54% of founders experienced burnout in the past 12 months.


Not the ones who failed. 
The ones still building.

Sifted's 2025 founder mental health survey paints a picture that should concern every investor, board member, and co-founder reading this:

→ 75% experienced anxiety in the past 12 months
→ 54% suffering insomnia
→ 83% experienced high stress
→ Only 6% reported zero mental health issues

I think the really interesting stat is this:

81% are hiding their stress from everyone around them. And 50%+ are hiding it from their own co-founders.

But this kind of makes sense as Founders tend to mix up their own personal identify with their startup.

Researchers are calling this "shadow burnout", (cool name, right?), persistent exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced cognitive capacity hidden behind continued high performance.

They're not missing targets. They're hitting them. 

That's why nobody sees the problem.

And the support infrastructure isn't great.

→ 56% received no mental health support from their investors. 
→ Only 3.6% said they receive "a lot." 
→ 77% are not getting any professional help at all.

One thing to note is that post-raise seems to be a trigger.
