I have directed three independent cancer institutes, collectively representing 17 hospitals and 12 cancer centers.  I am a hematologist and medical oncologist who has been the institutional principal investigator on nearly 100 clinical trials involving breast cancer, myeloma, prostate cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, ovarian cancer, head and neck cancer, myelodysplastic syndrome, CLL, DLBCL, esophageal cancer, etc.  I was on three papers published in The New England Journal of Medicine (prostate cancer, chronic neutrophilic leukemia, lung cancer) and two in Lancet (Shingles vaccine and head and neck cancer).  I am board certified in hematology, medical oncology, internal medicine, and artificial intelligence in medicine.

I resisted the trend towards subspecialization in my career as I feel ideation often happens at the level of the forest, not the trees.  Many of the greatest future innovations will be at the interface of various disciplines. 

My area of clinical expertise is precision medicine, and my ability to treat patients in all hematology/medical oncology disciplines uniquely positions me to sequence molecular-based therapies in the context of conventional therapy and clinical trials.

I am the CEO and Founder of three companies:  CancerClarity, CancerLight, and Revolution Cancer Medical Care PLLC.  We are early in our development as we hope to disrupt the clinical trial, patient education, and clinical care forums.  Aside from building my two companies, I am a consulting medical director for 2 phase 1 Xbiotech clinical trials (pancreatic cancer), consult for numerous other pharmaceutical companies, and see patients full-time in the clinic as a hematologist/medical oncologist.  I recently turned down several high-visibility positions to pursue my vision.

My singular focus is to help as many people as I can in the shortest time frame possible.

BREAKING NEWS: Johnson & Johnson bets $3 billion on bifunctional small molecule for oncology 💊 

Johnson & Johnson announced today it will acquire Halda Therapeutics for $3.05B in cash, adding a novel class of bifunctional small molecules, RIPTACs™, to its oncology pipeline.

Halda’s lead candidate, HLD-0915, is a first-in-class, orally available RIPTAC therapeutic in Phase 1/2 for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). The molecule functions via an induced proximity mechanism, holding together the androgen receptor (AR) and BRD4, disrupting BRD4 activity selectively in tumor cells. 

This represents a chemically precise “hold and kill” approach with promising early clinical efficacy and tolerability.

The RIPTAC platform is designed to overcome common resistance mechanisms in targeted cancer therapies by creating ternary complexes that drive selective degradation or inactivation of intracellular proteins—opening the door to a new therapeutic class beyond conventional inhibitors or degraders.

Founded in 2019, Halda is based in New Haven, CT, and backed by leading life science investors including RA Capital, Vida Ventures, and Taiho Ventures.

A shout-out to the latest Where Tech Meets Bio deep dive that unpacked a lot around Protein Language Models (PLMs) — what they are, who’s building them, and where pharma is already putting them to use.

There is a certain analogy between proteins and human language: amino acid sequences are kind of like sentences, local context matters, but so do long-range dependencies and distant structural features, interactions between moieties, etc.  

That's why PLMs are a hot niche right now. In PLMs, scientists use various architectures and algorithms, taking inspiration from classical language models. For instance, transformer models from NLP to learn the “grammar” of proteins directly from massive sequence datasets, enabling structure prediction, function annotation, and generative design.

The newsletter walks through the latest in PLMs, from EvolutionaryScale (recently acquired by CZI for its Biohub project) to companies like Profluent, which is using PLMs to design new CRISPR tools, and Cradle, where R&D teams can upload their lab data and get custom protein design models fine-tuned to their specific projects. 

There’s also a helpful breakdown of the challenges, like the fact that most PLMs treat proteins as static, even though proteins are anything but...

Wow, over €1.1 billion in biotech venture funds closed this week to support European biotech startups!  

Two new funds just announced:

🔹 Sofinnova Partners closed Capital XI at €650M, above its €500M target and €600M cap. The fund will focus on seed and Series A biotech and medtech companies, with areas like oncology, immunology, CNS, and cardio-metabolic diseases. 

They've already made five investments, including HAYA Therapeutics (RNA platform for cardiometabolic disease) and Galvanize (pulsed electric field for solid tumors).

🔹 Medicxi closed Fund V at €500M. It’s stage-agnostic, backing both newcos and more developed biopharma companies. Since its last fund in 2023, they’ve launched 16 companies and seen exits like Merus N.V. (€8B M&A) and ProfoundBio (both acquired by Genmab).

That’s a big chunk of new capital aimed at early science and drug development, with a decent spread across Europe, the UK, and the US.

Feels like momentum is building again in European biotech lately, at least at the fund level...

BREAKTHROUGH ALERT: 
First 3D-printed, lab-grown cornea implanted in a human patient 👁️ 

As Fierce Biotech reports, Precise Bio has completed the first successful human implantation of a 3D-printed corneal graft constructed entirely from lab-grown human eye cells.

⚠️ Precise Bio’s technology addresses a significant unmet need: globally, only 1 cornea is available for every 70 patients in need of a transplant. 

The implant, called PB-001, was fabricated using Precise Bio’s robotic bio-fabrication platform, which combines cell biology, biomaterials engineering, and 3D bioprinting to replicate the native architecture of the cornea. 

As Conor Hale reports, unlike traditional transplants, which rely on donor tissue, PB-001 is derived from cultured human corneal cells and built to match the optical clarity, transparency, and biomechanical properties of a natural cornea.

The transplant was performed on October 29, 2025, in one eye of a blind patient. The procedure marks the first time scientists have integrated a fully lab-manufactured human corneal implant into a living patient. 

According to the company, the graft had previously undergone successful preclinical testing in animal models. 

Their platform aims to scale production by potentially generating hundreds of grafts from a single donor source through expansion and tissue engineering.

Technically, PB-001 is delivered preloaded on standard ophthalmic surgical devices and is cryopreserved for long-term storage and global distribution. 

During surgery, it unrolls into its natural shape, facilitating integration with host tissue using existing ophthalmic surgical workflows.

Dr. Michael Mimouni of Rambam Medical Center, who performed the procedure, stated that this development could mitigate the global shortage of donor tissue. 

Co-founders Aryeh Batt and Anthony Atala, said in a press release that PB-001 could potentially standardize corneal transplantation and offer a scalable alternative to current donor-dependent models.
