To all the working women, Gaga said it: 
Stop making being overqualified and under-assertive your identity.

Be collaborative. Don't be too aggressive. Make sure everyone feels comfortable.
Those words are all too familiar to women pursuing their careers.

They’re the reason why even when we have a clear vision for growth or a great idea, or know what needs to change in the workspace, we hesitate.
Because we’ve learnt to expect pushback and to worry about being difficult or disrupting the status quo.

And somewhere in all of that, we lose something so important: the willingness to fight for our ideas.

That’s why when Lady Gaga said to always listen to ourselves, to always fight for our ideas, and to "Make sure that you are heard, loudly," I listened.

Because too often, I’ve seen powerful, brilliant women dim their light, because that’s what we’ve been taught to do.
And I’ve been that woman too.

But I've learned:
👑 Your ideas don't need to be perfect to be worth fighting for.
👑 And they don’t need everyone’s immediate approval to be valid.

It just needs to be rooted in who you are and where you’re going.

So that even when you’re in a room where you’re outnumbered, or even when there’s pushback, you’ll still be able to say “I understand your concerns. And this is still the direction we’re taking.” With confidence.

That’s power.
And you don’t need anyone’s permission to have it.

So if you’ve been shrinking your vision to make others comfortable - stop.

You don’t need consensus to trust your instinct.
Own your vision.
Be heard.

The Eileen Gu interview for me was kind of sad..

Of course not because of her - she’s an incredible athlete and did an amazing job at this year’s Olympics.

It was the fact that she had to deal with that kind of question at all.

“Two silvers gained…
or two golds lost?”

Why is it that for women, so often, our success is framed as loss or compromise? As if choosing growth automatically means something else must shrink.

I’m tired of that narrative. Because honestly, women, especially professionals and owners, we are some of the most capable people I know.

But we live in a world where that capability is just not seen.
Instead, we’re expected to fit into neat boxes
Where you’re either prioritizing your marriage OR prioritizing your career,
You’re either being ambitious OR being likable,
You’re either hiring help OR capable on your own.

I used to think we could only exist in those either ors..
I had to unlearn all of that.

Because the world will always find a way to reframe our wins as almost-losses.
-You grew 40%? Why not 60?
-You hired a great team? Why aren't you doing more yourself?
-You have a thriving business and a family? But are you really present for both?

We are surrounded by "two golds lost" questions.

But now I know getting defensive isn’t the solution.

You just need to be so clear on what you’ve built and why, that those kind of questions don’t affect you.

Stop letting other people decide what winning looks like for you.

High-performing women are getting sick. And no one is talking about it.

Your body has been trying to tell you something.

And if you're anything like I was three years ago, you've been really good at not listening.

I get it.
You're building something that matters. There are people counting on you.
So you push through the fatigue, ignore the headaches and teell yourself you'll rest "when things slow down."

The unfortunate thing is that things never slow down.
You slow down. Or your body forces you to.

Three years ago, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and it was a complete wake-up call.

I had been grinding and powering through no matter what because, as women in leadership, we’ve learnt to treat ourselves like high-performance machines.
But even a car running at full engine power 24/7 will break down.

So what I see now, especially among women leaders and law firm owners, terrifies me.
More autoimmune diseases.
More cancer diagnoses.
More women with bodies screaming for help.

We keep ignoring the signals because we think rest is optional.
It's not.

I know what you're thinking: "If I slow down, my business will suffer."

I thought that too.

But once I started listening to my body instead of constantly pushing, my business actually got stronger.
Because I finally started building a business that relied on systems, people I trusted and clear boundaries, instead of one that depended on my adrenaline.

A successful business is the result of good people and good processes.

So this is your permission slip: Stop grinding yourself into the ground.

Listen to your body. Respect your cycles. Slow down.

You can be powerful and rested.
You just have to decide that your health is not negotiable.

We don’t need another panel on growth,
We need one on BURNOUT.

Because behind many “7-figure firm” stories is a founder who hasn’t slept properly in months.

I attend a lot of legal conferences.
Beautiful venues.
Powerful speakers.
Packed rooms.

But more often than I’d like, I leave thinking the same thing:
We’re not talking about what actually keeps firm owners up at night.
We speak about scaling, marketing, innovation, etc.
But the real struggles we deal with?
They rarely make it to the stage.

So here are some of the topics that deserve the microphone.

👉 Burnout:
The kind where you’re winning cases but losing sleep, or where your firm is growing… but your patience at home is shrinking.

👉 Resistance to change:
AI, remote teams, delegation, systems.
We nod during panels about innovation but then go back to doing everything ourselves, because we feel letting go is riskier than staying overwhelmed.

👉 Leadership pressure:
When you’re the owner, everyone looks to you.
You are the strategist, the decision-maker, the culture-setter. You carry it all.

👉 Loneliness:
Owning a firm is supposed to mean you “made it.” But many founders have told me privately that:
- “I can’t turn my brain off.”
- “I feel responsible for everyone’s paycheck.”
- “There’s no one I can really talk to about this.”

Because success can be isolating.

Especially for women law firm owners who are also mothers, partners, daughters, still carrying invisible expectations at home.

We need more honesty at legal conferences not more polished keynotes.
Because when we normalize these conversations, we give other leaders permission to evolve.
