"Be authentic" has become the most inauthentic advice on the Linkedin.

Because what people actually mean when they say it is:

Be vulnerable in a way that makes you look self-aware.
Share struggles that already have a resolution.
Admit flaws that are secretly humble brags.

That's not authenticity. 

Real authenticity looks like this:

→ Saying "I don't know" in a room where you're supposed to be the expert
→ Sharing an opinion you know will lose you followers
→ Admitting a failure that doesn't have a tidy lesson yet
→ Not posting because you have nothing worth saying that week

Performed authenticity looks like this:

→ "I almost quit. Then I hit $1M. Here's what I learned"
→ Emotional confessions timed to a product launch
→ "Controversial opinion:" followed by something everyone agrees with
→ Humility that always circles back to your achievements

Performed authenticity always makes the person look good in the end.

Real authenticity is uncomfortable for the writer and the reader.

Most of us (myself included) perform authenticity more than we practice it. That's okay. But let's stop calling it something it isn't.

The best communicators aren't the most "authentic." They're the most honest and those are very different things.

What's one thing you've been performing instead of saying plainly?

Chasing outcomes has always let me down.

Not because I fail but because the second I set a goal, my brain raises the bar of expectation.

So when reality doesn't match the outcome i made in in my head.

I tell myself it's not worth it. Stop putting in effort.

I had to learn this the hard way: 

your mindset is either your biggest asset or your biggest obstacle when you're trying to build something real.

If you're constantly attached to a specific outcome, you're setting yourself up to quit.

 Because outcomes are unpredictable. 

The algorithm changes. The potential client ghosts. The post flops.

But the process that's what you control.

I started asking myself: "Am I showing up consistently?".

And honestly that's when things started actually working.

The leads came. The engagement grew. The opportunities showed up. 

But only because I stopped obsessing over them and started focusing on what I could actually control the work itself.

P.S. If you're building a personal brand or trying to grow your business, this is the shift that changes everything. Stop obsessing over the outcome.
