As a Wealth Analyst at Usefulideas, I helped individuals strategically plan and optimize their savings, income, and investments through in-depth analysis of their cash flow, income tax position, net worth, personal/business protection, risk profile, asset allocation, retirement planning, wills, and power of attorneys.

I examined clients' immediate and long-term financial goals and counseled financial advisors on suitable investment allocations for their clients. Additionally, I advised on the timing of major expenditures, such as purchasing a home or starting retirement.

I've spent years building and leading founder communities online...always with a bit of sparkle and magic. I love connecting, whether it's talking to strangers in the grocery store, introducing two community members around a specific why, or hosting a sweet gathering. 💐

🎤 I’ve designed and hosted 500+ events, spoken on 50+ stages (virtual and in-person), and been featured on 40+ podcasts. I've also hosted 3 podcasts!

⭐️ My career began by working alongside best-selling author and marketing leader, Seth Godin. I designed and facilitated magical online workshops/digital conferences and built powerful community-based marketing initiatives for Seth's brand and altMBA/Akimbo (a network of 25k+ entrepreneurs and leaders at Fortune 500 companies).

🪩 Then, I joined Groove, a venture-backed start-up and digital coworking app, as the first full-time hire, building community from the beta pre-seed stage, to seed stage, to launching into a paid membership community with a mission to help entrepreneurs and creatives thrive together.

🦄 Today, I'm the Head of Community @ Dreamers & Doers, a highly curated network that amplifies extraordinary women entrepreneurs and leaders. Think of it as a VIP lounge for heart-centered women building businesses they care deeply about…with glitter walls and confetti raining down. I also run my own business and am available for community consulting, workshop/event design, and facilitation. I'm a proud Strategic Advisory Board Member for NYU Stern's Initiative on Purpose and Flourishing.

This is what my morning looks like hosting an event for 100+ women entrepreneurs in NYC...

I'm a big believer in dialing up the level of care put into a gathering. I LOVE when things feel and look homemade. 

Which is why I always handwrite name tags. 

Yes, all 105 of them...while listening to Kacey Musgraves and sipping on iced coffee...which I later spilled, but hey, no name tags were harmed in the process! 🖊️ 

Pro tip for my fellow event hosts 👀 Adding colored dots to name tags can be a HUGE help in creating conversation. It makes it easy for attendees to find others like them and sparks curiosity for those with different dots. 

For example...tonight...
💜 Those with a purple dot are Dreamers & Doers® members
💚 Friends of members have a green dot
💛 Friends of Gesche Haas' have a yellow dot
🩷 And, friends of mine have a pink dot

Dots make life wayyy easier for me as the host to quickly glance and say, "So how do you know Gesche?" or "Remind me, which member are you friends with?" 💞 

They also help non-members identify who is a member, in case they're curious about exploring membership and have a question. 

I always put the dots for Dreamers & Doers members on one side of the name tag to make it even easier at a quick glance to know who is a member. 

Of course, dots can be used for all sorts of reasons! Just don't forget to tell guests what the heck the colors mean so they can actually benefit from this.

If life isn't feeling in sync with your values, here are my two cents as a Gen-Zer ⬇️

Last spring, I was sitting in a small room at NYU Stern School of Business, listening to Jonathan Haidt talk about The Anxious Generation, and I had to raise my hand. 🙋🏻‍♀️

He had just shared a number of interesting stats about my generation. 

After, everyone was invited to chime in and share how this work relates to our role as part of the NYU Stern |  Initiative on Purpose and Flourishing.

As one of the only Gen-Zers in the room, I felt compelled to share. 🙋🏻‍♀️

“My friend, Janel Abrahami,” I said, “has built a business around people—specifically millennials—who have been told they’re ‘going places’ from a young age. Based on the people I’ve met in this room today, I imagine many of us were told some version of: You’re going places. You’re going to be something.

But at some point—after the impressive job, new title, award, recognition—we started to wonder… where the hell are we going? And to answer that question, we had to dig deep to name what our purpose actually is, so that we can flourish.”

I’d argue a lot of us were in that room *because* we share a story like that. We want fewer people to have to jump through the hoops we had to get to the learnings we did. 

When Janel talks about this, she often references a breaking point—or a lifequake (a term I learned from a podcast recording with Dr. Carlos Saba)—that forces a “going places” person to question everything.

Maybe it’s burnout. A layoff. Loss. A diagnosis. Lifequakes take all shapes and sizes. It could happen at age 20 or 55.

This tends to show up most clearly for self-proclaimed high-achievers, but the pressure to live up to an inherited idea of success is, of course, much broader than that. 

As I shared in that room at NYU, “Our work here—as board members and as attendees of this convening—is to help more people, no matter their generation, start asking these questions before their lifequake hits. So when it inevitably does, they have tools, and maybe they’ve already begun making choices more in sync with who they are.”

As I prep for this year's convening at NYU, I came across this pic again (thanks Jordan Bowman for taking it) and didn't want these ideas to live only in that room...
 
If you’re at a moment right now, where you feel this itch, something about where you’re heading doesn’t feel in sync with who you really are, I know that feeling. Don’t wait for the lifequake (or another lifequake!) to make a change. 💥
