I got asked yesterday by a marketer how to pick the right LinkedIn creators for campaigns and for me, it’s less about numbers and more about connection🫶🏽

A while back, I shared my quick checklist (bio, comments, content quality, visible email). Today, I want to show why it actually works  and what you can learn from it.

Recently, we worked with a creator under 8k followers. On paper, they didn’t look like a “big win” but their content checked every box:

🧚Audience alignment: Their followers were the exact people we wanted to reach. Every post spoke directly to them.
🧚Engaged community: Their comments weren’t just emojis or “great post” there were real conversations happening. People asking questions, sharing experiences, debating ideas.
🧚Value-driven content: Their posts weren’t just noise. Each one taught, inspired, or made someone feel seen.

The result? Engagement and campaign impact far beyond what their follower count would suggest. Small but connected audiences drive real results.

Here’s the key lesson for marketers: stop chasing vanity metrics. Look for creators who:

- Understand their audience
- Build community through conversations
- Consistently deliver value

For creators, the takeaway is simple: clarity, consistency, and community > chasing likes or followers. Focus on real connection and results follow.

In the end, it’s less about size and more about alignment. And if you can master that? You’ll stop worrying about numbers and start seeing real impact.💅🏾

The 5-second audit I do before adding any creator to a campaign

Okay, let me put you on.

Before I add a creator to my shortlist, I do this quick 5-second check.
It sounds tiny, but it tells me almost everything I need to know:

💅🏾Check their pinned post or latest post.
Does it immediately tell you who they speak to and what they talk about?

💅🏾Look at the comments.
Are they having real conversations or just collecting “love this!” and emojis?

💅🏾Scan their bio.
Clear niche? Clear value? Clear way to contact them?

💅🏾Look at their consistency.
You don’t need daily posting - just clarity and rhythm.

💅🏾Check their audience vibe.
Do their followers match who you are trying to reach?

If these five things click, the creator is almost always a good fit.

It’s really just alignment and you’ll see it immediately🫶🏽✨

B2B marketing often sticks to the familiar: partnerships within the same industry, campaigns that check all the boxes but don’t surprise anyone. Safe might feel smart, but safe rarely sparks excitement or gets people talking🌝

Meanwhile, some of the brands really standing out are the ones doing the unexpected - teaming up with people, companies, or even industries you wouldn’t normally think of. 

I saw a post by Eileen recently about how unexpected partnerships are winning and EXACTLYYYY💅🏾

We recently teamed up with a comedian for a brand campaign Creatorbuzz and it went really well - 250k+ impressions and people were genuinely engaging with it 

I’ve been thinking about how more B2B brands could take a page from that playbook. Imagine collaborations that break out of the usual mold, campaigns that feel fun or content that actually surprises and delights the audience.

Even small experiments like these can shift how people perceive your brand - from just another product to something they want to engage with, follow, and talk about.
