While Director of FP&A at Pinnacle Airlines Corp., Ben implemented an improved FP&A structure and process to support a rapidly growing organization.  Within his first year, he sourced and implemented a new planning and reporting system to move away from an offline, Excel-based system.  Through this technology and process redesign, his team reduced Pinnacle’s annual budget season from three to two month and introduced a detailed, monthly forecasting package.  Other improvements included new management performance reporting through monthly close packages, leading to earlier corrective action of operating variances.  With better data and analysis, his team created a new cost and revenue allocation system to determine profitability by product line and a more sophisticated process to bid on RFP’s.  Ben also developed Pinnacle’s first external finance training course in partnership with the University of Memphis.

As the first financial planning and analysis hire, Ben created many "firsts."  This included a weekly revenue forecast for the CEO using bookings data while applying software revenue recognition standards and a complex financial statement forecasting model. The Group Director of Finance is a member of the Executive Committee and is responsible directly to the Group General Manager. My responsibilities include accounting, finance, billing and collection, cost control, and purchasing functions ensuring effective systems are in place, analyze financial planning for both short-term and long-term, and strictly adhere to established internal control and safety system for the financial data reliable.

Reporting to the Group General Manager, my responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- To assist in preparing, in conjunction with the Group General Manager and other department heads, the annual budget, capital budgets and the rolling forecasts; to establish the annual budget preparation procedures and guidelines.
- To provide accurate and complete financial and management reports on a timely and accurate basis to hotel management, corporate office and owners in accordance with the company and ownership reporting requirements and policy; responsible for reporting accurately and timely, the actual results as compared to budget/forecast results; to maintain adequate records to reflect the comparison of the actual expenditures for furniture, equipment and operating equipment to the budgeted amounts.
- Responsible for the analysis and interpretation of the financial data and communicating this in a comprehensible form, of meaningful variations in the operations.
- Oversee the general accounting: payroll and administration, cost account, general cashier, account payable, store receiving, cashier, internal control
- Oversee the credit account, account receivable, income audit and develop, implement and monitor credit and collection procedures and guidelines pursuant to “adopted” corporate credit policies.

Group Director of Finance

Fairmont Raffles Hotel Makati is a 30-storey hotel with two luxury International Hotel brands at one complex. Fairmont Makati and Raffles Makati consist of 280 Fairmont Hotel rooms, 32 Raffles Suites located atop, and 237 Raffles Residences.

The Director of Finance and Business Support is responsible directly to the Regional Director of Finance & Business Support and indirectly to the hotel’s Managing Director. The role handles the administration of all financial aspects of the hotel’s operations, to ensure that all local and corporate policies and procedures are observed and to supervise the day to day operations of the Accounting office.

Responsibilities and essential job functions include the following:

Under Accor Upper South East Asia and North East Asia and Maldives (AAPC Limited), Nestor held the position as Group Director of Finance for VIE Hotel Bangkok, V Villas Hua Hin and Phuket, as part of MGallery Hotel Collection, and Mirihi Island Resort, a property in Maldives which handles the management and operations of the function of Finance for the cluster properties. He was the Director of Finance for Fairmont Makati, Raffles Makati and Raffles Residences Makati (formerly under Fairmont Raffles Hotels International, a luxury hotel management company).

Prior joining Accor, Nestor worked as Financial Controller of Timberland Sports and Nature Club (TSNC), and the Corporate Payables and Project Monitoring & Reporting Head of Filinvest Land, Inc., a publicly-listed property developer in the Philippines. He successfully turned around a Club under recovery, went into condotel expansion, obtained financing, got it to profitability level, settled creditors and financed major capital expenditures.

Nestor was formerly a Senior Associate Auditor in the Assurance and Advisory Business Services (AABS) group of SyCip Gorres Velayo (SGV) & Co. (a member practice of Ernst & Young Global) handling Real Estate (Construction), Oil, Power Generation, Brewery and Professional Services industries.

He holds a degree in Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of the Philippines. He passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Licensure Examination in October 2010. He is also a member of Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).
