This is the part of leadership most spreadsheets can’t capture. When behavior stops making sense, there’s almost always unseen pressure in the room.
What stands out here is the refusal to confuse kindness with lowering standards. Real leadership is keeping the bar high AND removing shame from the climb.
Culture isn’t what you say you value - it’s how safe it feels for people to be human while doing hard work.

You have no idea what people are dealing with.
Not even close.
And that’s ok.

Because you just have to be kind.

The person who snapped in your meeting might have a kid who’s struggling.

The one who “doesn’t care anymore” might be keeping a marriage together with duct tape.

The quiet one who missed a deadline might be dealing with a parent who’s fading, fast.

Work makes it easy to pretend everyone is a machine.

Metrics. Output. Deadlines. Slack green dots.

👉 But leadership is what you do when the spreadsheet stops explaining the behaviour.

Bad leaders get this part wrong: 

They think kindness is a personality trait.

It isn’t.
It’s a professional skill. 
And it’s different to being NICE.

Kind isn’t soft.
Kind is controlled.

Nice avoids the hard chat.
Kind has it, without making the person feel small.

Nice lowers standards so nobody feels uncomfortable.
Kind keeps standards high and removes the shame from getting there.

I learned this the hard way building companies from nothing.

⚠️ When you’re under pressure yourself, your instincts get ugly, and you start to:
Push harder. Watch closer. Assume the worst.

It feels “productive”.

It’s usually expensive.

Because people don’t leave jobs first.
They leave the feeling of being misunderstood.

So if you want a practical way to lead like a grown up, try this:

Before you judge the performance, check the pressure they are under.

BUT, a simple “You alright?” is not leadership.
Anyone can say that.

📌This is leadership:

1.	Ask a better question
“What’s taking up headspace right now?”
It gives them a door that isn’t dramatic.

2.	Offer a real option
“Do you want time, help, or privacy?”
Most people just need one of the three.

3.	Separate the person from the work
“You’re not your output. Let’s fix the work.”
That one sentence changes everything.

4.	Adjust the load, not the standards
“What do we de-scope for 7 days?”
Pressure without control creates mistakes.

5.	Protect them in public, coach them in private.
If you correct someone publicly, you teach the whole team to hide.

None of this is “being nice”.

It’s how you keep good people good.

Your culture isn’t your values on a Notion page.
It’s how safe it feels to have a bad week around you.

So yes, you seriously have NO idea what people are dealing with.

Lead like you know that.

When Ken Cox and I were talking recently on the Clicks and Bricks podcast, we kept circling back to something that doesn’t get talked about enough in business:

Your company grows at the speed of your own growth.

Not just revenue.

You can still be making money and feel something in the business has stalled.

Energy drops. Culture gets stale. Decisions feel heavier.

I’ve lived that.

In my first business, I thought learning business meant learning tactics. Strategy. Sales. Operations.

What is the next right action of integrity here?
Not the most comfortable action.
Not the one that protects your ego.
The one that’s actually right.

That’s where growth happens.
And when that shifts, the business shifts.

We take one rejection, one setback, one bad quarter, and we internalise it. We make it mean something about us.

No one's born brilliant at their craft. You get good through repetition, adjustment, and refusing to stop when it gets hard.

Your current failures aren't proof you're not good enough.

They're proof you're in the game.

The older kid doesn't owe him anything.
He could've laughed. Ignored him. Rolled away.

Gives him speed.

The kid explodes with joy.

That joy isn't random. It's the byproduct of a system.

Kindness is that system.

The older kid probably didn't wake up thinking, "Today I'll change someone's confidence."

He just has a pattern: When someone asks for help, I help.

Courage is contagious. Confidence is transferable.

Sometimes people don't need you to do the trick for them. They just need you to run with them long enough to believe they can.

In business.
In families.
In teams.
In life.

How to move AWAY from ChatGPT to Claude in less than 80 seconds.
Claude's better. Both from a software perspective and a moral one.

Here's how to migrate everything over without starting over:

1. Open Claude settings
↳ Go to capabilities
↳ Find "import memory from other AI providers"

2. Click import and copy the prompt
↳ Claude gives you a specific code to use

3. Paste that prompt into ChatGPT
↳ Wait while it pulls down everything it knows about you
↳ There'll be quite a lot

4. Copy all that output from ChatGPT

5. Paste it back into Claude

6. Scan through before you hit "add to memory"
↳ Remove outdated stuff (I found things from 3 years ago)
↳ Delete anything that's no longer relevant

7. Click "add to memory"

Done.

The whole thing takes about 2 minutes.

I was surprised how much ChatGPT had stored about me. Some of it was useful context. Some of it was ancient history that didn't need to come along.

Quick scan before importing saves you from carrying over dead weight.

*inspired by conversations i've heard with John Newton, Tarek Anwar and Robin Jones over the past few months.

I switched from ChatGPT to Claude a month ago. because the software was better. Turns out they are 'better' in unexpected ways too.

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, refused to give the Pentagon unlimited access to Claude for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. This means they can't be used for killing people without getting human permission

Trump got upset by this and banned federal agencies from using their tech. Then OpenAI/ChatGPT's CEO Sam Altman swooped in and signed the deal instead.

ChatGPT DGAF about all the potential killings it seems...

...And honestly It made me realise something.

Initially "better" just meant better software.
→ Cleaner code.
→ Faster outputs.
→ Fewer "em dashes"

Turns out it means a hell of a lot more than that. Dario's move changed the whole game.

He risked BILLIONS to stand up for what he believes in. He drew a line when most CEOs would've just signed the cheque. That's actual leadership. Thats a huge moral compass!

So now, when I think about what makes Anthropic's Claude "better," it's two things:

1️⃣ Better software (faster outputs, cleaner code, fewer "em dashes")
2️⃣ Better morals (a company that stands for something bigger than quarterly earnings)

I didn't expect a tech CEO to make me feel good about using their product for reasons that have nothing to do with performance. But here we are.

Feels weird to say this about AI software, but I'm genuinely proud to use Claude now.

Not just because it works. Because of what the company represents when it actually matters.

Here's how I made my last viral post.
It took me 15 minutes...

But first let me back up Let me back up.

Since the start of this year my growth had been dead. 
Posting into the void. 
Barely any traction.

Compared to December when I was absolutely crushing it.

What changed? I did a forensic deep dive and realised: 👇

In December, I was on LinkedIn every single day. 
Not just posting. Studying. 
Watching what went viral AND WHY.

That's when I spotted a format that was working everywhere.

My friend Hayden Swearling posted his version. 
I loved it. 
Others were doing it too. 
So i decided to make my own version...
(its the one with the Griaffes 🦒 in the water - which is why it's the cover of this carousel)

And here's the thing: this isn't copying.

It's being smart.

LinkedIn rewards certain formats. 
Other platforms do the same. 
Fighting that is pointless.

You might as well stack the deck in your favour.

So I thought: how can I make this mine?

I opened Kleo, dropped in my image prompts, and got to work.

15 minutes later, I had a post that was:

I posted it.

It went absolutely nuts.

And I've watched others copy my exact post and blow up too.

Every big goal feels impossible at first.
