Early on, I relied on my left brain way too much. I didn't know myself, and I let conditioning, fear, and over-sensitivity rule my life.

This led to choosing a wrong degree, starting in a wrong career, and being who I wasn't for many years.

I kept showing up in a certain way, and then blamed others for not really seeing me!
I kept feeling frustrated and angry, and didn't know why.

Gradually, I came to see that expression, creativity, empathy, inspiration, and intuition are all a big part of me, too.

I've embraced my left and right brain strengths, and worked through much of the pain, struggles, and resistance I had built up over the years.

Now, I bring everything I've learned to help others bring out their full potential and the parts of themselves they have ignored for too long.

Originally from the UK, I worked in accounting before heading abroad at 26. I spent a year in Australia and then taught Business English in Japan, where I also wrote test items for their national English test company.

I moved to Canada in 2009 to live at a meditation center. Now I support the center virtually and run local classes here in Calgary. You're welcome to join the online meditation circle I co-founded in 2020 for people who want a regular meditation practice.

By living and working in mindful communities for 15 years, I've learned so much about myself and others, how teams interact, and how the shadow can wreak havoc. Human Design and BG5 came to me from a chance encounter when I challenged myself to meet a group of new people - the kind of thing I'm designed to do. It's given me a framework that brings all my skills together to help others.

The answer to finding a job after a layoff is NOT start your own business 

And Stop working for someone else

And Stop making someone else’s dream grow

For some it is…. Absolutely 

And people should take risks where they can and challenge themselves 

But for some it’s not an option.

I am now a solo mom, not by choice by circumstance. 

If I am laid off tomorrow I cannot just give up benefits and a steady paycheck to work for myself 

I don’t have the financial means to survive without a salary 

And I don’t have the same 24 hours in a day that others do because I have kids who rely on me and only me now.

I don’t feel badly for myself. I don’t make excuses.  I live in reality 

So if someone does a vulnerable open to work post with specific jobs they are looking for…

Offer to help them 

Offer connections 

Offer an ear or a strategy 

Don’t offer your opinions on the only way to be successful when it’s not a one size fits all situation 

End rant.

December 2025 my husband died of a heart attack. 

October 2023 my dad died of Glioblastoma 

June 2015 my son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 

April 2012 my son was diagnosed with celiac

July 2012 my husband found out he had spinal stenosis after years of back issues 

April 2011 my mom died of lung cancer 

April 2011 I had my 2nd miscarriage 

Not to mention many health issues my husband had including numerous surgeries 

I’ve spent my entire career in healthcare tech and healthcare 

Healthcare is personal to me. I’ve seen the effects of good and bad care, insurance and systems and tools.

I didn’t choose a career in healthcare, it just happened. 

But just a quick look at this list shows why I’ve stayed. 

Sometimes passion for industries isn’t a decision but a result of life experience.

PS: a reminder too that life is HARD and we are built for hard things

I have been debating if posting on LinkedIn is worth it anymore. 

I have posted on LinkedIn every single day since April of 2020 except when my husband died in December I took a break. 

I comment daily because I want to, not because I have to. 

I’ve seen the intro of the green banner.  The people who love and hate it.

I’ve seen AI comments be introduced, and contributions to AI articles that have weird badges given. 

I’ve gotten two jobs and 5 job offers as a result of my posts on LinkedIn. 

I’ve raised $6500 for holiday presents for kids whose parents have been laid off with the help of this amazing community.

I’ve started a coaching business for career and life coaching and thus far have had 10 amazing clients and re-launching soon. 

I have given away over 30 coffees, 100+ hours of free coaching, and contributed over $1000 of my own money to help people 

And in return LinkedIn has been a place for me to grow, learn, connect, network and share my passion for writing and building a community. 

But like anything in life there comes a time when you wonder if the efforts are worth the output and if you can use your (for me even more limited) time now in other ways.

This isn’t a goodbye post - as I’ve always said LinkedIn isn’t an airport you don’t need to announce your arrivals and departures 

But it is me talking out loud wondering what other platforms people use to connect, build and share thoughts.

My purpose on LinkedIn has always been numerous - to help, to share my own life experiences at work and life, to support working moms and to cheer on good humans.

Those goals don’t change, but maybe the platform does - on or offline.

What are your thoughts?

PS: The LinkedIn community has also been so generous to help my boys and I try to find a way to stay in our home 💕

8 weeks ago my husband died suddenly leaving me as the solo parent to our two boys.

I miss him every second of every day. 

I don’t want to do it all alone, but I have been given no other choice. 

And that’s just it…  we don’t always get to make the choice, choose our path, decide the twists and turns in life…

But we DO get to decide how we show up, deal with things, rise up, and be kind to ourselves and others. 

Life without Joe will never be the same for my boys and I.  But life keeps going… whether we want it to pause or not. 

So how we show up matters, and how we make the time we have count matters!!!! 

Do your best every day..  but take time to reflect on the good, too. And the bad. 

But more so the good. 

It’s out there. Even in the darkest times.

My hope for every person going through job or life struggles right now is that you can find the slivers of light.

And be the light for others if you can

No different than any community, supporting others introduces you to new people, too

My coaching client called me today to say she got offered her dream job at 25% more pay!!! 

This isn’t common these days. 

This isn’t the norm. 

These aren’t results I guarantee or promise any clients I work with.

But they ARE possible.  And that’s what I hope those who are going through rough patches in life and job realize. 

Hope isn’t a job search strategy or a way to manifest a better life..

But it sure is part of strategy to keep you motivated and believing in yourself 

Be a good human

If you’re a CEO you SHOULDN’T expect your employees to be working as much as you.  

Period. 



The CEO at a former company I worked at, used to tell me he was frustrated no one worked as hard as him. 

He complained that he worked every weekend (and he sent us all emails all weekend too).

He worked late at night (and called often when I was at 8pm baseball games, in mom mode).

He talked about how he started work at 5am every day (and often made his leaders get on calls at 6:30am).

He couldn’t understand why “these younger generations” didn’t have the same work ethic.

What he failed to realize is “younger people” aren’t lazy. 

They aren’t less dedicated. 

They aren’t different than any generation before them. 

They simply know what’s important to them, as every generation does. 

He is the leader of the company and likely makes far more money than anyone else. 

You can’t expect someone in an entry level role to have the same responsibilities and work hours as someone making 350k+.

We all should take personal pride in our work 

We should give it our best, whatever that is day to day. 

We should work hard, there’s no substitution for it 

But how you choose to work as an executive should NOT be how you expect your team to work. 

Hustle away, just don’t create hustle culture for others. 

Be a good human. Lead well.

Be honest and realistic about your job search. 

I’m open to doing anything isn’t going to work in this job market. 

It may be true. You may be a jill of all trades. You may be interested in doing anything and everything. 

But there are thousands of ridiculously qualified people looking for roles right now.

Companies can be picky and they can be resolute in what they want. 

So you need to be, too.

It’s scary to narrow and niche down too much.  I was afraid I would miss out on opportunties. 

But the truth is, you have skills and jobs you’ve done. You have a skill set for a specific group of jobs 

That’s where the focus should be. 

And in time you can grow that as the job market changes and seek out new roles.

I’ll do anything isn’t the answer. 🤷‍♀️

Strong personal statement. Confidence. And skills to back it up

So few leaders know what leadership is and what it takes to keep employees engaged.


It doesn’t take much to recognize employees

It doesn’t take long for a manager to as thank you 

I see you 

I know the work you’re doing 

Not during a formal review, or yearly talks 

But every day, every week. 

Yes, most of us would like to have more money, bonuses, raises 

But big promotions and raises aren’t always possible 

But acknowledgment, recognition, a thank you costs nothing. 

In a world where people are holding on to jobs tightly and worried if they’re next 

A simple good job can motivate people more than you know 

Sad that corporate America just doesn’t see this
