“Should the man pay, or should we split the bill on a first date?”
I was recently asked this on a podcast—and the fact that it still sparks so much debate says a lot about modern dating.

Because this isn’t really an economic question.
Or even an equity question.
It’s a confusion question.

We’re dating in a moment where roles and norms are scrambled and people got very different memos about what’s expected.

Some women expect men to pay because they’ve invested time, money, and effort into showing up—and because early gallantry feels like a preview of how they’ll be treated.

Other women are perfectly happy paying their own way and don’t want to feel indebted to someone they just met.

Some men enjoy treating and feel proud doing so.
Others feel burned after too many expensive dates that went nowhere.

So what’s the solution?

Most people approach this as a transaction:
I do this, so you should do that.

But that’s the wrong frame.
Instead, treat this as an opportunity for communication.

Ask:
👉 “What are your thoughts on who should pay on a first date?”

That one question tells you so much:
– their recent dating experiences
– their beliefs about gender roles
– their comfort with money
– how they handle awkward conversations

Then share your own preference—and why.
No assuming.
No testing.
No silent scorekeeping.
Just clarity, curiosity, and boundaries.

That’s communication in action.
And that’s how grown-up relationships are built.

We have more ways to communicate than ever…
So why does it sometimes feel like we’re talking into the void?

A reader recently told me she and her partner have a no-phone rule.
Times when phones go away. No pings. No scrolling. Just… being together.

That tells us everything.
What we’re craving isn’t more communication.
It’s more humanness.

Here’s the paradox:
We can text, DM, voice memo, video chat, email—endlessly.
And yet, we’re lonelier than ever.

Dating makes this especially obvious.
Weeks of texting with someone you’ve never met, wondering why it feels flat or confusing.

Because tech can’t transmit:
✨ energy
✨ body language
✨ facial expressions
✨ that subtle shift in someone’s voice when they’re excited

Without those cues, our brains fill in the blanks.
And spoiler: we usually fill them in with old stories and assumptions—not reality.

So here’s the move:
Get human as fast as possible.
In-person > video call > phone call > texting
Stop the texting Olympics. Start vibing human to human.

And in established relationships?
Closeness comes from presence. Phones down. Eyes up. Leaning in.

The irony is delicious:
In the age of so much communication tech, the best way to connect is to use… less of it.

Be more human. Be more present.

"Is it OK to chase men?"

Women of a certain age were taught a very specific rulebook: Don't chase. Don't look too interested. Play it cool and let him come to you.

Here's the problem.
Too many of us have played it SO cool that we're now emotionally unavailable, mildly detached, and one bad day away from being crowned Ice Queen of the Year (sorry, Elsa).

And honestly? "Make men chase you" is a terrible dating strategy.

Here's why:

First: We're dating in a post-#MeToo world. Many men will not make overt moves unless they receive clear signals of interest. Not because they're weak or uninterested—but because they want to be respectful and not misread the situation.

Second: Men who are only interested when you seem disinterested? They're often not looking for an equal, reciprocal relationship. They're chasing the thrill, the validation, the conquest—not partnership. That's ego, not love.

So what should you do instead?
Stop thinking of dating as a chase.
Start thinking of it as a dance.

In a good dance, you take turns leading and following. You signal interest. You give him space to respond. You adjust. You add a twirl. You communicate with words, energy, and presence—and you see if you actually move well together.

So the short answer?
No, don't chase men. And don’t wait for him to chase you.

The longer answer?
Learn the dance of love—and choose someone who brings out the best dancer in you.

How Skills Can Turn Your Love Life Around

"Why should we even bother trying to find love?"

If you've been single for a while—especially after navigating yet another disappointing date or spending another weekend alone—this question has probably crossed your mind.
Maybe more than once.

Here's what I know after years of doing this work:
Your nervous system is literally wired for connection.

For most of human history, being alone meant you didn't survive. And your body? It still remembers that.

Modern life has made us independent, efficient, successful... and quietly so lonely.
You can go entire days without real human contact. Just screens, small talk, and coming home to silence.

But here's what changes with the right partner:
❤️ The science is clear: healthy relationships actually lower your stress hormones and boost your love hormones. That's not just romance—that's biology working in your favor.

❤️ Partnerships help us live longer, feel calmer, and enjoy the little things more. Because joy? Joy multiplies when someone's there to share it with you.

❤️ And here's what really matters:
A partner witnesses your life. Sees you. Cheers you on. Helps you become MORE of who you already are—not less.
Food tastes better when there's someone across the table.
Travel feels richer when you can nudge them and say "are you seeing this?!"
Life just feels... bigger.

And honestly? Love for love's sake is one of the best reasons there is.
You don't need a productivity metric for wanting partnership. You don't need to justify wanting connection.
Sometimes "because it feels good" is enough.

You don't have to do love alone anymore. 💛

I used to build entire lifetimes in my head after one good date.
A spark… and suddenly we were traveling together, meeting each other’s friends, growing old in some sun-drenched fantasy.

The higher the fantasy soared, the harder the crash.

Because I wasn’t dealing with a Disney prince.
I was dealing with a complicated human being.
And the more my mind ran ahead of reality, the more tightly I clung to someone who wasn’t feeling it the same way.

We tend to think early romantic fantasy is harmless—part of the fun of dating.
But in practice, it can sabotage connection.

Here’s why those fantasies are costly:
💔 They keep you from seeing who someone actually is (vs. who you hope they’ll be).
💔 They make the relationship feel like it has to work—at any cost.
💔 They create pressure and stakes that don’t belong on a first or second date.
💔 And yes… they give off desperation vibes, even when you’re trying to hide them.

What works better?
Learning how to stay present, grounded, and curious instead of future-tripping.

A few things that helped me:
💜 Reminding myself: This is data, not destiny.
💜 Separating chemistry from compatibility.
💜 Keeping my life full instead of emotionally rearranging it around a stranger.
💜 Bringing my attention back to my body when my mind started racing.
💜 Asking: How do I feel when I’m with him? rather than What does this mean?

Something surprising happens when a woman shows up this way.
💕 Your date feels it.
💕 He senses your presence instead of projection.
💕 Your curiosity instead of expectation.
💕 Your openness instead of pressure.
💕 He doesn’t feel like he’s been cast in a role he has to perform.
💕 He doesn’t feel responsible for your emotional state after one date.
💕 He feels safe enough to relax, be himself, and show you who he really is.

And that—ironically—is what creates real connection.
Not fantasy.
Not effort.
Not trying to make something happen.

Just two grounded humans, meeting in real time, and seeing what’s actually there.
That’s where love has room to grow. 💛
