Open Robotics

At Open Robotics, I was the "ROS Boss" of the Humble (LTS) release of ROS 2. This involved extensive collaboration with various stakeholders and the development of new infrastructure to streamline the release process.

To address a need in the testing process, I designed and implemented a Test Case Manager tool in Typescript. This tool automates the creation of test cases for different platform permutations and has been employed in several key releases, including ROS 2 Humble, ROS 2 Iron, and Gazebo Garden.

In addition to these responsibilities, I worked on various other projects that required a wide range of technical skills. These included debugging multithreaded executor issues, designing C++ client library features for Nvidia, contributing to NASA's VIPER mission, and integrating different UAV frameworks under a common API.

Robohub

As the Podcast Director at Robohub, I managed an international team and conducted over 100 interviews with key figures in the robotics field. The variety of our interviewees, from academics to industry leaders, allowed us to present a comprehensive view of the sector.

I led the team in expanding our podcast's monthly listenership from 2k to 120k and secured $20k in academic sponsorships. This growth and financial support helped to sustain our operations and extend our reach.

During my tenure, we produced and released 160 podcast episodes. This consistent output, combined with our increased listenership and financial support, illustrates my focus on steady growth and commitment to sharing knowledge in the robotics community.

Postdoctoral Researcher

I  was the main organizer for the workshop "Behavior Trees for Robotics Systems: Tools, Applications, and Lessons Learned" in the context of the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), one of the largest and highest impact robotics research conferences worldwide.

It was the first behavior tree-related workshop within the robotics community. We gather six invited speakers, several oral presenters, and over 70 attendees.

I was involved in the SARAFun project to enable a non-expert user to integrate a new bi-manual assembly task on a robot in less than a day.

During my Ph. D. I addressed the following question: ’How can the robot deliberation in dynamic and unpredictable environments benefit from the task representation language?’. The question arises from the fact that manual design and automated planning techniques represent the most used approaches in robots autonomy and they both rely on the chosen task representation language.  In this setting, I identified Behavior Trees , widely adopted in the video game industry, as an innovatory task representation language for robot deliberation and I analyzed their main advantages.

I am a Senior Robot Behavior Developer, responsible for integrating different robot's skills to make robot behave.
I was a Researcher at the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS) with the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), working in Dr. Lorenzo Natale‘s group. 
I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science, with a specialization in Robotics, from KTH, Sweden. My advisor was Prof. Petter Ögren. In January-June 2016 I was a visiting scholar at Control and Dynamical System of Caltech, supervised by Prof. Richard Murray. My principal interests lie in Control Architectures for Safe and Robust systems and  Automated Planning, with direct applications on robotics platforms.

My research aims to address the question: ’How can the robot deliberation in dynamic and unpredictable environments benefit from the task representation language?’. The question arises from the fact that manual design and automated planning techniques represent the most used approaches in robot autonomy and they both rely on the chosen task representation language. My past research has helped to answer this question by investigating alternative task representation languages. The main advantages of BTs lie in their modular structure and reactive execution that enable the designer to shape complex robotics behavior by aggregating simpler ones
