Director, Risk & Analytics

Purpose of role
To lead the modelling and analytical elements of client projects. To be instrumental in new product and service development as well as supporting the marketing and sales process. Support strategic planning process.
 
Key achievements  
• Took lead on modelling elements of eurozone bank capital adequacy and/or expected loss stress tests.
• Core components included numerous PD & LGD models for different product types for expected loss models, financial statements forecasts and macroeconomic models.
• Loss Provision model validation and benchmarking projects

Senior Manager, Risk & Analytics

Purpose of role 
To provide data, analytical and modelling skills together with a broad understanding of the financial services and secured lending market in particular. The ability to work closely with clients and relate to their needs is a further element of the role. 

Key achievements  
•  Carried out scenario stress tests and cash flows on material UK mortgage book trades to assess the potential future losses and MTM book value
•  Project managing a web based revaluation tool for a client who provides auxiliary services to the financial services sector 
•  Contribution to development of internal models and proprietary software

Senior Analyst

Coventry Building Society

Purpose of role 
To integrate the Stroud and Swindon mortgage asset into the Coventry IRB capital framework from Standardised.  Deliver the optimal solution for the enlarged asset either by demonstrating commonality between the portfolios and thus utilising current models, or rebuilding the models to ensure applicability to the new enlarged asset.

Key achievements  
•  Delivery of a significant paper on the capital management strategy for incorporating the Stroud assets into the enlarged Building Society.
•  Ensured smooth transition of loss provisioning models into CBS framework.  This included Equity Release asset models.
•  Assisted in the relevant areas to support the production of the ICAAP for the enlarged asset

Risk Manager (Stroud - IRB Project)

Stroud & Swindon Building Society

Purpose of role 
To undertake the Risk Management duties set in the Group Board Manual.  To report to and attend the Credit Risk and Operational Risk Board sub committees.  To hold line management responsibility for both the Credit and Operational risk analyst.  

Key tasks and achievements  
Design, oversight and implementation responsibility for the Credit and Operational Risk sections of the Board risk reporting pack.  This pack enabled the Board to have a comprehensive view of all risks and to monitor risk appetite on a monthly basis.

Design and oversight of PD model build, scorecard monitoring, capital calculations, bad debt provisioning and all Credit and Operational risk MI.

Responsibility for all capital and loss forecasting for corporate planning and ICAAP

Risk Manager

Purpose of role
To carry out the credit risk analytics required to support the Group Risk Function in the development, implementation, analysis, and monitoring of appropriate credit risk management strategies, policies, procedures and techniques. To provide analytical support to Credit Committee, Senior Management and Executive to enable efficient operation of the risk governance framework.  Mentor the Risk Analyst.

Key tasks and achievements  
Designed and implemented a new bad debt provisioning model (expected loss) using Basel IRB principles and incorporated it into the wider credit risk framework.  This work received society wide recognition in the form of the 'Innovation of the Year' award in 2008 and resulted in a more optimal and accurate assessment of future mortgage losses.

Embedded Operational Risk within the Organisation: My manager and I took Operational Risk from a non entity to an integral part of the business and its control environment. Note: An Operational Risk analyst was appointed in May 2006 to reflect the growth and prominence of this area and my responsibilities migrated to predominantly Credit Risk. 

Assisted in the production of the Societies 'Individual Capital Adequacy Assessment Process' (ICAAP) and adoption of the Basel II regime.  Developed risk based methods to support and justify Capital numbers in terms of Credit Risk.  Developed a method to quantify and validate the Operational Risk Capital charge.

Assessment and analysis of viability of potential mortgage book purchases of varying levels of credit quality and maturity.  Extensive 'Equity Release' modelling for both capital and NNEG and assessment of potential book purchases.

Purpose of role
To carry out direct debit duties and administration for all mortgage assets.  To support the arrears team on any collections activities as applicable.

Key tasks and achievements  
Gained frontline experience of collections processes and was responsible for reporting and MI for the whole department 

Held responsibility for the entire direct debit collection process ensuring efficient collection of monies and minimisation of erroneous collection.

Collections Consultant

As Chief Risk Officer at the Buckinghamshire Building Society I call upon my 22 years experience as a risk professional in the financial services industry. My deep and varied knowledge gained through my exposure to the end-to-end risk management framework, and the completion of relevant qualifications, enables me to provide the necessary assurance through the Board governance structure.

My particular strengths include the use of sophisticated modelling techniques to deliver measurable business benefits. One of my core beliefs is that models must be practicably deployable and fit for purpose. Having presented technical methodologies at Executive and Board level over a number of years I recognise the importance of balancing risk and reward to deliver on commercial goals whilst operating within risk appetite.
