External visibility gives you options.


Where are your profile visits coming from?

The last ten days fundamentally altered the rhythm of our lives.

The disruptions we are experiencing now remind me of how deeply interconnected we truly are.

My days are usually spent helping leaders find their voice, build their presence, and navigate corporate challenges. 

But this week, the conversations have shifted. 

I have spoken with brilliant professionals who are struggling to focus, leaders who are trying to project strength while quietly managing their own anxieties, and expatriates who are constantly checking their phones for news from home or worrying about the safety of their loved ones.

We often talk about "bringing our whole selves to work," but what does that mean when our whole selves are exhausted, worried, and grieving?

In my 15 years of professional experience, I have learned that true leadership is not about having all the answers or maintaining a facade of invulnerability. 

It is about holding space for the uncomfortable realities. 

It is about acknowledging that it is okay if productivity is not at 100% right now. 

It is about looking at the person across the table (or the screen) and recognizing their humanity before their job title.

The human disruption is what requires our immediate attention. 
We cannot simply "business as usual" our way through this.

To the leaders reading this: 
Your teams are watching how you respond. 

They don't need you to solve the geopolitical crisis. 
They need you to show empathy. 
They need you to offer flexibility. 

They need you to say, "I know this is hard, and I am here to support you."

To the professionals feeling overwhelmed: 
Your silence right now is not a sign of weakness; it is a natural response to trauma and uncertainty. 
But please, do not isolate yourself. 
Reach out to your network, lean on your colleagues, and give yourself the grace to process what is happening.

Resilience does not mean ignoring the pain; it means moving through it together.

Check on your colleagues. 
Be patient with your clients. 

And above all, be kind to yourselves.

Before working together, my client thought the problem was:
"I don't have enough experience."

After one hour, they realized it was actually:
"I don't have enough VISIBILITY."

Here's the shift:
You don't need more experience. 
You need more people to KNOW about your experience.

That's Career Autonomy.

Are you building experience? Or building visibility?

I say "No" to:
•Clients who want quick fixes
•Clients who aren't willing to invest 3 hours/week
•Clients who want me to "do it for them"

Here's why I refuse to take their money:
Because Career Autonomy is a "done-with-you" process, not a "done-for-you" service.

If you're not willing to do the work, no coach can save you.

And why it's better for my actual clients:
Because I only work with people who are committed. 
And that means better results for everyone.

Ask yourself this one question:
"If I lost my job tomorrow, would I have 3 people I could call who would hire me or refer me immediately?"

If the answer is No, you have a gap in your Career Autonomy that needs fixing.

Because Career Autonomy isn't just about visibility.
It's about having a network that creates opportunities for you.

Episode #22 — Your Silence Is Not Humility. It's Invisibility.

I hear most in my coaching sessions is "uncertainty." in the last 10 days. 

When the macro environment is this unpredictable, it’s natural to feel like you’re losing control over your own career and daily life.

But here is what I remind my clients: 

You cannot control the geopolitical landscape, but you can control your micro-environment.

In times of deep uncertainty, we must anchor ourselves in what we know to be true.

1. Acknowledge the reality
• Toxic positivity helps no one. 
• It is okay to admit that things are difficult and that you are distracted.

2. Focus on the immediate: 
• When the long-term is blurry, shrink your horizon. 
• What can you accomplish today? 
• What does your team need from you in this exact moment?

3.Communicate transparently: 
• If the regional disruptions are impacting your deliverables, say so early. 
• Over-communicate with your stakeholders.

As professionals in the GCC, we are used to a fast-paced, forward-looking environment. 

Pausing feels counterintuitive. 
But right now, pausing to breathe, to reassess, and to support one another is the most strategic move you can make.

There were moments in my career when nothing was "technically wrong."

And yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

The title was strong.
The trajectory looked impressive.
People respected what I was building.

But inside, there was friction.

📌 I remember one season very clearly.

I was delivering at a high level.
People relied on me.
I was the one fixing, advising, carrying.

And still… I felt smaller than my potential.

Not because I lacked skill.
Not because I lacked ambition.

But because I was operating inside a frame I had already outgrown.

I didn’t have language for it at the time.

So I did what high-performers do.

- pressed on more hard work.
- I added more.
- I tried to optimize what was already “good.”

It only made the friction louder.

📌 There was another season where I almost convinced myself the answer was another credential.

One more program.
One more structured step.

It sounded responsible. It sounded strategic.

But if I’m honest, it was hesitation disguised as preparation.

The real shift didn’t happen when I learned more.

It happened when I recalibrated.

When I stopped asking,
“How can I perform better here?”

And started asking,
“Is this still the right level for who I’ve become?”

That question forced uncomfortable decisions.

It forced me to update my self-image.
To speak differently.
To negotiate differently.
To position myself differently.

And every time I did that —
the market responded.

The opportunities changed.
The rooms changed.
The conversations changed.

📌 Looking back, none of my major leaps started with clarity.

They started with misalignment.

A quiet tension that said:
You’ve grown. Your positioning hasn’t.

Now, when I feel that friction, I don’t panic.

I pay attention.

Because misalignment isn’t a crisis.

It’s an invitation.

Some days I feel like a mind-reader.

Around 70% of the time, I’m the one who reaches out first.
And almost every reply sounds the same:

“Wow… I needed this today. How did you know?”

Here’s the truth:

Most people don’t know what they need. 
They just know they’re tired, irritated, stuck… and can’t name it.

Psychology has a word for that: 𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐦𝐢𝐚 — difficulty identifying and describing emotions. Resulting in:

→ Low emotional clarity 
→ higher stress/anxiety over time
→ lower likelihood of asking for support.

So no, I’m not reading minds.
I’m reading patterns.

- “I’m fine, just busy” (for the third year in a row)
- Promotions that never match your potential
- Talk about a big ambition… and laugh it off with a quick joke to shrink it

Self-awareness research also shows a consistent gap between how we see ourselves and how others experience us.

That gap is where blind spots, stagnation, and quiet burnout live.

That’s why an external message can feel 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞:

Your brain is busy protecting your identity (“I’m strong, I can handle it”), 
not spotlighting your needs.

A coach simply holds up a mirror you haven’t used yet.

If this feels uncomfortably familiar, take it as data.

You don’t need the perfect sentence.
Just the honest one:

“Something isn’t working anymore. I’m ready to look at it.”

𝐏𝐒. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭?

My biggest career upgrades all started with this ↓.

(and no, it's not strategy)

They all started with one sentence:

“Who do you think you are?”

I remember a moment that still lives in my body.

I was about to make a decision that looked irrational on paper.

A safe role. A respected title. A comfortable “yes.”

And yet…

comfort had started to feel like confinement.

I sat with the noise:

“You’re ungrateful.”
“You’ll regret it.”
“You’ll never find a position like this again.” 

But the real gatekeeper was quieter:

Who do you think you are? 

That question is the same one keeping brilliant women stuck today.

Not because they lack skill.

𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥. 

Here’s what I learned the hard way:

Hard work takes you far.

But only identity takes you higher. 

So if you’re feeling restless in your current level…

don’t label it as “ungrateful.”

Sometimes it’s your next identity asking to be chosen.

If your entire life depends on one salary…

You’re not secure.
You’re exposed.

Maram was a 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭.

But she was 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰 where she was actually operating.

Director-level responsibility.
Team-lead pay.

And the painful part?

A plan that protects her life 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 — and her ambition 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝.

Because here’s what most professionals still believe:

One job.
One employer.
One paycheck.

That model was never designed to protect experienced women.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐲.
𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲.

Optionality means:

- you can breathe even if one door closes
- no single employer controls your future
- your experience earns in more than one way

And no—this doesn’t mean “start a business from scratch.”

It means you build 𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 based on what you already know:

- advisory
- consulting
- fractional support
- coaching / training
- paid workshops
- paid expertise (not paid hours)

That’s exactly what we built for Maram (without burning bridges):

Then the moment happened.

Maram quit the job where she was underpaid for her level.

Not in anger.
In power.

Fast forward:

She opened her own 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬.

And here’s my favorite part:

While she was on a vacation in Thailand…
she negotiated an offer from one of her top target companies.

From a different identity.

Not “I need this job. Please don’t fire me.”
But: “Here’s the value. Here are the terms.”

Because the shift is simple (but most people never make it):

Stop asking: “𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐞?”
Start asking: “𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞—𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭?”

The market doesn’t pay for your job title.
It pays for your judgment.

Maram didn’t need “more motivation.”
She needed a plan that turns her expertise into leverage.

If you’re over 35 and you still have ONE income stream…

That’s not security.
That’s a risk you’ve normalized.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
“Leadership is for the ‘special ones.’”

None of that was mine.

It was passed down.

Here are the 5 paradigms that kept me trapped in the “quantum leaps aren’t real” story. I see so many high-performing women stuck there too:

1) I believed progress had to be slow. One title at a time. One year at a time.
So I kept waiting for time to do what strategy should do.

2) I believed there were only a few “seats” and you had to be chosen.
So I optimized for approval instead of authority.

3) I believed being easy to work with was the fastest path up.
So I stayed polished… but quiet. Helpful… but forgettable.

4) I believed hard work speaks for itself.
So I overdelivered in silence and called it “humility.” (It was invisibility.)

5) I believed confidence is something you either have or you don’t.
So I waited to “feel ready”… while other people moved with half the competence and double the conviction.

Then I learned the real truth:

A quantum leap isn’t magic.

It’s an "identity recode."

Everything changes when we stop asking:
“Am I ready?”

And start deciding:
“This is who I am now.”

Because when you accept a new identity, you naturally:

- 'unwire' the old belief (“I’m not leadership material”)
- 'install' a new one (“I create outcomes, I lead decisions, I move rooms”)
- 'prove it' with visible consistent behavior (cleaner communication, sharper positioning, bolder asks, better boundaries)

That’s when the world responds.

I’ve seen it up close:

4- Reframe the Outcome: If someone takes credit, don't shut down. See the "visibility gap" and pivot to: "I led that—here is the data".

5- 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟𝐬: Being "bad at politics" isn't a personality trait; it’s a program you can uninstall.

6- 𝐀𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞: Swap "Sorry to take up time" for "My recommendation is...".

The 5 Areas Your Self-Image Won't Allow You To Outperform

You’re doing this wrong. Here’s why.

When asked for updates, most high performers 'explain'.

But Leaders always opt for 'framing'.

Explaining sounds like a long story:

- what happened
- why it happened
- how hard it was
- every detail you touched

Framing sounds like:
“Here’s the decision. Here’s the impact. Here’s what I need.”

If you want to be seen as Director-level, start speaking in 'decision language'.

Because the room doesn’t reward the most detailed person.
It rewards the 'clearest' person.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 (5 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬):

1. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 → 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞
  “I worked on X” → “X is now at Y result (and it changes Z).”

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟: “I worked on the Q1 report and updated the deck.”
𝐒𝐚𝐲: “Q1 deck is finalized and aligned with Finance. Outcome: we can sign off the forecast tomorrow and unblock the exec review.”

2. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 → 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐥
  “Let me give context…” → “The key point you need is this: ___.”

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟: “Quick context—last week we had delays because Vendor A…”
𝐒𝐚𝐲: “Key signal: Vendor A is now the bottleneck. If we don’t switch by Friday, launch moves by 2 weeks.”

3. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭 → 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤
  “This took longer than expected” → “Risk: ___ / Mitigation: ___ / Decision needed: ___.”

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟:“This took longer than expected because the data was messy.”
𝐒𝐚𝐲: “Risk: reporting accuracy drops if we ship with incomplete data. Mitigation: run a 24-hour validation. Decision needed: approve a 1-day shift or accept reduced confidence.”

4. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬 → 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
  “We’re stuck because…” → “We have 3 options. I recommend B because ___.”

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟: “We’re stuck because stakeholders keep changing requirements.”
𝐒𝐚𝐲: “We have 3 options:
A) Freeze ...
B) Add ...
C) Split .....
I recommend B to protect quality and avoid rework.”

5. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 → 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
  “Can I…?” → “Decision required: approve ___ by ___ so we can deliver ___.”

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟: “Can I move resources from Project X to help this?”
𝐒𝐚𝐲: “Decision required: reassign 1 analyst from Project X for 10 days so we can hit the regulatory deadline. If approved today, we stay on track.”

Here's a bonus: Try this 15-second Director-level structure:

𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: ___
𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: ___
𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝: ___ (owner + deadline)

♻️ Save & Reshare this. Someone in your circle is just looking for how to replace storytelling with director language. Their boss is too busy for all the details.

They told you to speak up.
(→ but missed to tell you there is a price for it.)

This is the visibility paradox — 
and every ambitious woman in the MENA region knows it in her bones:

Stay quiet → you're overlooked. 
Speak up → you're "too much."

Share your wins → you're arrogant. 
Stay humble → you're invisible.

Take credit → you're self-serving. 
Don't take credit → someone else does.

There is no safe option. That's the point.

The system wasn't built with a lane for visible women. 

So you're constantly building the road while driving on it.

And the exhausting part isn't the visibility itself.

It's the mental math you run before every meeting, every post, every conversation:

"How much of myself is safe to show here?"

That calculation is costing you more than you realize.

Research confirms it: 

Women who avoid visibility 👉 stay undervalued and overlooked for promotion — no matter how strong their performance.

But women who ARE visible face backlash 👉 labeled aggressive, arrogant, or "not a culture fit."

So what do most smart women do?

They choose a third option nobody talks about: strategic invisibility.

They shrink just enough to stay safe. 
Just enough to avoid judgment. 
Just enough to keep the peace.

And they call it professionalism.

Here's what I learned the hard way:

Visibility is not about being louder.

It's about narrating your impact in a language the room can't ignore.

Not: "I helped with that project." 
But: "I identified the gap, restructured the approach, and delivered the result."

Same woman. Same work. Different sentence. Different career trajectory.

The paradox doesn't disappear. But you stop playing by its rules.

She avoided social media for years.

Not because she had nothing to say.

She consumed knowledge endlessly. 
Courses. Books. Frameworks. 

But she never showed up publicly. 
Never posted. Never shared her expertise.

She was the most prepared invisible person in her industry.
Sound familiar?

When Fatma came to me, she had everything except visibility.

The skills were there. The knowledge was deep. The ambition was real.

But every time she thought about posting on LinkedIn or speaking up publicly, the same voice kicked in:

"What if they judge me?" 
"What if it's not good enough?" 
"Who am I to share this?"

So she stayed hidden. And the opportunities kept going to people who knew less — but showed up more.

She built a self-image that matched her capability. 
She converted her social accounts from private to public. 
She started posting weekly — consistently.

Then 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲:

Promoted to a leadership role. 
Managing a team of 10. 
Took on bigger responsibilities. Never raised her hand for before.

The gap was never knowledge. She had plenty.
The gap was permission. She was waiting for someone to tell her she was allowed to be seen.

The Biggest Risk in a Quantum Leap Isn’t the Market. It’s YOU.

She’s the one who holds everything together.
 
The onboarding. The client rescue. The team morale. 
The behind-the-scenes magic that keeps the department running.
 
And at review time? None of it counts.
 
Research shows that the essential work women do: 

stabilizing teams, 
smoothing relationships 
managing crises 

rarely translates into promotion. Despite being critical to performance.
 
Worse: studies found that feeling invisible at work activates the same brain response as physical pain.
 
So no — you’re not "too sensitive" for wanting recognition. 
Your brain is literally processing a threat.
 
The fix isn’t to stop doing this work. It’s to start narrating it differently.
 
Next time you solve a crisis — don’t just solve it. Say:
 
"I identified the risk, restructured the approach, and delivered the result."

Helping You Make A Quantum Jump In Your Career

I have been providing free content to help people make better decisions in their career paths and reach higher levels of inner peace and work -life balance, as well as pursue their goals through consistent weekly training, posting, and writing articles on different platforms, but mainly Linkedin.

My client Anwar came to me a few days ago and said:

"This is the 5th time I get everything ready to launch my business — 

then I back off and decide not to continue. Because it doesn't feel perfect. Why does this keep happening to me?"

I told her: "It's not perfectionism. It's a confidence gap disguised as a quality standard."

She didn't need a better business plan. 
She needed to stop waiting to feel confident before she moved.

Here's what most people get wrong about confidence:

They think it's a personality trait. 
Something you're born with or you're not.

It's neither. 

Confidence is the byproduct of two things: decision and mastery.

The women I've coached who made the biggest leaps didn't feel confident when they started. They felt terrified.

But they had something more powerful: 
a decision to move before the fear left.

And then something interesting happened —
as they mastered their new world, the confidence followed.


If you're pivoting into a new industry or launching something new and the confidence isn't there yet — try this:

1- Study the landscape before you judge yourself inside it. Spend 2 weeks consuming everything about the new industry — reports, leaders, language, trends. 

👉 You can't feel confident in a world you haven't mapped. Knowledge replaces fear.

2- Have 5 conversations before you make a single move. Talk to people already in the space. Not to pitch. To listen. 

👉 Every conversation deposits confidence you can't get from a course.

3- Borrow credibility from what you already know. You're not starting from zero. Your previous career gave you skills that transfer — leadership, problem-solving, stakeholder management. 

👉 Name them. Write them down. That's your bridge.

Confidence isn't magic. It's what happens when preparation meets decision.

Anwar? She launched. Not perfectly. But she launched. 
And the confidence she was waiting for? It showed up on the other side.

Leadership isn’t blocked by lack of talent.

It’s blocked by a 'silent belief' that sounds “reasonable”…
but quietly keeps you out of the room:

I’ve seen it in high-performing women across the GCC:

- Degrees. Results. Reputation.
- Yet still waiting. Still “preparing.” Still self-editing.

Not because they’re incapable.

Because they’ve been trained to think leadership is a VIP club—
and they don’t have the “right” status to enter.

But here’s what most people miss:

In many organizations, “exceptional” is not a standard.
It’s a 'moving goalpost.'

And moving goalposts do one thing well:
They protect systems from changing.


Here’s what this belief does to your career (without you noticing):

✅ 𝐈𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐀𝐘
→ You don’t raise your hand for stretch roles
→ You “wait to be ready”
→ You keep collecting credentials instead of visibility

→ You over-credit others
→ You assume leadership is “for different women”

→ You wait for permission
→ You hope someone notices
→ You stay excellent… privately

That’s the invisible tax.

Not talent.
Not effort.
A belief.


Here’s the reframe I want you to adopt starting today:
