QBRs should be extinct

Every CSM knows this

Yet… here we are, scheduling another one.

This old 2015 tactic somehow stuck around and nobody's asking why.

Here's what a QBR actually became:
Performance theatre.

CSMs spend hours building slides nobody reads
Skimmed 5 minutes before the call (if you’re lucky)
Mid-management, no decision makers
Everyone nods, nothing changes

And we do this... quarterly?
The world moves in weeks, not quarters.

Your customer's priorities shifted twice since your last QBR.
Budget got cut.
Champion left.
Competitors in their ear.

But sure, let's wait 90 days to "review the partnership"

Can we be real for a sec? 

If you need a QBR to know how your account is doing, you've already lost.

You should know continuously.
You should have C-suite buy-in all the way through.
You should be in the conversation, not scheduling a formal one.

QBRs aren't strategy.
They're a crutch for teams that don't have real-time visibility.

Kill the QBR.
Build systems that keep you in sync constantly.

And I plan to keep it that way.

I learned more about CS, remote work, and AI in 6 months than 4 years of "figuring it out"

Your feed is a choice.
Curate it like your career depends on it.

Remote work isn't what they sold you.

And it's not what you expected either.

Influencers show you:
Infinity pools, sunset coworking, laptop on the beach.

"Freedom"
"Flexibility"
"Live anywhere"

So you took the remote job.
Or you went freelance.
Or you convinced your boss to let you work from home.

And now?

You're "free"
You're also lonely.

Nobody tells you about:
- Eating lunch alone. Again.
- Your friends assuming you're "always available"
- Explaining to family why this is a "real job"
- 11pm calls because your team's in another timezone

And the influencers posting this lifestyle?

Half of them aren't even working.
They're selling the dream to people who actually are.

Real remote work?

Messy.
Blurry boundaries.
Incredible freedom that sometimes feels like isolation.

I've done this for 5 years across 25+ countries.

Best decision I ever made.
Also harder than anyone prepared me for.

Both are true.

Remote work is worth it.
But anyone selling you the fantasy without the friction?

They're not working remotely.
They're selling remotely.

What's one thing you wish someone told you before going remote? 💙

I'd hire a gym rat over an MBA.

And it's not even close.

Saw Vanessa at ElevenLabs say something that stuck:
"Proof of excellence is non-negotiable"

Not credentials. 
Proof.

The best GTM pro I ever worked with?
Retired national athlete.
Consistent, coachable, never cracked under pressure.

I didn't know his background for months.
I just knew he was different.

CS is full of people who "love helping customers"
Cool. So does everyone applying.

What separates the great ones?

Evidence they've done hard things:
- Stuck with something for years
- Took feedback without ego
- Showed up when it stopped being fun

You can't fake discipline.
You can't shortcut consistency.

Next time you're hiring, stop asking "tell me about yourself"
Ask: "What's something you've worked on for years that most people quit?"

The answer tells you everything.

Acquisitions usually kill culture.

This one didn't.

6 months ago, Omnipresent got acquired by Deel.
No clue what to expect.

Losing teammates and culture?
Shuffled into a random team?
Starting over with a new manager, new clients, new everything?

To say I was worried is... an understatement

Here's what actually happened:

Speed.. Like.. Ridiculous speed.
(Deelers know exactly what I mean)

They move faster than any company I've seen.
Ship weekly, decide fast, no bureaucracy.
Have an idea? Pitch it and they ship 
Or just vibe-code and the AI team will publish (what?!)

I met some of the most talented people I've worked with
Got to work under leaders who actually lead (Naina, Marigona 💜 )
Moved into Deel's Enterprise Ops (genuinely the best team)

And today? The Big Deel 2026.
AI agents, native ATS, crypto pay, mobility across 100+ countries, SOLID Enterprise scalability (😉)...

Not roadmap promises.
Shipped.

Most acquisitions drain energy.
This one injected it.

6 months in, I'm still processing how different this has been.
