This one is for the wannabe-influencers posting their ChatGPT-prompted LinkedIn slop. 

"AI;DR."  

Let's do this.

The idea that “there's no such thing as bad publicity” is making the rounds again, thanks largely to the McDonald's CEO and his "product" tasting video. And its many parodies.

So many of the technorati are out there insisting that “he’s winning” and that “if they’re talking about you, you’ve already won.”

But the idea is both lazy and misapplied.

Yes, provocateurs win by getting attention at any cost. Outrage is their business model. If people are talking about them, that’s the point.

But CEOs aren’t provocateurs. They run institutions. And when trust is part of the product — food safety, financial stewardship, data privacy, brand reputation — credibility isn’t optional. It’s foundational.

Being talked about isn’t the same as being trusted.
Virality isn’t the same as value creation.
Attention isn’t the same as equity.

By the way, who is the quote most commonly attributed to?  P.T. Barnum.
And what did he do again?  He ran a circus — not a serious and important enterprise built on trust.

"All PR is good PR" is what the following people say:

- PR agencies on the back-end of a huge screw-up

- Diletantes and provocateurs, the former because they don't know better, the latter because they're playing a different game.

- People who've never built a serious company selling to serious customers betting their organization's fate and their jobs on you.

All PR is not good PR.  Good PR is good PR.  

Yes, I know McDonald's sells burgers, not enterprise software.  So even if they somehow deem this as working on Barnum's grounds, or any other, let's remember that we sell enterprise software, not burgers.

It's not quite the Fearless Girl statue, but I'll take the Rock Lobster challenging the bull.

This is now my favorite job interview story.

(In the end he got the job and tours with them to this day.  Saw them at The Sphere a few weeks back and it was incredible.)

I've been reflecting a lot on OpenClaw. It's a fascinating stress test for the agent ecosystem, and it raises some important questions for enterprises:
- Who owns "how work gets done"? OpenClaw runs on your machine, with access to your files, email, calendar, and the ability to run code directly. Each person who sets one up configures it differently: different skills, different memory, different context for what good looks like. You get divergent versions of the same process, shaped by whoever built the agent.

- What happens when shadow agents meet sensitive data? Even on a personal machine, broad, persistent permissions are a security risk. Move that same pattern onto a corporate laptop wired into email, code, CRM, and finance, and it becomes an unmanaged risk surface—one that doesn’t know who the user is, what data is sensitive, or which actions should require approval.

OpenClaw is a preview of what's coming to the enterprise, too. You can spin up a skill in an afternoon, refine it all week, and have it running 24/7. The question for enterprise leaders isn't whether your employees are already spinning up agents that touch work content—they likely are. It's whether your organization will get ahead of it or wake up one day to find that your most sensitive workflows are running on infrastructure you never approved, can't audit, and can't turn off. Governance and security have to be built into the agent platform from day one.
