If your profile visits are only from colleagues, you’re building internal visibility. That’s good.

But if your profile visits are from recruiters, industry leaders, and potential clients? You’re building Career Autonomy.

The difference?

Internal visibility keeps you employed.

External visibility gives you options.


Where are your profile visits coming from?

The last ten days fundamentally altered the rhythm of our lives.

The disruptions we are experiencing now remind me of how deeply interconnected we truly are.

My days are usually spent helping leaders find their voice, build their presence, and navigate corporate challenges. 

But this week, the conversations have shifted. 

I have spoken with brilliant professionals who are struggling to focus, leaders who are trying to project strength while quietly managing their own anxieties, and expatriates who are constantly checking their phones for news from home or worrying about the safety of their loved ones.

We often talk about "bringing our whole selves to work," but what does that mean when our whole selves are exhausted, worried, and grieving?

In my 15 years of professional experience, I have learned that true leadership is not about having all the answers or maintaining a facade of invulnerability. 

It is about holding space for the uncomfortable realities. 

It is about acknowledging that it is okay if productivity is not at 100% right now. 

It is about looking at the person across the table (or the screen) and recognizing their humanity before their job title.

The human disruption is what requires our immediate attention. 
We cannot simply "business as usual" our way through this.

To the leaders reading this: 
Your teams are watching how you respond. 

They don't need you to solve the geopolitical crisis. 
They need you to show empathy. 
They need you to offer flexibility. 

They need you to say, "I know this is hard, and I am here to support you."

To the professionals feeling overwhelmed: 
Your silence right now is not a sign of weakness; it is a natural response to trauma and uncertainty. 
But please, do not isolate yourself. 
Reach out to your network, lean on your colleagues, and give yourself the grace to process what is happening.

Resilience does not mean ignoring the pain; it means moving through it together.

Check on your colleagues. 
Be patient with your clients. 

And above all, be kind to yourselves.

Before working together, my client thought the problem was:
"I don't have enough experience."

After one hour, they realized it was actually:
"I don't have enough VISIBILITY."

Here's the shift:
You don't need more experience. 
You need more people to KNOW about your experience.

That's Career Autonomy.

Are you building experience? Or building visibility?

I say "No" to:
•Clients who want quick fixes
•Clients who aren't willing to invest 3 hours/week
•Clients who want me to "do it for them"

Here's why I refuse to take their money:
Because Career Autonomy is a "done-with-you" process, not a "done-for-you" service.

If you're not willing to do the work, no coach can save you.

And why it's better for my actual clients:
Because I only work with people who are committed. 
And that means better results for everyone.

Ask yourself this one question:
"If I lost my job tomorrow, would I have 3 people I could call who would hire me or refer me immediately?"

If the answer is No, you have a gap in your Career Autonomy that needs fixing.

Because Career Autonomy isn't just about visibility.
It's about having a network that creates opportunities for you.

Can you name 3 people right now?

Being the smartest person in the room means nothing if you don't speak up.

If you can't express your idea at the right moment, in the right way it's as if you never had it at all.

Episode #22 — Your Silence Is Not Humility. It's Invisibility.

I hear most in my coaching sessions is "uncertainty." in the last 10 days. 

When the macro environment is this unpredictable, it’s natural to feel like you’re losing control over your own career and daily life.

But here is what I remind my clients: 

You cannot control the geopolitical landscape, but you can control your micro-environment.

In times of deep uncertainty, we must anchor ourselves in what we know to be true.

1. Acknowledge the reality
• Toxic positivity helps no one. 
• It is okay to admit that things are difficult and that you are distracted.

2. Focus on the immediate: 
• When the long-term is blurry, shrink your horizon. 
• What can you accomplish today? 
• What does your team need from you in this exact moment?

3.Communicate transparently: 
• If the regional disruptions are impacting your deliverables, say so early. 
• Over-communicate with your stakeholders.

As professionals in the GCC, we are used to a fast-paced, forward-looking environment. 

Pausing feels counterintuitive. 
But right now, pausing to breathe, to reassess, and to support one another is the most strategic move you can make.

I spent 14 years as a journalist covering lifestyle and news, followed by nearly seven years leading PR and communications for a Dubai Government entity. I built teams, ran campaigns, handled crises, and trusted my work would speak for itself.

Then the world shifted.

In the thick of Covid, I stepped into consultancy. I introduced myself on a call and said, “Hi, I’m Carolina.”
The voice on the other end replied: “Carolina… from where?”

That moment stuck.

It made me realize that reputation doesn’t build itself. We owe it to ourselves to define the story before someone else does it for us.

So, as a re-introduction: I’m a storyteller at heart, and an advisor by choice, working at the intersection of strategy, positioning, and storytelling.

Since 2020, I’ve led brand strategy and storytelling projects across healthcare, finance, retail, and social impact. I’ve worked with people and brands in moments of clarity, chaos, and everything in between.

Haya Kalbouneh gave herself permission to build what she wished existed, a product about identity, language, and belonging for children. 

For her, motherhood was the catalyst.  

"I wanted Arabic to feel close and natural for my daughter and I couldn’t find tools.” 

As she spoke to other parents, she realized she wasn’t alone. “So the leap was launching something that helps families teach Arabic in a way that builds connection to their language and heritage.” 

That became Masa wa Mansour, an early learning brand helping families introduce Arabic at home in a way that feels “light, playful, and intentional with screen time”. Masa means ‘diamond’ in Arabic, “a nod to how precious our language is,” and Mansour, her dinosaur friend, makes learning fun. 

Rooted in research and play-based learning, she says Arabic shouldn’t feel foreign in an Arab home. “It should feel easy, especially in the early years, when kids are forming their first relationship with language.” 

As Haya built, parents she didn’t know began sending messages saying it felt like them, that their child had said an Arabic word, and that it was the first time Arabic had not felt like a fight but something their children now asked for. Some shared that this was not just content, but something changing the energy around Arabic in the home, and that it mattered. 

Yet behind those affirmations was a far more complex internal journey and the constant switching between confidence and doubt. 

In a job, she explains the role is clear, but when building something of your own, you become everything: product, marketing, customer support, strategy, and operations. What helped was speaking to parents and educators, observing what children respond to, and staying focused on the problem. 

As she built for her own daughter and other children and families, her identity and brand evolved from “professional” to “professional + mother + builder”, adding, “motherhood doesn’t weaken your edge, it sharpens it”. 

Originally from Palestine and born and raised in Jordan, she came to Dubai for work and started her family here. “Dubai was a front-row seat to the exact problem [I faced as a mother].”
