I joined Tendril as its Senior Vice President focusing on innovative approaches to new markets and new deals—in B2B and B2C arenas. As an advisor to the executive team, I also informed organizational scalability and incorporated capture and analysis of Big Data to increase our sales in novel spaces. Moreover, I was a strong mentoring voice in the identification and onboarding of capital investors, working with our CEO and CFO to raise investment and negotiate debt refinancing (both in the 8-figure range).

Key to our scalability was reinvestment into engineering, product, analytics, and dedicated marketing that transformed the business from startup to NYSE-traded “unicorn” valued at $1.5B by 2021. I materially contributed to the strategy, team development, and market expansion supporting this radical growth. 

Working alongside our executive team, we inked two resulting high-profile key deals—with large real estate businesses and cleantech firms. First, our HomeFit SaaS-based API open / omnichannel platform became the basis for an international strategy (US, Canada, Australia) that assessed several hundreds of thousands of homes to deliver 60M customized home energy reports (eHERs) by 2019. Several solar companies also used our technologies to support sell-through to their customers.

Of note, in 2017, Tendril won the Gold Edison Award in Energy Efficiency and remains one of North America’s top software providers in the electric and gas spaces, having touched millions of customers, dozens of utilities, and 5.3TwH of energy since its launch in 2012.

Zoola Inc.

Zoola connected merchant-funding cashback rewards with consumers through credit and debit card transactions. In collaboration with our CEO, we envisioned, built, and launched Zoola as a SaaS startup with data-driven offer logic that homed in on uniquely personalized marketing dedicated to increasing card purchases with our partner merchants.

Core to the program was our ability to take in and analyze big data sets to support customer relationships and increase participants’ card spends. I was instrumental in guiding the engineering, data integration, and decision logic. With our CEO, together we secured 6 figures of investment (sourced from individuals, venture capital investors, and family offices), capably leading strategies across finance, development, and program launch.

We successfully brought in hundreds of merchants and hundreds of thousands of consumers, creating a true B2B–B2CB ecosystem built on data analytics, data science, and customizable and highly targeted marketing strategies.

Beyond Analysis recognized that organizations the world over were facing similar obstacles: how to effectively engage clients at a time where consumer behavior was rapidly shifting and how to manage the increase in the volume, variety and velocity of customer data.

As a leading expert in commercial strategy, marketing, and analytics—specifically in developing and harnessing value-driven data analytics to energize business performance—I was tapped to build on the success of Beyond Analysis in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, and establish and scale its American operation.

As the Chief Executive Officer of the North American office and Global Head of Consulting, I introduced a robust strategy that fueled success of Beyond Analysis’ sales and marketing, operations, partnerships, and customer service. Leveraging sophisticated analytics technology and commercial understanding, I enabled companies in the US to uncover the patterns and opportunities locked within their raw data, translate them into value-driving customer relationships, and achieve up to triple-digit growth.

Prior to the AI/ML zeitgeist, my cofounder and I were true leaders in the application of data science to changing the way banks all over the world thought about marketing, customer acquisition, product development, and product launches.

Having built a body of expertise in marketing and sales analytics within two of the UK’s largest banking systems (see below), I shifted to management consulting. My co-founder and I built a global team of 70+ to serve 16 retail bank clients with presences in more than 30 countries across the globe, as well as MasterCard and Visa. Throughout my tenure, we delivered on 50+ projects, most centering on big data analyses for revenue acceleration in novel spaces within the banking industry.

We and our team consulted on strategy, data analysis, and more, working with our clients to innovate and develop novel products to bolster their financial product portfolios—and their sales. This pioneering approach within banking and finance and helped my clients succeed through the early adoption of analytics and resulting product development / commercialization.

Managing Partner / Co-Founder

Halifax Card Services

In 2005, while Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) was on the heels of three consecutive years of pacesetting performance, its senior leadership had the prescience to realize that the banking and credit sectors were at a turning point. Data was quickly becoming its most valuable currency, and it needed to innovate to widen the gap between itself and its competitors. HBOS recruited me for my analytics and business development experience to develop a vision for the future of banking, specifically its credit card business. 

As Chief Marketing Officer, I leaned into the challenge, envisioned and executed a multi-brand roadmap for one of the top retail banks in the UK (22M customers across 1600 branches), and led our 65-member team to deliver excellence in new customer acquisition, customer value management, new product development, and marketing services. I also formed and acted as the Vice Chair of the Card Operating Committee and served on the Personal Lending Risk Committee.

During my tenure, we attracted 1M+ new customers (in less than one year), generated $1.3B in total revenue, and achieved 800%+ MROI, while propelling customer experience from an underperformer to eclipsing UK’s Big 4 by 9%, per GfK. Additionally, I headed and completed a portfolio migration of 8M cards from Visa to Mastercard, which was the largest deal of its kind at the time.

Barclays Bank PLC

Two decades before AI and ML reshaped the specificity of marketing strategies in the banking industry and beyond, I managed direct mail in the Customer Value Group I formed for Barclaycard. I understood that that data we had was powerful, and even though the tools we had at the time (direct mail) were analog, the impact of the knowledge we developed through data analysis was world-changing. We redefined and reshaped customer engagement through capture and analysis of large data sets; our team subsequently won the SAS Enterprise Intelligence Award (2005) for new analytics technology. Experimentation, data analysis, and a vision for a future ideal state became the steel thread through my entire career.

As a foundation for my innovative work, I owned the P&L and led a team of 50 managing credit cards and loans in the UK market. Managing customers across direct-to-consumer, branch, and call centers, I led the strategy to add several hundreds of thousands in new credit card customers, driving the business to exceed ~5M users and $1B annual net income. Through my work, the bank launched several products, including new cards in 5 contact centers, and upskilled 1,600 representatives to achieve stellar sales goals.
