not really worried about ROI. Not everyone has access to this kind of thing and I figured it could help them.”

Can doing the right thing for your people really help your bottom line???

Client texted today to cancel this afternoon’s call. She’s sick, Thanksgiving is coming, the works. 

No sweat. Same day + time next week? 

Yep. 

I went to change the calendar invite immediately. 
Client had already sent a new invitation with updated day and time. 

What if we all operated like this client?
Wouldn’t the world be a better place?

A couple weeks back, a friend sent a piece about his friend who used AI as his health coach. Helped him with some technical stuff like suggesting he ask his doctor about a new medication because the current one was messing up his hormones. Smart.

Another friend told me he wouldn’t hire a health coach because all the information is available online. True. And fine, because he doesn’t need a health coach. 

So, what’s left? Is AI coming for everyone’s job? Are you going to ChatGPT your way to losing 50 pounds? Is knowing what you need to do enough?

Drinking coffee, reading 4,000 Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. There's some stuff in the epilogue about self-help. 

The question, "If telling someone what to do was enough, wouldn't we know it already?" came up. 

Reminded me of a friend who sent a DM a couple weeks ago. Said something like, "I know you charge for this stuff, but maybe you can share a few free tips with a friend? Please? I need to lose weight." 

4,000 weeks. This guy is in his early 30s. 30x52 = 1560 weeks gone, 40% of life is in the rearview. 

Doesn't it make you wonder?

Is another podcast episode, another free tip going to get you from where you are to where you want to be? 
How long has it been this way? 
How long are you going to tolerate it?

-"I'm walking 12,000 steps/day."
-"My clothes aren't so tight anymore!"
-"My girlfriend told me she's proud of the progress I'm making."
