I've seen the number 1 reason brands fail at building pipeline.

Not having a senior marketing leader internal to the brand, that cares. A leader that cares, leads from experience, and understands how to guide internal stakeholders to success.

I've seen it time and time again. Brands just trying tactics. Brand chasing low cost efforts for "generating leads" at volume, or just blowing ad budget before they have a product-market fit or any content of value.

This will fail almost everytime (minus those unicorn products where anything would work haha). This finding, is also why I started LeadGenOS.

Workign directly with agencies exclusively can be successful, but it's expensive and you're also not setting yourself up for an agile marketing practice. 

Hiring a junior marketer in house under your sales team will get marketing materials built, but it won't position your company and is ultimately expensive for another reason, speed to market and growth opportunity.

Most brands that try Reddit Ads fail for the same reasons.

They take what's working on Meta or Google, drop it into Reddit, and wonder why nothing converts.

Reddit isn't going to take off with your existing creative.

The audiences are different, the culture is different, and the tolerance for poor ads is low 

Here's what kills performance:

Copy and creative pulled straight from other platforms with zero adaptation. Offers that jump straight to "Book a Demo" on first touch. Landing pages built for buyers who are already sold. Tracking cobbled together without CAPI. No real understanding of which subreddits your ICP actually lives in.

The brands that get results do the opposite.

They research communities before building anything. They create middle-of-funnel offers that give value before asking for anything in return. They test creative at low CPM before pushing spend behind winners.

The irony is that every brand burned by Reddit Ads makes it less competitive for the ones willing to do it right.

Finding strong ROI harder and harder to come by?

If you (like every other brand essentially) have seen rising competition and media costs in your paid media programs, you need to get sharper on your diagnostics. 

It's important to lean into your hired experts but if the marketing program you run is significantly driven by Paid Media, I always suggest the marketing leaders have a strong reporting and escalation process in place.

One of the best parts of my role is the eternal on-the-job learning. For instance: I have a passing understanding of PPC advertising but get to pick the brains of brilliant strategists and specialists like Ben Dankiw and Daniela Poblete 🎯. 

Recently I asked them "what do you think is the most important development in paid media right now?" and Ben explained how automation has created a massive blind spot. 

Machine learning and algos now handle a lot of the in-platform optimization that used to require entire teams of specialists. So, when campaigns underperform, most teams default to the only levers they recognize (bid adjustments, audience swaps, budget increases). 

But those are all in-platform moves. And in-platform moves can only solve in-platform problems.  That's not going to cut it considering the average B2B company now pays $70 per lead from Google Ads (up 69% in 4 years).

Ben's framework breaks diagnosis into three sequential checks:

Creative: are people clicking? 
Landing Page: are they converting? 
Post-Click: are leads becoming revenue?

The order matters here. If creative is the bottleneck, there's no point auditing your landing page. And if both are healthy but pipeline isn't growing, the problem lives outside the ad platform entirely (where too many paid media specialists never look).

What started as a casual tutoring session turned into a full diagnostic guide based on nearly two decades of experience between Ben and Daniela, with benchmark data from WordStream, Dreamdata, and HubSpot, plus the decision tree to run the sequence yourself.
