How to Speak Up in Meetings Without Hesitation: 

1.     Stop self-censorship

Don’t miss the opportunity to share your views by over thinking, jump in there and share your thoughts and ideas. You see that you‘ll soon automatically speak up more often. 

2.     Don’t forget to prepare

Review the agenda before, collect your thoughts in advance, think about the possible questions you will be asked.

3.     Ask Questions (But Clever Questions!)

Be an active participant by simply asking questions. “Where is that coming from?”
Don’t be afraid to leverage your knowledge.

4.     Use the Language of Declaration

Instead of opening up with “I think”, instead say “Here’s what I know…” or “My experience tells me…”

5.     Say the first thing that comes to mind. (Sometimes!)

Along with preparing to discuss a specific topic, commit to expressing one thought that comes to mind during the meeting. Do this at least once per meeting so that speaking without censorship becomes a habit.

Use these points in every meeting and observe the impact you create.

I nearly quit after they shut the door on me.

I felt humiliated.

Small.

Like I didn’t belong anywhere.

I used to replay that moment at night.

The closed door.
The forced smile.
The ache of invisibility.

Ironically, it happened in the very places that claimed to value leadership.

Meetings I should have been part of.
Decisions I should have influenced.
Yet somehow, I wasn’t invited.

At first, I felt the sting.

The frustration. The doubt.

Then I realized something:

Their smallness (fear, bias, insecurity) was NOT MINE to carry.

I made a choice.
I would not shrink.

I would not let their limitations define my leadership.

Instead, I poured my energy into the work that mattered,
into my team, into building influence that couldn’t be ignored.

Over time, I learned a bigger truth:

True strength isn’t about proving them wrong.
It’s about protecting your light and expanding it.

And now, when I coach leaders, I tell them this:

Your impact grows when you refuse to let others’ limitations limit you.

Because greatness doesn’t shrink.
It radiates, even when others try to close the door.

P.S. What would be your first thought if someone shuts the door on you?

This is the GUILT working mothers don’t say out loud.

It happened to me a year ago.

I had a major leadership presentation in the morning.

One of my kids woke up sick.

Normally, I would cancel everything without thinking.

But that day… I didn’t.

I arranged care.
Checked on him twice.
Left the house anyway.

And the entire drive, my heart felt heavy.

Not because I didn’t love him.

But because for the first time…
I chose something for me.

During the presentation, I kept replaying his small tired voice.

“Mom, can you stay?”

I delivered the work.
I held the room.
I did what I needed to do.

But on the inside, I felt like I had failed at the job that mattered most.

Later that night, when everything quieted down, he asked me

“Did your meeting go well?”

I said yes.

He smiled and said

“Good. Because you always take care of us. You can take care of your work too.”

And something clicked.

Our children don’t just learn from our presence.

They learn from our choices.

From watching us build.
From watching us rise.
From watching us honor our responsibilities outside the home too.

I used to think being a good mother meant giving all of myself.

Now I know...

Being a good mother also means showing my children what a fulfilled, purposeful, resilient woman looks like.

Motherhood is not about choosing between them and you.

It is learning when to hold on and when to teach them that mothers are allowed to have dreams too.

P.S. What’s one moment that made you rethink what “being a good parent” truly means?

I got TRIGGERED at the airport

…and my body reacted like I was under attack.

Someone cut ahead in the security line,
mumbling something about being late.

It wasn’t personal.
It wasn’t even that rude.

But my nervous system?
Instant panic.

Tight chest. Faster breathing.
Judgment rising fast before I could even think.

And in that split second, I caught it.

Amygdala hijack.

When your emotional brain takes the wheel

before your rational brain even gets a chance to buckle in.

It happens more than we realize.

Not just in airports
but in meetings, tough conversations, awkward feedback moments.

And the hardest part?
It feels real.

Like a genuine threat.

But leadership and emotional intelligence
don’t mean never getting triggered.

They mean noticing when you do.

Pausing.
Naming it.

And choosing to respond instead of react.

Later, I laughed at myself.
Over a stranger? Really?

But I’m grateful for moments like these.

Because they remind me
awareness doesn’t always show up in the big dramatic moments.

Sometimes it shows up in line at the airport

With a breath,
A beat,
And a choice.

↳ What’s a small moment that unexpectedly triggered you, and what did it teach you?

During one of my workshops, someone asked,

“I get triggered a lot, especially at work. What do you suggest I should do?”

I smiled because this is one the most common questions I get from most leaders.

The first step, I told them, is simply awareness.

You can’t work with what you don’t notice.

The thing about triggers is they’re automatic.

You don’t plan them.
They just show up.

And while you may not be able to control being triggered,

You can control what happens after.

Here’s how you start:

𝟭. 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹.

Your body always speaks first.

That tightening in your chest, that shift in your tone, that’s the trigger knocking.

Name the emotion.

Say it out loud, or write it down.

“I feel dismissed.”
“I feel unheard.”
“I feel threatened.”

Naming the feeling softens its grip.

𝟮. 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.

Ask yourself: “Is this about now, or is this about then?”

Most triggers aren’t new.

They’re old wounds looking for proof.

I reminded them that this is the real difference between reactivity and leadership.

It’s not about control.
It’s about consciousness.

Here’s what I want you to think about:

What’s one recurring reaction you’ve brushed off as “ That's just how I am”…

Can you think of one quality or trait?

That might actually be a trigger asking to be understood.

P.S. How do you usually calm yourself when you're emotionally triggered or overwhelmed?

I like going on long walks.

A few months ago, a client walked into our first session looking composed
the kind of leader everyone turns to for answers.

But halfway through our talk, he said quietly:
“I feel like I’m leading everyone but myself.”

That sentence stayed with me.

We started peeling back the layers
the pressure to perform,
the silent expectations,
the habit of being “the strong one.”

And little by little, his energy changed.
The tension in his shoulders softened.
His words slowed down.
His voice carried calm instead of control.

By the end, he said,
“I didn’t realize peace could feel this powerful.”

That’s what clarity does.
It doesn’t make you less ambitious
it makes you aligned.

Because when you lead from presence,
everything around you starts to realign too.

The moment I stopped reacting, everything changed.

Not because I stopped caring
but because I finally started understanding.

The meeting was tense.

And for a second, I felt that familiar urge
to defend, to explain, to fix.

But I paused.
I watched.
I listened… really listened.

That’s when it hit me
Emotional Intelligence isn’t about staying calm.
It’s about staying conscious.

Because reacting is automatic.
Responding is intentional.
And that space between the two?
That’s where leadership lives.

These days, I don’t measure strength by how fast I reply,
but by how centered I stay when everything around me shakes.

That’s emotional mastery.
Quiet. Present. Powerful. 🤍

A few weeks ago, a CEO told me:
“Rawan… I don’t remember the last time I wasn’t tired.”

He wasn’t talking about sleep.

For a long time, I stayed where everything felt familiar.

The systems. The deadlines.
The rhythm of corporate life.

I knew how to handle it.

I knew how to deliver.

It felt safe… until it didn’t.

I realised the comfort I was holding onto was no longer helping me grow.

Coaching wasn’t a strategy shift for me.

It was an alignment shift.

The need to help people understand themselves
and change the patterns that quietly hold them back.

And every time I sit with a leader
and watch them soften, pause, breathe…

when something inside them suddenly clicks,

I remember exactly why I took that leap.

Growth doesn’t start with a big change.

It starts with a quiet moment of clarity.

The moment you tell yourself,
