Augmentum Media turns 4 today.

Just took a moment to take stock of what’s happened since two twenty-something-year-olds decided to start an agency with no network, no funding and (if we’re honest) no idea what we were doing.

Four years later:

We’ve built a team I’d back against anyone.
We’ve delivered campaigns across 7+ regions.
We’ve grown every year without giving away equity.
We’ve retained clients at a rate I’m genuinely proud of.
And we’ve done it all while still staying true to the way we wanted to work.

But the part I’m most grateful for?

The people.

The team who show up every day with high standards and zero ego.

The clients who trusted us long before we “looked” like a proper agency.

The partners, operators and friends who nudged us in the right direction at the right time.

And everyone who took a bet on two founders learning everything in real-time.

Augmentum at 4 is very different from Augmentum at 1.

More structure.
More maturity.
More clarity.
Less chaos (mostly).

But the same tempo, the same hunger, the same belief that we can build something special in this space.

And honestly - it still feels like day one.

Speed is our biggest advantage at Augmentum.

It took me far too long to realise the answer wasn’t “push harder” or “be tougher”.

It was people.

The right advisors.
The right founders in your corner.
The right network that gets what you’re building.

Once that clicked, everything shifted.

Momentum got lighter.
Decision-making got faster.
Problems became shared instead of carried.

Scaling is still challenging - of course it is.
But it feels different when you’re not carrying it alone.

This is simply the part of the journey no one glamorises.

Keep going.

Most brands think the secret to influencer marketing is:

And somehow - the team didn’t just survive it…

Most people don’t know this…

…but the first charity event we ever ran at Augmentum was when we were completely broke.

No funding. No salary. No idea if the agency would survive another six months.

But we did it anyway. Because impact was always the point.
Long before the clients, the case studies, or the team.

Fast-forward to last week where we ran a Mario Kart competition at DMWF, with all prize money going to charity.

We weren’t expecting anything from it. Again, just wanted to make a long conference week a bit lighter and do something good.

Then this message came through (screenshot below).

That’s when it hit me: everything we’ve built has been rooted in the same belief we started with:

Trust matters.
People matter.
Impact matters.

It’s why we built an agency focused on authentic promotion in an industry that desperately needs it.

It’s why we care so deeply about creator relationships, not transactions.

It’s why we try to show up as humans first, marketers second.

And it’s why, even as we scale, I never want us to lose this part.

But how we work… that’s what people remember.

Dave: “So let me get this straight.
You’re running influencer marketing.”

Caller: “Yep.”

Dave: “You’re seeding hundreds of creators… building an affiliate program… driving real revenue?”

Caller: “Correct.”

Dave: “You’ve got creators posting every day… your CPMs are dropping… customers are converting?”

Caller: “That’s right.”

Dave: “And yet… every time you report results, someone in the business says:
‘Yeah but… do we really know it was influencers?’”

Caller: “Every single week, Dave.”

Dave: leans back, arms crossed.

“Mmhmm. Let me guess - they love the creator content, they love the CPMs, they love the customer feedback… but because attribution isn’t a clean last-click screenshot… they don’t trust it.”

Caller: “Exactly.”

Dave: “So they keep cutting budgets.”

Caller: “Yep.”

Dave: “Even though… when you pause influencer, Meta performance tanks… and when you scale influencer, Meta suddenly looks like a cheat code.”

Caller: “It’s actually insane to watch.”

Dave: “Son… that’s not a marketing strategy.
That’s someone running the business off a dashboard that only tells the last 3 seconds of the customer journey.”

Caller: “So what do I do?”

Dave: “You keep going.

Because this is the messy middle of influencer marketing:

Not brand-only.
Not performance-only.
Not instantly attributable.
Not instantly scalable.

It’s the uncomfortable middle where trust compounds quietly… until one day the whole acquisition engine clicks.”

Caller: “That’s what it feels like.”

Dave: “And trust me - the minute it happens, the same people who doubted the channel will swear they ‘always believed in creators.’

They’ll take credit.
They’ll ask you for more budget.
They’ll act like they understood it all along.”

Long stare at the camera.

Dave: “Thanks for calling.”

The biggest lie marketers tell themselves about influencer marketing?

“That if it doesn’t show up in attribution, it didn’t work.”

This single belief is killing more growth than bad creators, bad briefs or bad content ever will.

Because here’s the truth nobody wants to admit:

Influencer rarely shows up cleanly in-platform... but it shows up everywhere else.

Branded search lifts.
Lower Meta CPMs.
Higher CTR.
Higher conversion.
Cheaper retargeting.
More UGC.
Faster repeat purchase.
Better retention.
Better word-of-mouth.
Retail impact.
Funnel compression.

But attribution won’t show you any of that.

So what happens?

A creator drives the interest.
Another ad gets the click.
Paid search gets the credit.
And influencer gets paused.

Then CAC mysteriously rises.
CPMs climb.
Paid performance tanks.

And the team starts “testing new creative” for the 14th time.

This happens every week inside brands.

Here’s the contrarian truth:

Influencer isn’t a closing channel.

It’s an everything channel.

It’s the reason your paid ads work better.
It’s the reason your brand shows up everywhere.
It’s the reason your category sees you as relevant.
It’s the reason your NYNM funnel will convert.

If you measure influencer like Meta, it will always lose.
If you measure it like a trust engine, it will win every time.

2026 will be the year brands finally realise this.

The ones who get it early will own their category.

Influencer seeding is having a moment.
But most brands are still treating it like a “nice-to-have” and not a growth channel.
