I took a month from posting to really sit with myself and think about what I wanted for 2026. Here’s why….

I spent a lot of the last year in survival mode. 
After a divorce with 3 small kids I was always proving. Pushing. Needing to provide for my family. 

But now I’m on stable ground and yet my nervous system hasn’t caught up. I still feel like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. 

That I need to prove I’m worthy. 
That I need to prove I’m smart. 
That I need to prove why I’m here. 

So this year my word is ENOUGH. 

And I’m going to spend the year learning what enough looks like. 

To be enough. 
To earn enough. 
To do enough. 

I love my new CMO role. 
I have a new exciting writing project this year. 
I’m hosting season 2 of the Girlboss podcast. 
And my weekly newsletter is a constant creative outlet. 

That’s enough.

I’ve been struggling with 2 things lately:

1) it’s clear that when I spend less time on social media, my mind is clearer and I can write from a place of curiosity and purpose. 

But then when I contribute to social media I feel like I’m feeding the beast that is stealing our curiousity and clarity. 

2) The loss of social from the media. 

The closer I got to big creators, the more I found out about the “teams” behind their posts and replies. I can also clearly tell when someone is using AI to reply to posts. 

So what are we actually doing here? 

The point is to connect and inspire. To evoke thoughts and inject nuance into conversations. To drive awareness to things that people may not see from their seat in this world. 

Anyway….if I’ve been a little MIA on here it’s because of these thoughts. 

I deeply crave meaningful conversations and I am trying to find the right medium to having them.

Twenty thousand people. One shot. No warmup.

My son Gabe is a high school senior.

His team, Genoa Christian, is one of the top basketball teams in Ohio. Every year they get to play on the Cleveland Cavaliers’ court. This year, that happened after a 1:00 PM NBA game.

We arrived early and watched warmups.

Two of Gabe’s favorite players were on the floor that day. Donovan Mitchell. Anthony Edwards.

Midway through the first quarter, a text came in.

“Meet me at halftime. Portal 20.”
From his coach.

Gabe and Coach Sam had been selected for the half-court shot.
$10,000.
No warmup.
One shot.

During the second quarter, Gabe leaned over and told me he was nervous.

I told him what we always talk about. Process over outcome. Trust your shot. Let it fly. The odds are tiny anyway.

Halftime came and went. No shot. The third quarter started. We knew it would come during a timeout.

Midway through the third, it did.

The emcee walked out. Five shooters behind him. Gabe. His coach.

The first three weren’t close.

Coach Sam went next. Former D1 player. Still has game. It looked perfect. It grazed the net. Three inches short.

Then Gabe.

A few steps. He let it fly.

From my angle, it had the legs. It hit the glass just left of the rim.

He missed.
But he was the closest.

Afterward, Gabe told me he felt good about it. Even with Anthony Edwards standing ten feet away. He said he really wanted to make it so he could take his team out for steaks.

That’s when I smiled.

You don’t always make the shot. What matters is whether you show up and give your best.

After the NBA game, Gabe’s team took the same floor and won their fourth straight, putting themselves in position to compete for a state title.

It wasn’t his miracle moment. Not that day.

But moments like this stack. And when the time comes, he’ll be ready.

So here’s the question for all of us:

What shot are you holding back from taking and what would happen if you trusted your preparation and let it fly?

I'm in the messy middle right now.

The business is growing. Amazing conversations. Great clients. 

Lots in the hopper.
But to make this sustainable? It's going to take more.

I'm launching a mastermind. Cohort 3.0 of my leadership experience drops next month. Thinking about starting a dinner series (who doesn't like breaking bread and talking leadership?).

I've got fractional sales work. 

More opportunities coming in. And I have a lot of decisions to make.

Scaling with additional coaches and facilitators. Finding the right-fit clients. Saying no to opportunities that don't align. 

Saying yes to the ones that do.

Plus managing family life when my brain is on fire with the excitement of what we're building.

It can be messy.

And I keep saying it's "hard." Michelle calls me out on that, which is good.

So does Nir Eyal : )

After a session he led last week for Level Up Creators, I asked him about the language we use and used this example.

He told me to reframe "hard" into something like:

"This is what it feels like to get better."
Or: "Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional."

That hit me.

Because here's the truth...I've been talking all week about that Eric Teller chart. The red line (world changing) and the green line (our ability to adapt).

And right now? I'm living it.

The business is accelerating (red line). My ability to keep up (green line) requires me to adapt daily.

New systems. New decisions. New mountains to climb.

This is exactly what I teach clients. 

Get clear on identity before tactics. Build systems. Track leading indicators. 

Keep climbing.

But living it? That's different than teaching it. The messy middle is where the real work happens.

It's not the summit. It's not the valley. It's the grind in between where you're building capacity you didn't have before.

And yeah, it's hard.

But maybe Nir's right. Maybe this is just what it feels like to get better.

To close the adaptation gap in real time.

To build something that actually changes lives through this work.

So if you're in the messy middle right now...growing but not sure how to scale, saying yes to too much, brain on fire at night...you're not alone.

Maybe it's not failure. Maybe it's adaptation.

The work is never finished. But that's not exhausting.

It's energizing.

When you reframe "hard" into "this is what growth feels like."

When you remember: pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

When you're in the right rooms with the right people asking the right questions. That's when the messy middle becomes the work you're most proud of.

Elite performance with humanity. 

Systematic excellence with real life happening. Not one or the other.

What does your messy middle look like right now?

This week, I wrapped up a six-month executive coaching engagement and held the final transition call.

Those calls are always enlightening.
And if I’m honest, a little bittersweet.

You get invested in the person. You build trust.

When it’s done right, it becomes a real partnership.

This engagement started with a senior sales leader raising his hand and saying,
“I need to get better at execution.”

He leads the Americas for a global semiconductor business. The part of the business he runs is over a billion dollars.

Sharp. Strategic. Thoughtful.

But execution was the friction point.

Strong ideas were coming to the executive table about 60% baked. Lots of collaboration. Not enough finished thinking.

Over six months of executive coaching, we focused on a few simple but hard shifts:

• Coming in with a clear point of view
• Prioritizing what actually mattered
• Letting go of perfect in favor of progress
• Communicating plans, not just ideas
• Tracking work and showing receipts

The biggest unlock was simple:

You don’t need perfect.
You need clear enough to move.

Imperfect plans beat perfect intentions every time.

What stood out most in our final conversation was his openness. He leaned into feedback. Sat with uncomfortable insights from assessments and 360s.

And changed how he showed up with peers and the leadership team.

This work is messy.
Nonlinear.
Never finished.

But when someone is willing to evolve in real time, the impact compounds fast.

So, here’s my encouragement for you…if you are waiting for something to be perfect before you move, that wait might be the very thing slowing you down.

This week has been brutal in the high-performance world.

Wilfried Nancy, MLS Cup champion head coach in Columbus two years ago, fired after 8 games at Celtic. Kevin Stefanski, two-time NFL Coach of the Year, gone after six years with the Browns. Manchester United's coach. Chelsea's coach. Many more NFL coaches fired this week. The list keeps growing.

But here's the one that really hit me.

My good friend Caleb Porter. Fired from his last two jobs. First in Columbus just two years after winning the 2020 MLS Cup. Then a couple months ago in New England.

I spent two days with him in June at the Revs facility. Deep conversations about systems, philosophy, where they were headed. They were coming off a 9-game unbeaten streak. Everything looked great.

Three months later? Out of a job.

Here's the part that got me. By the end, his family couldn't even attend games. The supporters would chant "Fire Porter" throughout the match.

Think about that. You're giving everything you have. Your family can't come watch you work. And the pressure never stops.

This is why community isn't optional.

Leadership can be a ruthless, thankless business. The pressure to deliver results never stops. 

Can you feel it?

You need the right people. People who'll challenge your thinking. Encourage you when the results aren't coming yet. 

Remind you who you are when everyone else is calling for your head.

Not surface-level connections. Real people who tell you the truth.

Here's my question for you today:

Who's in your corner?

When I left my 25-year corporate gig, people told me "it's a big world out there." They were right. Opportunities everywhere. Landmines everywhere. 

The difference between navigating it well and crashing out often comes down to who's walking beside you.

I'm grateful every day for the people in mine. Including all of you who read these posts and encourage me.

Don't try to do this alone. The best leaders...the ones who survive the ruthless seasons...they've built their corner with intention.

Who's in yours?

Your team is firefighting.

Crisis after crisis. Putting out flames. Moving at breakneck speed.

And somewhere in that chaos, you know this truth:

You can't keep operating in reactive mode forever.

Here's the analogy that's been hitting me lately:

Think of your team as a garden.

Your job as a leader isn't to water faster. It's to plant the right seeds, create the right environment, and give things space to grow.

But when you're firefighting 24/7, the garden becomes a parking lot.

You pave it over with urgency. With reactivity. With "we'll get to development when things slow down."

Except things never slow down.

So, the question becomes: Are you willing to step back long enough to plant?

Because here's what I've learned after 25+ years in high-performance environments:

The teams that win championships don't work harder in the moment. They invest systematically in the unseen hours.

They watch film. They make adjustments. They track leading indicators.

They build development INTO performance, not separate from it.

Your team is either a garden or a parking lot.

Which one are you building?

Every executive I talk to thinks their problem is time.

"Jon, I don't have time to invest in development."

But when I dig deeper, it's not about time. It's about systems.
Championship sports teams don't play harder, they play smarter.

Here's their weekly rhythm that most business leaders miss:

🏈 GAME DAY → Execute at highest level
📊 FILM STUDY → Review what worked and what didn't
🎯 ADJUSTMENTS → Practice with purpose based on the film
💪 PREPARATION → Get ready mentally and strategically
🏈 GAME DAY (HIGHER LEVEL) → Execute better than last week

They build development INTO the rhythm of performance. Not separate from it.

Here's the business translation I'm teaching executives:

Step 1: Establish Your Baseline: Get the data. Know where your team actually is, not where you think they are. 

This is why I'm fired up about the With Intention DNA Assessment. It gives you objective data on your team's wiring, blind spots, and growth edges.

Step 2: Track Leading Indicators: Stop only measuring results. Start measuring the behaviors that drive results.

If you're a 7, we track the behaviors that get you to an 8.
If you're a 4, we track what moves you to a 5.

Step 3: Create Systematic Rhythms: Build development into your existing cadence. Monthly team film sessions. Quarterly growth planning. Weekly behavior tracking.

This isn't rocket science. But it requires stepping back long enough to build the system.

The best sports teams don't firefight. They systematically improve while they perform.

That's the difference between sustaining excellence and burning out trying to maintain it.

A couple years ago, Kevin Jackson reached out.

He runs EXP Journeys, an award-winning adventure travel company.

His problem? He was doing 100+ guide days a year. Leading most of the major expeditions.

He loved the work. But the business was growing faster than his ability to scale.

Something had to change.

Before we even started working together, I had him do a lot of writing and reflection.

What's your actual vision? What identity do you want as a leader? What does success look like when you're not in the trenches every day?

Most coaches skip this part. They jump straight to tactics.

But real coaching is about getting beneath the surface. 

Identity work that actually moves the needle. Not BS productivity hacks. Real stuff that changes lives and trajectories of companies.

I had Kevin write a 10-year vision and put visuals to it. (It's actually in my book, With Intention.) Once he got clarity, we launched Project 40. 

The goal? Reduce his guiding days from 100+ to 40 or under.

We built metrics. Tracked leading indicators. And Kevin did the work daily.

We'd talk every 1-2 weeks. 

Check in. Collaborate. But between calls? He was living into the identity we defined together.

Letting go of control. 

Trusting his team. Building systems instead of doing everything himself.

Here's what happened...Kevin hit 40. Then kept pushing. Last year? 

25 guide days. This year? Aiming for 20.

EXP Journeys won awards from Condé Nast. Received significant PE investment.

And Kevin? He's loving life. 

Thriving business. Thriving family.

That's what happens when you get clear on who you want to become before you figure out what to do.

Most leaders keep doing more. Kevin did less...intentionally, systematically.

And it started with the real work. Not tactics. Identity.

Most New Year's resolutions fail by January 19th.
Two weeks from now. 

Here's why: We focus on WHAT we want to do instead of WHO we want to be.

There's a big difference.

"I want to lose 20 pounds" is a what.
"I'm the person who takes care of my body" is a who.

Back in 2016, I had lunch with James Clear. 

This was two years before Atomic Habits came out. He'd just missed his second book deadline. He was frustrated...wasn't sure he was meant to write a full book.

But he didn't focus on "finish the book."

He focused on "I'm a writer. Writers write." Then he built systems around that identity. Gave his assistant his social media passwords so he wouldn't get distracted. Put his phone in another room until noon. 

Showed up every single day.

25 million copies sold later...you know the rest.

Here's what I take away from that:
If one of the world's experts on habits struggled through the valley, maybe you and I should give ourselves some grace.

Start with WHO, not WHAT.

Pick one identity-based habit this week. Make it so small you can't fail.

"I'm a person who's present" - put your phone away at dinner tonight.
"I'm a person who invests in health" - one 10-minute walk.
"I'm a person who leads with intention" - 5 minutes of reflection before your first meeting.

Stack a win tomorrow. Then another.

Small wins add up to big things when you're consistent.

My word for 2026 is CHOICE.

Most people underestimate the weapons they already have.

They’re looking for something new…

a new plan,
a new tool,
a new burst of motivation.

But the real weapons are quieter.

The ability to stay steady when things don’t go your way.

The discipline to show up even when you don’t feel like it.

The perspective that only comes from being knocked down and getting back up.

The people you can call without pretending you’re fine.

Those don’t show up on a résumé. But they’re the reason you’re still standing.

Before the week runs away from you, take inventory.

You might have more than you think.

"Does this work actually move the needle?" 

That's the question I get asked most in discovery calls. 

And I love it. Because that's exactly the right question. 

The leadership development space has a soft, subjective reputation. Lots of inspiration, not enough transformation. 

I'm on a mission to change that. 

Here's what we track with clients: 

Leading Indicators (Behavior Change): 
- Conflict avoidance → Productive tension conversations 
- Reactive decision-making → Intentional planning rhythms 
- Individual performance → Team capability building 

Business Outcomes (Results): 
- Team retention improvements 
- Engagement score increases 
- Performance consistency 

But here's what matters most: 

We're not just measuring what changed. We're measuring how it changed.

(And yeah, that's my terrible handwriting all over it—I was taking notes during a workshop. Don't judge ; )

This chart explains every conversation I'm having with leaders right now.

Some are frozen. The pace feels so fast they don't even know what to do.
Some are holding onto the old ways. "This is how we've always done it."

Some want to innovate...they really do...but they're not sure where to start.

And yeah, some are just ignoring it.

But here's what I keep coming back to...the gap isn't new. We've always had to adapt as things shift. Always.

What's different now? 

The pace. And the leaders who are making it through this aren't the ones just moving faster. They're the ones building systems to actually close that green line gap.

Not reacting faster. Adapting smarter.

That's what separates teams that drown in change from teams that actually thrive because of it.

And honestly? I don't know what I would do without them.

30 Minute Strategy Call - Jon Giganti

You want to build into your team.

Leaders who are moving at breakneck speed.

Here's the brutal truth: You can't develop people at the speed of business. But you also can't sustain performance without developing people. That's the tension every high performer is living in right now.

The question isn't whether to slow down. 

It's whether you're willing to step back long enough to actually move the needle. Are you building your team or just managing the chaos?

Before we started, one exec asked: "Should we think about this personally or professionally?"

I told him: "Whatever comes to the surface for you."
Here's what happened.

One leader running a multi-billion-dollar business opened up about his kids aging out of the house. How that's hitting him and his wife hard.

Others talked about market shifts. Technology. Team dynamics.

That's what happens when you get the right people in a room and ask good questions.

Now here's what I'm learning about closing that gap:
You can't close it with speed. You close it with systems.

Here's the flywheel that keeps your green line climbing:

1️⃣Know yourself deeply.

Not just strengths. 

Full clarity:

Your superpower (where you're exceptional)
Your strength to develop (where you can grow)
Your weakness (what needs a system)
Your blind spot (what you can't see alone)

2️⃣Build systems, not just skills.

Most companies do keynotes and workshops. Sugar highs. Two weeks later, nobody remembers.

A friend just told me about a speaker who climbed Everest. Amazing story.

We're humans. We forget.

But they never stop adapting.

That's the flywheel.

It's the only way I know to keep your green line climbing while that red line accelerates.

Most leadership development teaches content for an hour. 

Fleeting.

The real work? 

Help people understand themselves, then give them systems to do something about it.

That's what closes the gap.

Thursday, I got real about where I am right now. The messy middle. Growing fast but adapting daily.

Here's what I'm learning:
The gap isn't going away. The world's not slowing down.

But you can build systematic ways to adapt. You can close your green line gap.

Not by moving faster. By building smarter.

And here's the thing...rest is part of this.

Championship teams don't play 365 days a year. They compete. They rest.

They prepare. They compete again at a higher level.

So, this weekend? I'm resting. Integration time.

But Monday? We climb again.

That's the work.

What's one thing you're taking into next week from this?

Too many people are stuck at A.

Not because they don't know where they want to go. 
But because they're trying to figure out how to get from A to Z. 
And when you can't see the path all the way to Z, you freeze.

I see this in every discovery call I'm having right now.

Leaders who know they need to grow. 
Who see the gap. 
Who want to scale.

But they're paralyzed trying to map out every step before they take the first one.

Here's the truth: You don't get from A to Z. 

You get from A to B. 
Then B reveals C. 
Then C reveals D.

The path only appears when you start walking.

Fall of 2023, I went for a walk with James Clear. 
Yeah, the Atomic Habits guy. 
25 million copies sold. 
$250K keynote fees. 

Hard to lock down.
So, I said: "Let's do a walking meeting."

This was a year before I left my corporate job. 
But I knew it was coming. I asked him about his journey.

And he said something that's stuck with me ever since: "Too many people think A to Z. In reality, it should be A→B→Z."

Focus on the next best step. 

Once you take that step, the next one appears. If you get caught up trying to get to Z too soon, you'll never leave A. 

That hit me hard.

Because I was stuck at A. 
Trying to map out Z.
