Turning 55 and the year is ending…

What does one think about? 

Some days…

I just sit down quietly and reflect.

Life is not always about pushing harder.

Sometimes… you just need to breathe, reset, and let the lights guide you home again.

At 55, I’m learning this…

You don’t need to have everything figured out.

You don’t need to “fix” everything or everyone.

You just need to keep walking… one step at a time.

If you’re feeling stuck, tired, or a bit lost this month…

same bro… same.

But maybe this “in-between” is actually the beginning of your next chapter.

“Lights will guide you home.”

No train the trainer 

No certification program 

But being on stage felt different. 

Never that I expected to share the stage with my mentor. 

Although I had a secret that I kept. 

I did want to learn from him. 
I did want to spend time learning. 
I did want to find out how he did it. 

I wanted to know his story. 

I did it not because I wanted to be like him.

I did it because I saw that I could figure out and resolve my own challenges. 

No, it didn’t happen overnight. 

Let me go back a little and share the story.

What is one goal you have had for many years?

A goal or a dream starts off with a thought
We either dismiss it or we work towards it
There was a time that I saw someone
speaking on stage, I said to myself
Hey, I wanna do that one day
So keep on dreaming
They will come true
Give it your attention
Invest time and effort
It may be a long winding road
Be aware of your surroundings
It’s alright to have detours on the way
We become the sum of all our experiences

It’s easy when it’s easy 

It’s easy during the good times 

Semua orang boleh buat bila benda tu senang. 

Tapi bila situasi jadi susah, barulah kita tahu siapa yang betul-betul ada mastery.

Or at least nak menuju ke arah mastery. 

Mastery ni memerlukan fokus yang dalam. 

Lagi-lagi bila kita mudah terganggu. 

Kau kena ada CCPR (spirit, continuous, consistent, persistent, resilient).

Bukan jadi HHCS (hot hot chicken shit).

Bila lalui journey ni, kita kena jadi macam Pak Izzi kata, mesti CAN-ii.

A continuous and never ending improvement individual. 

Maksudnya, kita sentiasa upgrade diri. 

Upgrade mindset

Hong Leong Bank Berhad

➡️ Credit & Debit Card Usage 

1️⃣ Recorded the highest number of credit card retail spend in the history of Hong Leong Bank. 

2️⃣ Launched multiple key programs within short span of time – two as critical as within 24 hours. My team had always been the go-to-team to get things done effectively. 

3️⃣ Developed attractive, relevant and cost-efficient marketing programmes targeting mass segment to make HLB Credit & Debit Card as the card of first choice among the cardholders and increase HLB market share for retail billings. 

4️⃣ Developed effective communication plan to promote the Credit & Debit Card usage privileges secured by the team via all relevant above-the-line and/or below-the-line communications i.e. press advertisement, radio, online advertising, etc. 

5️⃣ Evaluated P&L impact at programme and portfolio level to deliver maximum return on investment.  

6️⃣ Developed and became custodian of digital strategy roadmap that articulates and prioritises high impact digital initiatives for Hong Leong Credit & Debit Card. 

7️⃣ Led cross-functional teams consisting of IT, operations, business analysis, customer experience/service and stakeholders from different business units (implementation of digital strategies).  

➡️ Remittance 

1️⃣ Managed the remittance unit starting in 2011 and had increased its revenue by 515.57%. 

2️⃣ Spearheaded the retail remittance business including Foreign TT & maids/workers’ remittance, student forex, SMEs business forex, currency notes exchange, foreign currency accounts/multi-currency accounts. 

3️⃣ Identified reputable and reliable partners to support and connect to the relevant payment corridors (Philippines, India, China etc) to quickly expand HLB’s reach and accessibility for workers’ remittance. 

4️⃣ Ensured proper control and compliance of the business & processes; work with IT on systems, risk on compliance and Branch Operations Support/Digital Team on process and channels.

Head, Card Usage & Remittance

1️⃣ Strong believer in understanding customers’ need in depth, hence initiated the activity to visit Top Remitters as a means to display bank’s appreciation and also to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the products/services. Received positive support and feedback from the remitters as it’s the first of its kind visit done by any of the banks in Malaysia. 

2️⃣ Spearheaded the retail remittance business including foreign remittance & maids/workers’ remittance, student Forex, SMEs business Forex & currency notes exchange. 

3️⃣ Led and motivated the team in Head Office and ground staff to grow remittance and Forex across key channels to accelerate non interest income. 

4️⃣ Managed business profitability and expanded network in strategic locations. 

5️⃣ Identified reputable and reliable partners to support and connect to the relevant payment corridors. 

6️⃣ Ensured proper control and compliance of the business & processes; work with IT on systems, risk on compliance and branch operations on process and channels. 

7️⃣ Developed effective sales & marketing strategies and pricing strategies to exploit Forex business opportunities and accelerate non interest income. 

8️⃣ Leveraged on existing customer relations & networking with the companies to effectively promote regular remittances & Forex.

Head, Retail Remittance & Forex

1️⃣ Pioneered marketing and business development team for Retail Remittance unit. Have taken the opportunity to learn the system, compliance and operational matters. As a product owner, this acquired knowledge has added value during the training session to the distribution channels and to further assist them when they face challenges in selling the products to the consumers. 

2️⃣ Launched SuperRemit with zero CAPEX and shouldered the responsibilities of being the Business and IT Manager due to the constraint in resources. Convinced Group Risk and Compliance to review the bank’s risk appetite as Indonesia was listed as one of the high-risk countries in Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Addressed all the issues and concerns raised by Central Bank and successfully launched the product in 2013. 

3️⃣ Differentiated the product from other providers by engaging customers with innovative campaigns which are directly inclined towards their interest. For instance, introduced ‘IDOLA HLB’ (the first ever initiative for Indonesia remittance products in Malaysia) which has successfully created massive awareness and brand associations with the target group. 

4️⃣ Identified and built innovative marketing strategies and plans to drive the business blueprint and roadmap. 

5️⃣ Led development of new products, worked closely with regulators, vendors, sales and various key cross-functional teams. 

6️⃣ Monitored, analyzed market trends and competitors’ activities. 

7️⃣ Worked closely with appointed vendors, suppliers and agencies during the marketing campaigns and products pre-launch stages. 

8️⃣ Communicated and trained the distribution channels and sales personnel on the newly launched campaigns and products. 

9️⃣ Maintained good relationship and continued to motivate the distribution channels and sales personnel in order to ensure the campaigns and products will be on top of their mind.
