I paid $1200 for a call with a “LInkedIn expert”.
It was disappointing.
 
A couple years ago a client brought a LinkedIn creator to my attention. The person had a couple hundred thousand followers on here. And their posts consistently got hundreds (if not thousands) of likes.
 
I was curious.
 
Especially since their content seemed rather surface-level + obvious. What secrets did they have that I hadn’t figured out yet?
 
So I booked a call for $1200.
 
They were friendly. And they gave me one helpful insight: the copy with my recent carousel post was repeating what was already in the slides. So it wasn’t acting as a good “hook”.
 
But the ending of our call was painful.
 
I asked several questions to better understand their actual strategy. How were they getting SO MUCH TRACTION on their content? That’s when they stunned me with a question.
 
”Have you heard of “engagement pods”?
 
F**k. The secret to their impressive engagement was that it was fabricated. Whenever you find yourself admiring someone on here that consistently gets 100s or 1000s of likes on every post, know that it’s only possibly if….

1. You spend HOURS on the platform every. single. day. Engaging with dozens if not hundreds of other people on the platform.     
   
2. You're a part of a pod or use automation to guarantee your posts get loads of engagement. 
   
3. You were famous BEFORE you started actively posting on here. 

I'm sure there's exceptions.  

(because there are in every situation)  

But if you find yourself lusting over the people who seem to "have it made" because their posts always get hundreds of likes, know that those are the three paths to get there. And you might want to choose different metrics to chase.  

Because...  

Even if your posts get crazy traction, it doesn't guarantee you'll get clients.

I never intended these shoes to be a part of my “brand”. I bought the first pair so I’d have funky kicks on when I competed in Speaker Slam a couple years ago. But something unexpected happened....
 
Every time I left the house in them:
 
Strangers smiled
People asked questions
And folks even asked to take pics of them
 
These brightly coloured kicks create immense joy.
 
And people started associating these crazy sneaks with me. “I recognized you right away by your shoes.” (this has been said to me multiple times)

Why do I have so many?
 
I didn’t want to be sad when the shoes died, so I bought a back up pair. Then another. And I got another set for my bday last month.

Now I have four pairs. 😂

What are you "known for" that has nothing to do with your actual work?

You’d be better off with 200 views per post from a highly specific group of people that see you as credible than getting 10,000 views on your posts from a broad audience.
 
Going viral isn’t the goal.
 
Getting your message in front of people you’re excited to serve is.
 
And then? 

You want to invite them deeper into your world. You want to build a relationship with them. You're not McDonalds trying to sell millions of 99 cent cones, you're looking for a dozen Dream Clients to do bigger meaningful work with.

Relationships > transactions.

I’m connected with 26,281 people on here. 
But this is for one single person.
 
A good vibe human with a business that’s already bringing in real revenue. A coach, consultant, or speaker doing work with meaning. Someone who knows 2026 is going to be a year of intentional growth for them.

These aren’t pictures for inspiration.

It’s the actual private resort we have booked for the retreat in February. The venue was chosen specifically to fuel:
 
Connection. 
Creativity. 
Calm.

I’m bringing together a dozen dope humans for a mastermind in Mexico.
 
AND THERE'S ONE SINGLE SPOT LEFT.

What you can expect:
 
We’re going to spend the mornings learning and the afternoons refuelling. We’ll be combining both business strategy + inner work. Because you can know all the business stuff in the world, but you’ll struggle to make progress if you’re not also dialling in your inner game.
  
Why did I create this?
 
I want to surround myself with people doing bold sh*t. One of my current life-guiding principles is “I spend more time with people in-person than I do on Zoom”.  And I’ve found that these in-person masterminds unlock magic.

My excitement tricks me into thinking I can DO IT ALL.

P.S. Do you try to do too much at once?

I used to dream of having a Wiki page. Part of me really thought having a profile on that site would represent that I'd "made it". 

I took it off my list of goals years ago.

But I'd be lying if I didn't admit that my ego enjoys seeing the AI summary Google spits out when you enter my name.

Sure a couple things are weird/wrong:

• Growth Habit isn't an "agency"
• I didn't "spend my 20s as a high school drop out". That's still very much a fact now in my late 40s. 😂

But it's kind of bananas how detailed it is. 
And most of it is right.

P.S. Are we entering an era where you need a decent AI summary to be seen as legitimate?

I failed. How do you review an entire year in one post?

𝗟𝗘𝗧'𝗦 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗨𝗚𝗟𝗬....

• I had another false start with creating a podcast. That’s now twice that I’ve started a podcast and it didn’t go anywhere. This time around, I recorded four in-person episodes and didn’t publish a single one. F**k.
• I messed up by making the main two days for Do Bold Sh*t on a Saturday and Sunday. It’s tough for many people to give up an entire weekend. So while the first half of tickets flew, it was hard to sell the second half. I had to push.
• I set a big ambitious goal 12 months ago and completely failed (I’ll break that down for you in a minute).
  
𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗙𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘?

• I had 154 clients in 2025. This includes paid workshops, in-person events, and people who worked with me in more intimate ways (like The Impact Accelerator).
• The cheapest thing I sold were templates + prompts for $7. The most expensive thing I sold was 6 months of 1:1 mentorship for $18,200.
• My revenue grew considerably for the third year in a row (32% increase over 2024).
• We hosted 67 people, from 5 different countries, over 3 days at Do Bold Sh*t. And the feedback was out of this world. See for yourself in the videos here: https://doboldshit.com/
• I did my first international keynote talk at Evolve Festival in Atlanta.
  
𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗣? 

• Three close family members spent considerable time in the hospital in 2025. One was hospitalized for months. This made me grateful for the flexibility I have.
• I got to travel a lot this year. Including Bali, Mexico, Miami, Montreal, Atlanta, Halifax, and hiking on Lake Superior. On one of those trips, I got to spend time with my wise 90 year old grandma: https://lnkd.in/g7HZB_Rd?
• I put on 15lbs of muscle. This is thanks to hiring a new personal trainer + changing my identity around the gym. I now see myself as someone who works out three times a week.
  
Before I breakdown my massive failure, I want to share something else I’m proud of.

𝗜𝗧'𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗢𝗡 𝗠𝗬 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝟮 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦

I put an image with the word “community” on my vision board in December 2023. It can get lonely running your own business out of your home office. So I set out to create an active, intentional, + supportive community of incredible humans.

And it now feels real.

People who met through the Growth Habit community went out of their way to hang out together in Europe, St-Louis, and Chicago this year. Anette + Antoni met at our June event and are now building an app together. And several people who connected with Vivian at Do Bold Sh*t attended Speaker Slam’s Grand Slam so they could support her as she competed.

These people are becoming friends, building businesses together, and being there for each other.

And I'm onboarding 9 new clients this week.
That's thanks to

the simple systems I have in my business (like the Rocketship Method™) that turns Strangers Into Clients. Even when I unplug.

So what did I do for the last two and a half weeks?

Ate yummy food.
Laughed with the kids.
Had meaningful convos with my love.

I slowed the heck down.

I meditated, read, and wrote (a lot). And I went back to basics. I spent a couple days reviewing my values and then mapped them out my goals, systems, and calendar to ensure they actually fuel those values.
