LinkedIn algo is changing: 

1. Post lifetime is up
- I'm seeing posts get 1k impressions in 24 hours and then 5-8x'ing over the next 4 days. 

2. Weekends are in 
- I used to avoid weekend posting due to lower impressions for effort ratio. But I'm now seeing weekends performing very well + helping compound impressions on weekdays. 

3. Save metric is king
- I'm seeing a bigger correlation between saves and impressions. Even more important to be optimising for perceived value in the feed 

4. Single image is in 
- Scroll through the feed. Count the number of times you see carousels vs single image vs video. I'm seeing single image being in. And generally single image posts performing much better. We're leaning into this.

On mature LinkedIn accounts

I post content like Meta ads: 

Testing
- 30% of post volume 
- Speaking to a new point 
- Trying a completely new hook 
- Imitating a post from a different niche 

I'll typically see 40% of these posts 'underperform', 40% do average, and then 20% absolutely go viral. 

Iteration
- 70% of post volume 
- Speak to winning pain point 
- Reuse similar winning features (e.g. hook, image, format, style) 
- Imitate yourself 

Goal is to maintain impressions and/or beat them by working out what was throttling growth before. 

Very important if the post was low impressions but got leads. More leads = more impressions here. 

How to repeat posts (without it getting dry)

1. Take a winning post
2. Copy and paste it exactly 
3. Copy the body and image, change the hook
4. Copy the hook and body, change the image
5. Keep the same format, change the hook, body, image 
6. Take the same idea, change the format completely 

I've found I can do the same post 10-20 times and the audience loves it.

"What do I post on LinkedIn?"

If your goal is: 

To get your future customers to say:

- "Check out this post by ___"
- "Her content is so awesome"
- "I know a good ___"

And my favourite: 

- "I've been reading your content for a while" 

Then here's 3 quick tips: 

(1) 60%+ CATEGORY 
- Focus 60% of your content on your category / industry
- Build authority by showing specific expertise 
- Share posts like hot takes, industry commentary, tools, templates, frameworks

(2) IDEAL CUSTOMER 
- Focus on what your ideal customer would find emotionally interesting 
- Use this quote to help. "People will [like and comment] for anyone who justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies"
- Reminder to also focus on their jobs to be done / responsibilities. 

(3) FORMATS & CADENCE
- Aim for text based posts to start. Don't overcomplicate it.
- Then start to add media through team photos, lifestyle shots, screenshots of proof. Once you've built a habit you can lean into infographics, carousels and videos. Note - these are time consuming formats. 
- Aim for 5 posts p/w. I know some people suggest 1/2 posts p/w. But really - it's not a huge jump to hit 5. You just need to hit publish. Your quality will increase faster with more reps.

Someone read what I posted yesterday

And booked a call with a $10M+ business.

1. What [10%]
2. Why [20%]
3. How [70%] 

What = Hook
- What am I going to read
- The shortest part of the post
- Filters whoever you want to read the rest

Why = Context / Agitation 
- Why is this important 
- You can skip this section 
- Agitate the problem or the what, create tension

How = Body
- Go into classic formats
- Listicle, bullet points (same as this post) 
- This is the meat of the post

If your How = useful, you'll get lots of saves
If your What = controversial, you'll get lots of comments

If you're a boutique agency/consultant

And have a small TAM - read this 

It's a no brainer to:

a) Upload the list to LinkedIn ads
b) Boost your best performing organic posts
c) Guarantee your ICP knows who you are

And if your list is really small. 

a) Target each potential client in a seperate campaign
b) Run ads to all the right seniorities 
c) Guarantee your ICP knows who you are

Is your LinkedIn actually growing 

Or are you getting lucky? 

First 90-180 days on LinkedIn is kinda throwing shit at a wall
Getting data on pain points & angles
Testing what works

Days 180-360 is when i have some very clear goals
- Increase average impressions
- Reduce post variability (minimize duds but maximize virality)

I do this by building this graph. 
- Rolling mean impressions (look back 20 posts)
- Rolling mean impressions (look back 7 posts)
+- Standard deviation

When stuff spikes it's because we've gone massively viral
7 day look back is a faster reaction (that's why you see it drop vs 20 look back)
20 look back shows average impressions increasing.

Takeaway: 
What I'm looking for is my rolling mean to increase
And the banded highlighted area to increase with it.

If you 
a) run a mature linkedin account (daily posting + ~3k average impressions)
b) want to make this an actual predicitable engine

At 23 I landed a SaaS AE role with zero SaaS experience.
It paid me £250k.

That was 14 years ago now so that money is probably equivalent to £500k in todays money. 

And it was the role that kickstarted my SaaS career. It was the role that enabled me to buy my first property. It's the role that I will always be most grateful for. 

And over the years I've had people have called me "lucky" but the reality is it wasn't luck and was sheer resilience.

Here is how I got the role without any experience:

1. Sent the MD a connection request
2. Sent a DM once he accepted
3. Sent another one when he didn't respond
4. Picked up the phone when he didn't respond
5. Booked in the interview on the call 
6. Completed 2 interviews
7. Got the job

He agreed to meet me because I showed I could do the job. I didn't take the first no. I was hired as the experiment. 

I started on a £45k basic and I turned it into £250k with commission.

I’ve never believed in luck.
I always believed in creating your own!

We just worked with VC backed SaaS company.

We helped them hire a founding AE.

That company was Sable Bio.

They were looking for a founding AE to help work alongside the founders to help them scale post funding round. 

They are a founding team of deep domain experts but a team that haven’t built a commercial team before. So a perfect fit for Cosmic as we love using our expertise to consult and advise on what good looks like and help ensure they are set up for success. 

So how did we find the right person?

1. Spent 2 hours onboarding them
2. Spoke to their investors
3. Ran a go-live session to ensure we were all aligned 
4. Created the JD, final stage task and outbound messaging
5. Looked at the addressable market of candidates
6. Marketed the role to our extensive network
7. Started our unique headhunting process
8. Reviewed over 3k potential candidates
9. Identified 267 people that looked excellent
10. Ran our outbound process 
11. Competed 54, 15 min qualification calls
12. Ran 26, 30 minute interviews
13. Booked 4 people in the CEOs diary
14. Booked 2 people in for final stage
15. Helped with the offer and reference process

BUT that’s not all… 

Because we aren’t a traditional recruitment company that just fills roles....

We found that founders at this stage need more than just a person. They need the right advice around what to do before the hire comes in and after. This is what mitigates the high failure rate from these roles. 

So using my revenue leader experience I advised their CEO around the best practice on:

- How to sell as a founder
- How to transition from founder-led sales
- How to create an attractive commission plan
- How to onboard a founding AE
- How to act like a revenue leader

And the crazy part is we do all of this as part of our fee. So we are literally doing 90% more work that traditional recruitment companies for the same fee. 

In my experience hiring is only one part of the process but you need the right conditions for success and that’s the reason so many early sales hires fail. 

And this is EXACTLY why we set up Cosmic. We built a process using all our years of experience as operators. 

Because you can't just post a job and think that is a strategy or work with a recruitment company that doesn't have the right experience to set you up for success. These hires can completely change the growth trajectory of SaaS company.

Early sales traction is one of the most misleading signals in SaaS. Those first 5-10 customers will buy almost anything.

Why?

- They are early adopters
- They like you and not the product
- They will tolerate broken onboarding
- They will forgive missing features
- They will work manually around the gaps

So the early revenue shows up…

And founders think they can just carry on growing. And I see founders all the time tell me “cool we will just do more of this.”

But that’s the trap.

Yes those early sales prove you can do some founder-led sales. But they don’t prove the product sells.

And things start to break when ever deal feels bespoke and pricing gets flexible. 

On Friday I spoke to a Seed Stage founder at £247k ARR who thought they had early traction. They were selling enterprise SaaS to big banks and were giving free trials and every prospect was on some bespoke pricing model. I told them to stop as this is nothing but fake momentum and doesn't scale. 

Real traction looks like this:

- Shorter sales cycles.
- Demos that need less explaining.
- Custom requests disappear.
- Buyers selling internally for you.
- New customers sound like old ones.

And I get it early revenue feels good.

But repeatable sales changes everything.

And until you have customers that buy without free trials, discounts and customising product you don’t have momentum. You have a sales process problem.

Build the playbook then scale.
