Building the infrastructure for women in business.

I'm 38 and I decided a few years ago that I'm going to be unapologetically me and if people don't accept me for who I am or like me for my thoughts, then so be it. 

That said, I am enraged this morning. 

I am a natural community builder. It is in my DNA to bring people together. I love it and want everyone in the world to feel like they belong and are a part of something bigger. 

And when I see that a fund...  A FUND that doesn't necessarily invest in women, is creating a "community" for female founders to learn from experts, but doesn't invest in them....

I'm pissed TF off.

If you want to suss women out before investing in them, I'd respect you 100x more if you just said it out loud. Just put it in writing and own it. 

The portfolio is mainly male-dominated teams... so it's screaming "check the box" for diversity. 

But also, let's not invest in them.. let's just give them a space to be together and make it seem like we care. Erm...

I created Theanna and am dedicating my professional career to help women win in business and things like this just add more fucking fuel to my fire. 

Jsut pour the gasoline on my energy right now, please, because I am so sick and tired of this shit. 

And if you come at me in the comments with "give them the benefit of the doubt" - I did. And decided that a male GP posting about a female founders circle is so f'ing tacky that I decided they didn't deserve it. 

Especially when they call out how we RETURN MORE INVESTMENTS in said post but they ARE NOT INVESTING IN THESE WOMEN.

I finally hit $15K MRR this morning

Frankly, if it weren't for mistakes I made back in July, I would have gotten here much faster. 

But, they say startups aren't for the weak and here I am still standing after learning A LOT from my mistakes. 

Since then we have pushed 3 major growth experiments. And now we're ready to go again with a 4th. 

Here's what we learned:

Test 1: Annual subscription to 12-week program
→ 4.38x ROAS and $60K earned revenue with 44 net new customers.
→ $10k spend and 4 different funnel tests to get here
→ Great results, but extremely high effort and not repeatable MoM

Test 2: Free trial
→ $1k spend on free trial to get people in the door
→ immediate return with 3 customers (1 annual, 2 monthly) but very low volume

Test 3: Quarterly sub to lower lift program
→ $3.5K spend on ads to workshop (not interviews)
→ $4.1k immediate return with 3x multiple based on 9 month retention
→ Works great but want to experiment with even lower lift

So here's what I'm asking myself in February:
→ What will drive 1,000 leads to a 10% CVR?
→ What is engaging, doesn't scream "software" and improves adoption?
→ How do we leverage community + software + expertise in one go
→ How do I build something I can also participate in?

My test conclusion: A growth challenge. 

Everyone wants paying customers, including me. 
I'm working on a challenge that puts the community together to push boundaries. 
How can we focus on distribution in a variety of tests to get our customers?
What's working, what's not working?

The experiment is what I've been experimenting myself all along. 
But with the community. 

Question is: 
How badly do YOU want customers?
Are you willing to join a group to push yourself?
Are you ready to be "cringe" to find out what works??

Unless I've done it, I won't give you all the advice on how to do it. 

I've been in tech 15 years and founders I've worked for have raised over $220 million dollars. 

THE FOUNDERS I WORKED FOR DID THIS. Not me. 

So I don't sit here giving founders advice on how to raise their rounds. 

I follow the experts who have done it. I listen and I learn. 

I'm a big believer in taking advice from people who have been in your shoes and walked the path you want to walk. 

Not just because they know it inside out...

But because they know how you FEEL in this process. 

No one can understand how a founder feels in the most stressful moments, unless they've been there.

Jess Lynch - incredible founder, data-driven, master of metrics, and true get shit done type of person. She exited her tech company and now invests in founders. She has done both and is an excellent human. FOLLOW HER. 

Emily (Hochman) Mueller - awesome founder, raised millions, exited her platform, believes investors with operator experience are the bees knees (I agree). She is educating founders on all of this on her TikTok. FOLLOW HER.

If you aren't experimenting with your startup every week, how are you surviving?

I'm genuinely asking because if you aren't tracking down to the decimal what you've done, what worked, what didn't work, how are you making decisions?

Is it based on your instincts only? Is it based on a presumed pattern?

I have OCD, so I can't live that way. I'd actually lose my hair. 

So I run experiments every month, track my data, and use it to be better > to grow revenue. 

Here's the framework I follow:
→ Create a simple Excel list of test ideas 
→ For each test, write down your hypothesis and execution plan 
→ Prioritize them in sequence 
→ Run one test per week (or every 2 weeks, depending on complexity)

Reality check: Not all tests win.

But here's what testing does for you:
✓ Keeps you moving fast 
✓ Helps you serve your customers better 
✓ Gives you momentum (which fuels motivation) 
✓ Prevents burnout by replacing the endless grind with purposeful experimentation

It works - my company is growing month over month, and I've learned so much about what works for my customer and doesn't work through these tests. 

I don't want to be on a hamster wheel, and neither do the Theanna founders. 

So here's what we're doing in Theanna:

Every month, we host retrospectives where founders review their tests together, share what worked (and what didn't), and map out next moves as a group.

Our first January Retrospective is on February 3rd, and we'll be using a template spreadsheet to guide our conversations.
