I Speak It Before I See It. A Job Search Prayer. 

Every day of my job search, I didn’t just send applications, I spoke my vision out loud.

I didn’t ask for any job.

I asked for alignment.

A place that honors my time, my energy, my boundaries so I can show up as my best self.

Leaders who lead with inspiration, not ego.

A team that values people before performance.

I asked for stability not survival.

For the freedom to care for my child without counting every dollar or losing sleep over bills.

I asked for growth. For recognition. For space to be seen, not just managed.

I prayed for real support, healthcare, security, and peace of mind not as perks, but as proof that people matter.

And I prayed for a role where I could bring all of me, my ideas, my voice, my authenticity without having to shrink to fit.

Most of all, I prayed for peace.

For joy.

For purpose.

For a place where I could thrive as a professional, a parent, and a person. If you’re still in that waiting season keep going.

Keep preparing.

Keep believing.

Because when the right door opens, it won’t just offer a paycheck. It’ll offer alignment.

If it costs you your mental health, it’s too expensive.
Read that again.

No job, title, or paycheck is worth losing yourself.

It’s better to choose peace of mind than:
• Bad bosses
• Long hours
• Bad clients
• A big salary
• Crazy deadlines
• Too many meetings
• Toxic workplace cultures
• A fancy job title with no freedom

I learned this the hard way. I once stayed in a job that slowly destroyed my mental health. By the time I left, the damage was already done. Years of anxiety.
Burnout I couldn’t “push through.”

Looking back?

Not worth it. Ever.

Because if you don’t have peace of mind, you don’t really have anything.
Your health is the foundation.
Your work should support your life, not consume it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about who we choose to celebrate.

Every year, we see the same lists:
“30 Under 30.”
“40 Under 40.”
“Top Young Innovators.”

And don’t get me wrong, those achievements are impressive. Ambition deserves recognition. But here’s what we don’t talk about enough:
- The professional who had to start over at 52 after being laid off.
- The founder who rebuilt after a failed business.
- The parent who paused their career for a decade and came back stronger.
- The 60-year-old who finally earned their degree.
- The 70-year-old who published their first book after a lifetime of living, loving, losing, and learning.

That’s success too.

Not the fast-track version.

Not the highlight-reel version.

But the resilient version.

We tend to glorify speed. But longevity requires something different:
• Endurance
• Humility
• Perspective
• Emotional strength
• The courage to begin again

There’s something powerful about people who didn’t “make it early”, but made it anyway.
The ones with calloused hands and tender hearts.
The ones who stayed when quitting would have been easier.
The ones who kept showing up long after the applause faded.

Maybe we need fewer age-based accolades and more stories about resilience.
Because success isn’t about when you arrive.

It’s about whether you keep going.

I’ll never forget the manager who gave me a chance when all I had to offer were two things:
a positive attitude and a desire to learn.

No fancy resume. No big titles.
Just curiosity, consistency, and drive.

I practice the same now, while recruiting I remind myself that my job isn’t just filling roles, it’s about recognizing potential.

– Blaming circumstances instead of owning mistakes
– Saying yes for approval
– Compromising values to fit in
– Letting emotions run the show
– Avoiding uncomfortable conversations
– Choosing pride over people
– Giving in when pressure shows up

High EQ IS:
– Admitting when you’re wrong
– Standing by decisions rooted in values
– Saying no, even when it’s uncomfortable
– Responding with intention, not impulse
– Leading with empathy, not ego
– Doing the right thing, even if you’re alone
– Regulating emotions to think clearly
– Speaking up when it actually matters
– Helping others grow, not just follow
– Staying true to yourself amid outside noise
– Truly hearing perspectives beyond your own

Here’s the thing:
Integrity isn’t tested when it’s easy.
It’s tested when it costs you something.

So when the pressure’s on, do your values stay the same?

Friday reminder. Don't be afraid to start again.

Working with people smarter than you
isn’t a threat.
It’s a shortcut.

The fastest growth in my career didn’t come from:
• Being the smartest in the room
• Having all the answers
• Protecting my ego

It came from:
• Asking better questions
• Listening more than talking
• Being okay with not knowing
If you’re always the smartest person around,
you might be in the wrong room.

Growth lives where your assumptions get challenged.
Who’s someone that made you level up just by being around them?

Loyalty didn’t die with Gen Z.

It died the moment “family” was sent a midnight layoff email, locked out of office laptop or suddenly office access key stopped working without notification.

Employee loyalty is dead.
And no, it's not Gen Z’s fault.

It’s because:

🔹 We celebrated 24/7 hustle and no safety net.
🔹 We promised “family,” then cut teams via email.
🔹 We asked for loyalty, but gave silence in return.
🔹 We promote as*&%s and call them leaders.

So let’s get honest:
People don’t leave companies.
They leave:
✔️ Leaders who hide behind titles
✔️ Workloads that break them
✔️ Cultures that reward politics over performance

If you want loyalty, earn it.

Here’s what actually keeps top performers:

👉 Transparency. Tell the truth, even when it’s hard.
👉 Accountability. Don’t just talk values - show it.
👉 Grit. Roll up your sleeves and grind wit them.
👉 Safety. Make hard conversations acceptable.
👉 Recognition. Credit their effort like it worth it.

Want people to stay?

Then show up in the trenches.
Not just on the all-hands Zoom.
Not just with a LinkedIn post.

But in the late nights. 
The pivots. 
The fires.

“Will you be my daddy… until I die?”

She was seven years old.
Sitting in a hospital bed.
Tubes in her nose.

And she asked a stranger,  a tattooed, intimidating-looking biker if he would pretend to be her father for however long she had left.

Mike was 58.
Tattoos down both arms.
The kind of man most kids are scared of at first glance.

Every Thursday, his motorcycle club volunteers at a children’s hospital, a tradition they started 15 years ago after one of their own experienced pediatric cancer in the family.

He’s read to dozens of sick kids.
But this time was different.
Her mother had left her at the hospital and never returned.

Halfway through a children’s book, she asked him if he had kids.
“I had a daughter,” he told her. “She passed away at sixteen.”
Then she asked quietly,
“Do you miss being a daddy?”
Every day.

She looked at him, far too wise for seven, and said she knew she was dying.
Then came the question:
“Will you be my daddy… until I die?”
He didn’t promise perfection.
He promised presence.
And just like that, he showed up.

The club rallied.
The hospital room filled with stuffed animals and laughter.
Thursdays became every day.

Six months passed.
Then nine.
Then a year.
Eighteen months later, she walked out of that hospital holding his hand.
Today she’s fifteen.
 
Cancer-free.

And she still calls him Daddy.

Every Thursday, they ride back to that same hospital, together to read to kids who are scared and hurting.

Here’s what she taught him:
• You don’t have to be perfect to show up.
• Love heals in ways medicine can’t explain.
• Sometimes the thing that feels like it will break you… rebuilds you instead.

He thought he was saving her.
But she saved him.

I was high-masking ADHD for most of my life, diagnosed well into adulthood.

I learned how to look “functional,” while constantly fighting how my brain actually works.
The real shift came when I stopped chasing who I should be and started working with my brain, not against it.

For those unfamiliar:
Neurodiversity recognises that brains naturally work in different ways, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and more.
Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference that can affect communication, sensory processing, and how people experience the world.
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) affects attention regulation, impulse control, and energy levels; often bringing creativity, hyperfocus, and unique problem-solving strengths alongside challenges.

This is why neurodiversity inclusion in the workplace matters.

Inclusion isn’t about lowering standards.
It’s about:
Rethinking rigid norms
Creating psychological safety

Valuing different ways of thinking and working

When people don’t have to mask, they don’t just survive, they thrive.
