Even as a serial sales rep throughout school, I never considered a career in sales as a viable option.

I had resigned myself to the reality that teaching was my calling and that sales was just a means to pay the rent until I graduated.

That all changed when I attended a dinner my brother was hosting for his closest friends.

The topic of what I planned to do came up and there was an overwhelming amount of support to seriously consider the field of sales.

That night, without a business degree, I worked up the courage to apply to some of the perceived best sales organizations we had discussed.

To my surprise, companies began to reach out and I haven't looked back since.

Now, I am here to help others, in a similar position find their calling.

Working in the trenches, leading teams, or advising companies on their growth objectives.

I'm excited to give back and help those who may look to forge a similar path.

A notable and nostalgic presentation this morning at the ProveIt! Conference, where Matthew Parris walked on the stage in a red Mr. Roger’s sweater and read us a Dr. Seuss-inspired children’s book — “Oh, the Standards You’ll Meet” — about the very real, very frustrating interoperability challenges manufacturers face every day.

The message underneath the rhymes? Manufacturers have spent decades solving fragmentation at the protocol and namespace level, and now we’re watching the same chaos repeat itself at the API layer. Every vendor, every platform, its own proprietary interface. 

Application developers rebuilding the same integrations over and over.

CESMII’s i3X initiative is working to change that — a common, open API standard for manufacturing information so that analytics, AI, and visualization tools can actually move between platforms without starting from scratch each time.

And as someone who sits firmly on the business side of the table, it meant a lot to walk away actually understanding why this matters — not just that it does.
