The secret is how fast you learn.

In his book Hidden Potential, Adam Grant  says that success depends on your "absorptive capacity”, the ability to absorb new information and apply it quickly. 

Two weeks ago, I tested myself. I participated in the RSM Impact Investing Competition 2025 organized by Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University  and ING Nederland. We were one of 15 teams from top MBA programs across Europe to tackle the challenge: we had to find a bankable solution for Stegra, a €6B green steel mill project in Northern Sweden, all in just 10 days.

Many emotions came to mind during those days. I felt overwhelm by data at first. We had to become experts in hydrogen technology, green premiums etc.. overnight. Then I felt adrenaline as the deadline approaches and, finally, pride seeing our work during the presentation to judges.

In the end, I may not mastered the art Grant describes.. however I pushed my hard skills in corporate finance, from financial modelling to valuation as well as ESG impact analytics and I learned that in high-pressure environments, the speed of learning is the only competitive advantage that matters and the best way to improve it is to challenge yourself.
