Hi! I'm Chief Evangelist at Demandbase and primarily focused on the marketing persona. Jay Tuel is my stepbrother-in-crime giving most of his TLC to the sales persona (yes, we have two Chief Evangelists...gasp!). I study all things go-to-market to help sales and marketing leaders be more successful in their pursuit of revenue.

52 of the smartest revenue leaders in the world joined me on the OnBase podcast by Demandbase last year to share what's working in today's challenging environment (it's always challenging though, right?).

In 52 weeks in 2025, I hosted 51 podcasts with 52 GTM leaders. I wish I would have done one more to make it a clean 52, but we took a few vacations. 🙃 

Here are my 5 biggest takeaways from these 50+ hours of insights:

1️⃣  Alignment is an operating model, not a meeting
We spend too much time syncing calendars and not enough time syncing KPIs. Alignment breaks the second sales, marketing, and finance optimize for different outcomes. If you don't have clear ownership across the account lifecycle, you’ll never remove the friction.

2️⃣  Systems scale, individuals don't
Pipeline predictability comes from repeatable systems, not individual heroics. Outlier performance might save your quarter, but it won’t create forecast accuracy. Manage the behavior and the repeatable inputs, and the outcomes will follow.

3️⃣  Personalization is cheap, relevance is rare
AI-driven personalization without context feels hollow. True relevance comes from understanding the specific pressure your buyer is under, not just their LinkedIn profile. Usually, timing matters even more than the message itself.

4️⃣  AI multiplies your existing maturity (or lack thereof)
AI won't fix a broken process. It will only multiply it. Clean data is no longer an "optimization" ot "get to it later" project. It is a prerequisite for any agentic AI to work. Use AI as an amplifier, not a crutch. Solve for efficiency, but focus on making strategic execution better.

5️⃣  Funnels are collapsing
The linear funnel is dead. Buyers are self-educating long before they ever talk to your sales team. In this environment, your brand acts as a revenue filter. Trust is what determines if you even make the shortlist. Our differentiation is going to revolve more on the WHOLE person and not just what's in your brain. AI is going to solve for tons of the knowledge we possess and buyers will only work with people they trust.

Success in 2026 isn't about a new tool or trend or acronym. It’s about great humans collaborating, tech that's aligned to their strategies (especially all AI applications), high-integrity data, and radical alignment.
