If you're buying a car in India above ₹10 lakh, here's something most people don't realize:

The dealer collects 1% TCS (Tax Collected at Source) on your behalf and deposits it with the government. This isn't an extra charge—it's your money, already linked to your PAN, and you can claim it back when you file your taxes.

Here's how much we're talking about:
* ₹10 lakh car → ₹10,000 TCS collected
* ₹30 lakh SUV → ₹30,000 TCS collected

How to claim it back:

Get Form 27D from your dealer right after purchase—this is your proof of TCS payment

Check Form 26AS before filing your ITR to confirm the TCS amount is reflected

Today I accompanied a senior banker to a bank to sort out a situation for a client.

Here are things that were different. 

Asking for the "best rate" triggers their safety script. You get the most profitable number as a standard policy.

Every rate sits within a negotiable band. 
But that one word kills your leverage before you start.

He use questions that really made decision making easy.

What rate did your last client with my profile get?
→ This locks them into approved numbers. 
→ No theories. No policy talk. 
→ Just what's already been done.

What's the discretionary range you can adjust without manager approval?
→ Every banker has one. Usually 0.2% to 0.4%. 
→ When you say "discretionary," they know you understand the system.

What fee would you remove if you were me?
→ This flips the conversation. 
→ They stop defending policy.
→ And start defending conscience.

I witnessed the Bank delete phantom "processing" or "documentation" fees that exist only to test who's paying attention.

This visit taught me lessons I'll never forget.
