Five years ago, I cancelled my wedding.
For years, I didn’t talk about it.
Because cancelling a wedding feels like a failure.

Hotel paid.
Dress bought.
Santorini shoot booked.
Everything looked perfect.

A day before our flight, my ex fell sick.

As if the Universe is trying to tell me something.. 
Not long after… we both decided to cancel the wedding.

I said, “It didn’t work out.”

What I didn’t say?
I was terrified of being alone.

And that fear revealed something uncomfortable
I had outsourced my worth to someone else. 

For the longest time, I believed love meant:
 • Someone completing me
 • Someone providing security
 • Someone making me feel worthy

Because I didn’t yet know how to choose myself.

Calling off the wedding broke my heart. 💔
But it also broke a pattern.
The pattern of:
 • Seeking validation externally
 • Equating titles with security
 • Shrinking to be accepted

And slowly… I met myself.

Not the confident person you see today.

But the scared version.

The little girl who thought being single meant being unwanted.

Over the past five years, I learned to:
✓ Stop chasing validation
✓ Become my own best companion
✓ Build emotional security from within
✓ Sit with discomfort instead of escaping it
✓ Create a life that feels aligned not approved

And something shifted.

I stop proving my worth 
I start being my own best friend 
I became the kind of woman I would be proud to date. 

At 37, I am single.
Not waiting.
Not lacking.
Not behind.

Whole.

And this feeling of wholeness is : 
- Coming home to myself.
- No longer outsourcing my worth.
- Trusting that the right people and opportunities will meet me at my frequency.

This post isn’t anti-marriage.
Nor is it anti-men.

It’s an invitation for all of us
to choose ourselves fully, courageously, unapologetically.

I hesitated sharing this on LinkedIn.
It felt personal. Vulnerable. Unconventional.

But I believe more women need to hear this

Waiting for permission to speak.

I see many new friends here recently…
so let me properly introduce myself.

Hello, I’m Ratna.

20 years ago,
I couldn’t speak English confidently.
I was terrified of the stage.

Today?

I get paid to speak and help women find and own their voice.

But this journey didn’t start with confidence.
It started with fear.

I moved from Indonesia to Singapore.
English wasn’t my first language.
Speaking up felt intimidating.

In university, I was barely passing.
For years, I believed I wasn’t good enough.

After graduation, I worked as a Marketing Executive at a training & consulting firm.

Sounds safe…
until I realised presenting was part of the job.

My first presentation was at Suntec Convention Centre, in front of 150 pax was terrifying.

Because I had public speaking trauma.

I failed my English oral exam during my primary school

I stood frozen in front of my class, couldn’t say a single word.

That moment followed me for years.

Because trauma doesn’t just live in memory.
It lives in the nervous system.

5 years ago, I made one of the bold decisions of my life.

I left my 9–5 job to recover from burnout without knowing what came next.

I only knew I wanted to live in alignment with my values, energy, and the person I was becoming.

So I started my training business.

Messy. Uncertain. Scary.

I began writing on LinkedIn not to build a personal brand, but simply to find clients.

Then my posts gained traction.
Some went viral.

And instead of excitement?
I felt overexposed.

Because years earlier, I had been told my writing wasn’t good enough.

Visibility forced me to confront every limiting belief I had

That’s when I realised:

👉 Success isn’t limited by strategy.
It’s limited by what your nervous system believes is safe.

You don’t rise to your goals.
You rise to what you feel safe receiving.

Everything shifted when I stopped trying to be fearless and started creating safety within myself.

Today, this journey has taken me from:

✨ Zero clients → speaking to 1,000 people
✨ Zero revenue → building a multi six-figure business
✨ 2,000 → 36,000 incredible humans here

And 90% of my business comes from showing up authentically online.

But here’s the most important part.

I didn’t start sharing because everything worked out.
I started sharing when things were messy and uncertain.

Because many brilliant women are 
still hesitating
still questioning if their voice matters

That is why I created #GiveToGrow 
a safe space where women give themselves and each other permission to share their stories.

Permission to be seen.
Permission to take up space.

Because when one woman finds her voice,
she gives permission for another to rise.

I’ve spent a decade working with women.

And one pattern keeps breaking my heart.

So many brilliant women are still holding back their voice.

Over the years I realised something heartbreaking.

The real ceiling holding many women back today is not talent.

It’s visibility.

So many incredible women are doing meaningful work…

but the world cannot support what it cannot see.

For the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with women.

🌸 Volunteering in women organisations.
🌼 Running mentorship programmes in corporates.
🌸 Facilitating conversations to help women step into their voice and power.
🌼 Creating spaces where women can grow, support, and uplift each other.

And yet, the same pattern keeps showing up.

So many incredible women still hesitate to be seen.

A few weeks ago, during my morning visualisation, I felt a gentle nudge:

“Run a LinkedIn challenge for women.”

The only problem?

It was 10 days before IWD.

My little human mind immediately started negotiating:

🙅🏻‍♀️Not enough time.
🙅🏻‍♀️Too rushed.
🙅🏻‍♀️Maybe next year.

But something inside me knew — it was time to 
Create a space where women could use their voice for impact.

Not a perfect plan.
Just a simple intention:

So I listened.

And I’m so glad I did. ✨

What unfolded over the past week was beautiful.

Women from different backgrounds showed up — not just for a challenge.

But for something deeper.

♥️ Courage to speak their truth.
💛 Community to support one another.
💜 Connection through shared stories and experiences.

Some of the stories shared moved me to tears.

Because courage is contagious.

When one woman speaks, another finds the courage to do the same.

And something interesting happened on my side too.

Since starting this challenge a week ago:

• 3 sales calls booked
• 2 workshops currently 80% closed
• 2 women mentorship trainings confirmed 
• Enquiry to speak at one of the largest sales conferences 

It reminded me of something I deeply believe:

Visibility creates opportunities.

Not because we chase attention.

But because when we show up with authenticity and generosity, the right people can finally see us.

That is the spirit of #GiveToGain.

When we give from the heart, we receive so much more in return:
✨ Deeper connections
✨ A supportive community
✨ The courage to keep showing up

Today I’m celebrating this moment.

Not just for myself.

But for every woman who chose courage over comfort and visibility over perfection.

Your voice matters.

Chinese New Year in Indonesia used to be a quiet celebration, but it feels different now. 🍊🍊

Not because the decorations are bigger.
Not because the malls are louder.

But because once upon a time…
It wasn’t celebrated openly.
When lion dances were silenced.
When red decorations stayed hidden.
When being visibly Chinese felt… complicated.

Today?

🧧 The drums are loud.
❤️ Red outfits everywhere.
🍊 Reunion dinners filled with laughter.
🦁 The lion dance moves through malls and streets.

And every time I witness this, my heart feels something deeper than joy.

Not just because it’s festive.
But because it’s freedom.

It’s progress you can hear in the drums.
It’s healing you can see in the colours.
It’s identity no longer hidden but celebrated.

It’s the 4th day of CNY…
And I’m still on break. 🤭

Younger me would have rushed back to work.
Prove productivity.
Chase the next milestone.

But today?

I choose : 
♥️ Rest without guilt 
♥️ Presence over pressure.
♥️ To sit a little longer at the dinner table.
♥️ To really listen when my parents tell the same old stories

Working on my own terms is something I never take for granted.
Because I know what it means to not have that choice.

This CNY, I’m not just celebrating prosperity.
I’m celebrating freedom — culturally, personally, professionally.

And that… is the real blessing. 🧧✨

Even after hundreds of stages…
I still get nervous every single time 

I’m still buzzing from the energy of the UOB Womenpreneur Networking Event, a full house of incredible female entrepreneurs gathered under one roof.

And honestly?
I barely slept the night before.

A mix of excitement… gratitude… and that familiar anxiety and imposter syndrome that still visits me before every stage. 😂

The session started with Paul Kan 简毅辉 warmly welcoming the community — setting the tone for connection and conversations.

He shared the beautiful Chinese proverb from the UOB Hongbao artwork 
根深叶茂 — deep roots, lush leaves.

A reminder that real growth doesn’t start by reaching higher.
It starts by growing deeper roots. 

In a world obsessed with speed and visibility, 
it reminds me that sustainable success is built on foundations : 
- Trust
- Relationships
- Ecosystems cultivated over time.

Then Janet Young spoke with so much passion and conviction about : 
✨ Women don’t lack ambition. They lack access.
🔹Access to networks.
🔹Access to capital.
🔹Access to the right conversations at the right time.

That’s why UOB creates those pathways. 

Tjin Lee generously shared M.A.G.N.E.T Roadmap of what it truly takes to Build a Magnetic Brand, one that attracts opportunities instead of chasing them.

I shared The Inner Blueprint of Becoming a Woman Founder and Leader - The work behind visibility, the courage behind confidence, and why sometimes the biggest barrier isn’t capability…

It’s a nervous system trying to keep us safe in familiarity.

And yes… I got everyone to stand up and do a power pose together 💪😄

One of my favourite moments was facilitating a meaningful fireside conversation with Monica Bhatia (Kapur) on Building a Powerful and Authentic online presence in today’s noisy digital world.

Because our personal brand isn’t separate from our business.
It’s often the first doorway people walk through before trust begins.

There were so many insights throughout the evening, but here’s what stayed with me:
✨ Stop playing small
 → Your gifts create impact only when you have the courage to share them.

✨ Think big. Start small. Move with speed.
 → Clarity comes from action, not perfection.

✨ Visibility is not vanity. It is responsibility.
 → When you rise, you expand what feels possible for others.

Women in business are not just building companies.
We are building ecosystems where more people get to grow.

If there is one woman who changed my life, it would be my mom.

She may never describe herself as extraordinary.
But to me, she is the definition of strength.

My mom grew up with very little.

No formal education.
She faced bullying when she was young.
And yet, she worked incredibly hard to support the family.

Together with my dad and his small business, they worked tirelessly to fund my education in Singapore.

My parents worked triple hard so that I could have opportunities they never had.

Because of her, I had the courage to dream bigger.

But growing up with a tiger mom 🐯 was not easy.

She expected nothing less than excellence.

If I failed at something, the pressure felt unbearable.
Sometimes, before she could scold me, I had already beaten myself up inside.

That was when a quiet voice started to grow inside me:

“I’m not good enough.”

For years, that voice followed me.

It took a lot of inner work, mindfulness, and patience to rewrite that story.

Along the way, I learned to:

🌻 Be kind to myself
🌻 Practice self-compassion
🌻 Become my own biggest advocate

Looking back now, I understand her differently.

When I first started my own business, she would often ask me:

“Are you earning enough to live in Singapore?”

Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world.

At that time, I thought she was questioning my ability.

But she wasn’t.

She was worried.

Worried if I could survive here.
Worried if I could build a life for myself.

Because she knew how hard entrepreneurship could be.

When my dad ran his business, times were tough.
She had lived through that uncertainty and worked tirelessly to support the family.

She simply didn’t want me to struggle the way she did.

Her worries came from love.

Recently, I was invited to speak at Prudential Indonesia.

And for the first time, my mom was sitting in the audience.

As I stood on that stage, I couldn’t help but think about all the sacrifices she made quietly behind the scenes.

How far we had come —
from a small family struggling to make ends meet,
to a moment where she could watch her daughter speak on a stage.

I thought about the dreams she put aside
so her children could have a better future.

And in that moment, I felt deeply grateful 🙏

I hope I made you proud, Ma.

If I am who I am today, it is because she believed in a future for me long before I could see it for myself.

Happy International Women’s Day to the woman who shaped my life.

Posting on LinkedIn is beyond just strategy.

It’s about expanding our nervous system’s capacity to feel safe being seen in your full power. ⚡️

And that can feel terrifying.

Not because you don’t know what to say.
But because visibility asks you to outgrow the version of you that stayed small to be accepted.

Before I shared my recent post,
I contemplated it for days.

And the night after posting?
I couldn’t sleep.

My mind was thinking 101 reasons not to post : 
“What will people think?”
“Was this too much?”
“Did I overshare?”

But that post was never about attention.
And definitely not sympathy.

It was about releasing shame I was quietly carrying.
Giving myself permission to stop hiding parts of my story.

And something beautiful happened.

Friends.
Strangers.
Women I’ve never met.

They reached out privately to say,
“I thought I was the only one.”

Honestly I cried reading so many outpouring messages. 

When one woman expresses herself honestly,
she unconsciously gives others permission to do the same.

Self-expression is liberating. 

And many women are not lacking confidence.
They’re lacking safe spaces to be seen without judgment.

That’s why, in celebration of International Women’s Day, I’m hosting a 5-Day LinkedIn Challenge - a gentle, safe container for women who want to use their voice for impact.

One of my participants shared this with me during one of my classes.

She told her kids that she would be meeting “that lady on my mood board.”
And her child asked innocently,

“Really… you can touch her?” 😂

Everyone laughed.

But quietly, that moment stayed with me.

Because moments like this remind me why my VOICE matters.

Someone you may not even realise…
is quietly watching your journey.
Drawing courage from your growth.
Believing their future is possible simply because you chose to show up.

And it reminded me again:

✨ Our voice is never just about us.
✨ Our stories travel further than we think.
✨ Visibility creates permission for others.

You never know who needs to hear your story today.

Honestly, reading so many women stepping forward and sharing their voices and show up  authentically was deeply moving. 

Because #GiveToGrow is beyond just a LinkedIn challenge.

It is a commitment.
A quiet decision.
A permission they finally give themselves 

👉 to stop hiding
👉 to own their story
👉 to show up for themselves

And that is powerful. 💪🏻

Because when we show up…
We unknowingly makes it safer for another to rise too.

So here’s how we can use our VOICE for good:

V — Vulnerability
→ Share the real story. Not just the wins, but the becoming.

O — Ownership
→ Own your journey. Your background. Your scars. Your growth.

I — Intention
→ Post with purpose. Not for validation, but for impact.

C — Courage
→ Show up even when your nervous system whispers, “hide.”

E — Energy
→ The energy behind your words matters.
People don’t just feel what you say —
they feel who you are when you say it.

Keep sharing.

Your voice carries more energy, impact, and permission than you realise. ♥️

P.S. What’s one moment that reminded you your voice matters?

The biggest visibility problem women face isn’t confidence.
It’s FEAR hiding behind HUMILITY.

After coaching so many women on personal branding 

I see the same 3 things holding brilliant women back.

Not because they lack capability and intelligence.

It’s FEAR. 

And I believe it starts much earlier than we realise.

Since young, I have been told to be a GOOD GIRL.

The good girl syndrome sounds like this:
I have to behave → so I will be rewarded
I have to be agreeable → so I will be accepted
I have to stay humble → so I won’t be judged
I have to play small → so others feel comfortable

But here’s the problem.
Being a good girl keeps us safe…
but it also keeps us invisible.

And invisibility often shows up in 3 fears I see again and again.

Fear #1️⃣ — Fear of Failure
“What if I post and nobody cares?”
 “What if I sound stupid?”
 “What if people think I’m not good enough?”

So instead of risking failure…
→ many women choose silence.

Fear #2️⃣ — Fear of Judgement
“What will people think?”
“My boss is on LinkedIn.”
“People will think I’m showing off.”

So we dilute our voice.
Downplay our achievements.
→ many women choose safety over visibility.

Fear #3️⃣ — Fear of Expansion
This one nobody talks about. 

Because visibility expands your life.

More opportunities.
More influence.
More responsibility.

But the real question is:

Is your nervous system ready to hold that level of expansion?

Here’s what has helped me and many of the women I coach:

✳️ Reframe the Narrative
Visibility is not about attention.
→ It’s about contribution.

The moment you shift from
 “Will people judge me?” → “Who might this help?”

Everything changes.

✳️ Change Your Physiology
Fear lives in the body.

Before I step on stage or feel unsafe, I paused. 
Breathe.
Stand taller.
Practice my Power Pose.

Confidence is all about state management.

✳️ Regulate Your Nervous System
Visibility can trigger our survival system.
The brain interprets “being seen” as risk.

But the more you show up, the more your nervous system learns:

People don’t respond to what you say. They respond to who you are when you say it.

7️⃣ Abundance is not a mindset. It’s a decision.
And your brand will always reflect the decision you’ve made.

This is why most people are stuck.

They are trying to build a brand…
without becoming the person the brand is meant to represent.

When you give, you often receive so much more.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of facilitating an International Women’s Day mentorship panel for a global manufacturing client.

We have facilitated this initiative for the past 2 years, supporting women across the organisation to grow, connect, and step into their potential.

And honestly…
I didn’t quite expect how emotional the session would become.

At one point, I had to quietly reach for a few tissues while moderating the panel. 🤧

Because what unfolded was not just a panel discussion.

It was real transformation.

My heart expanded as I listened to the stories.

⭐️ One mentee shared how the mentorship gave her the courage to step up and she has since been promoted to a Team Leader.

⭐️ Another spoke about finally believing in her voice and stepping into opportunities she once hesitated to pursue.

⭐️ The most beautiful moment —
former mentees returning as mentors, paying it forward and lifting the next generation.

Moments like these remind me why mentorship matters so deeply.

And the mentorship impact survey reflects it too:

✨ 71% of participants achieved their mentorship goals
✨ 86% reported a boost in self-confidence
✨ 71% attributed personal growth and career advancement to the mentorship experience
✨ 79% rated their mentor–mentee relationship highly
✨ 100% would recommend the program to others

Looking deeper into the tangible outcomes, participants shared that they:

* Gained new skills and knowledge
* Achieved better work-life balance
* Expanded their professional networks
* Secured promotions or role changes

But beyond the numbers, what stayed with me most was the human impact.
