It’s basically a “paper patient twin.”

For an experienced staff, it would take roughly ~90 minutes of documentation on paper.

Or as part of traditional EHR workflows, around ~35–45 minutes and 600–800 clicks!

Or about 15 minutes and 20-40 clicks using an AI scribe.

Just my subjective estimations.

That means AI could reduce documentation time by roughly 70% compared to paper, and reduce click burden by around 95% compared to conventional EHR systems. Significantly lowering cognitive load and fragmentation would be the added bonus.

What is "digital blood testing"?

The idea is that using wearable patches makes it possible to measure medication levels in blood without taking blood samples.

"In a pilot trial – the findings of which have been published in Nature Biotechnology – the patch was used to monitor levels of vancomycin, a last-resort antibiotic that was said to have always been tricky to dose.
 
The patch, which is reportedly more comfortable than standard blood draws, uses synthetic DNA-based sensors, called aptamers, to measure dosage levels."

It would be a game-changer in so many areas from chronic disease management and at-home care to drug monitoring and precision health!

Lightweight, portable, and works right at the bedside!

But it triggered a bigger question: What happens when powerful medical technologies become too accessible?

When technology becomes:
• smaller
• cheaper
• easier to use
• directly accessible to patients

Then it changes human behavior.

With handheld imaging devices, the risk is overuse, unnecessary scans, and people underestimating radiation exposure because the device "looks harmless".

We’ve already seen similar behavioral shifts with:
• Continuous glucose monitors used without medical indication
• Direct-to-consumer genetic tests interpreted without context
• Full-body MRI scans marketed as preventive screening
• Health wearables creating anxiety from perfectly normal data

So what other digital health and medical technology comes to mind that you think patients will definitely abuse?

Maybe healthcare doesn’t move fast because it’s complex, but because we tolerate slow decisions.

That thought stayed with me after a week in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The clinical challenges are the same as everywhere else. The technologies are comparable. The ambition is global. But what feels different is the willingness to decide, and to move. Fewer alignment loops. Clearer ownership. Faster execution. It made me question how much of our “complexity” narrative is structural, and how much of it is cultural.

From Saudi Arabia to United Arab Emirates, between customer meetings, user groups, the KLAS Research Middle East Summit and WHX Dubai, a few leadership themes stand out.

1️⃣ Energy Is a Leadership Multiplier

What strikes me every time in the region?

The energy, and the pride teams have in their technology.

You don’t feel people selling solutions.
You feel ownership.

The leadership question:
👉 How do we instill this level of belief and accountability across all geographies?

Purpose and visible impact seem to matter more than technology alone.

2️⃣ Partnership > Vendor

One executive from our customers told me during a coffee conversation:

“We don’t see you as a vendor. We see you as our partner.” (and he didn’t want to be called customer, he insisted on partner)

That mindset shift is powerful. Technology matters. But relationships operate at eye level. Partnership here means shared ambition and shared accountability, not transactional delivery.

3️⃣ Acceleration Is Cultural

His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said:

“We don’t wait for things to happen. We make them happen.”

You feel that: 

- Decision-making is often more centralized.
- Programs move faster. 
- Alignment happens quicker.

Same global problems. Different execution speed.

4️⃣ The Challenges Are Real — And Data-Driven
	•	~20% of adults in Saudi Arabia live with diabetes
	•	Obesity exceeds 35% in parts of the region
	•	Cardiovascular disease accounts for ~30–40% of deaths

The response: national screening programs, centralized imaging networks, AI-enabled diagnostics.

Walking through WHX reminds you how large, and urgent, the transformation agenda is.

5️⃣ Clear Signals from the Market

Three themes dominated conversations:
	•	Platform-based imaging over point solutions
	•	AI must prove operational outcomes, not just accuracy
	•	Shared governance and UX as key adoption levers

Trust and user experience are becoming stronger differentiators than algorithms alone.

I’m now heading to the UK and afterwards across the pond.

AI Isn’t Transforming Healthcare Because We Keep Protecting the Status Quo.

I had the privilege of joining a global panel at WHX Dubai sharing the GE HealthCare perspective alongside:

Across the discussions, three digital health trends stood out clearly, especially for enterprise imaging:

1. The shift from point solutions to platform‑based ecosystems
Health systems are moving toward integrated platforms spanning radiology, cardiology, digital pathology, operational data, AI services, and even home‑based care. The aim: standardised workflows and enterprise‑wide scalability.

2. AI moving from accuracy to measurable operational impact
Turnaround time, avoided misses, throughput, and clinician confidence are now front and centre. AI must be embedded directly into reading workflows with proven ROI — not deployed as isolated experiments.

3. Shared governance and clinician experience emerging as strategic levers
Governance and transparency build trust. A seamless user experience drives adoption. Without both, transformation stalls.

From my perspective, successful AI and digital innovation depend on five essential ingredients, and interestingly, technology itself is not the first one:

1. Choose the right long‑term partner

2. Define joint outcomes (and align them contractually)

3. Provide a predictable service or subscription model

4. Establish shared governance to build trust and track progress

5. Double down on user experience and change management

These are the levers that turn pilots into true, system‑wide impact.

If we’re honest, the biggest barrier to scaling AI isn’t technology, it’s our willingness to change how we partner, govern, and operate.

So here’s the real question:
Are we ready to stop running pilots… and start redesigning the system?

Healthcare’s next leap won’t come from more projects or more innovative technology; it will come from clearer focus, stronger partnerships, and the courage to unlearn what no longer serves us.

After hearing perspectives from industry peers, national leaders, innovators, and frontline clinicians, a few themes stood out with unusual clarity.

Focus is the real force accelerator.

Adam Gale reminded us that progress isn’t only about pushing harder, it’s about sharpening what we pay attention to. For healthcare, that means stripping away distractions, measuring what matters, and investing in the partnerships that help us move with purpose.

Governance isn’t bureaucracy, it’s the backbone of scale.

Her Highness’ Sheikha Dr.Alia Humaid AlQassimi work in women’s health demonstrated what disciplined, evidence‑led governance can unlock. When vision, policy, and delivery move in sync, impact becomes inevitable.

And as Rasu Shrestha MD MBA put it, we need ecosystems, not egosystems.
Transformation happens when we unlearn old assumptions, stop digitising broken workflows, and use technology to bring clinicians and patients closer together. I am sure that what Rasu is building at The Pearl CLT will become an innovation magnet


Below comes my knowledge scoop from the last 2 days:

1. Focus beats force. Real acceleration comes from clarity, not effort.

2. Governance enables scale. Strong structures and alignment deliver sustained outcomes.

3. Stop working in silos. Ecosystems unlock impact; ego‑driven innovation stalls it. We as leaders must become ecosystem architects.

4. Fix workflows before digitising them. Technology is only as good as the process underneath.

5. AI must prove value, not just concept. Real metrics matter: turnaround times, ROI, avoided misses, satisfaction.

6. Trust is still the most valuable currency. Transparency and consistency build it; fragmented initiatives erode it.

7. The shift from sick‑care to well‑care is accelerating. Preventive, personalised, continuous care is the true north.

8. Leadership requires clarity over certainty. The future won’t be predictable, but it must be intentional.

9. Adoption is the real battleground. Seamless workflows, change management, and clinical champions matter more than algorithms.

10. The future is not inherited, it’s created. And it will be built where physical and digital ecosystems converge.

Kudos to the KLAS Research team for another vibrant summit, and for the learning and exchange in these in person ecosystem meetings. It’s always a perk to meet old friends and make new connections. I even had time for a run at the marina bay enjoying this beautiful sunset (see photo).

Sustainable transformation doesn’t come from isolated wins and initiatives. It comes from alignment, governance, partnership, and purpose, a little bit from technology, and from leaders willing to unlearn and to focus on what truly matters! It’s a privilege to be part of this transformation with GE HealthCare.

Marketing is not (just) the department of branding, lead gen, and campaigns.
It’s the department of meaning!

This morning, coffee in hand, I reread a sentence of Dan White’s Smart Marketing Book, that I highlighted a while ago to reflect on it:

“Marketing also contributes to a business by underlining why the company exists, its unique contribution to the world.”

Simple line.
Big truth.

Because widening the gap between cost and price creates profit.

But widening the gap between what you do and why you exist creates belief.

And belief is a growth engine.

In healthcare, this isn’t theoretical.

As CMO of GE HealthCare’s Enterprise Imaging business, I don’t wake up thinking about campaigns.

I wake up thinking about this:
	•	Why do we exist beyond revenue?
	•	How do we make AI trusted — not just powerful?
	•	How do we help clinicians move faster, with confidence?
	•	How do we contribute to a world where healthcare has no limits?

Some people tattoo their purpose onto their skin, a permanent reminder of what they stand for.

I’m a bit more conservative and I don’t like needles;), thus I wear a bracelet that reminds me of our bold vision at GE HealthCare:

Creating a world where healthcare has no limits.

For me, that’s more than a vision statement.
It’s a reason to get up every morning and show up with energy.

Because technology alone doesn’t create trust. 

Features don’t create belief.

AI approvals don’t create preference.

Purpose does.

But purpose doesn’t live in PowerPoint slides.
It lives in product decisions.
In how we speak to customers.
In how we design workflows.
In how we show up when things get difficult.

That’s marketing’s real job.

Not polishing the message.
But pressure-testing the meaning.

In a complex industry like healthcare, clarity of purpose does three pragmatic things:

1️⃣ It aligns teams.
2️⃣ It sharpens positioning.
3️⃣ It attracts customers — and talent — who believe in the mission.

And when purpose is clear:
	•	Sales conversations accelerate.
	•	Partnerships deepen.
	•	Innovation gains direction.
	•	Teams bring energy.

Maybe the most underestimated growth lever isn’t budget.

It’s clarity.

And clarity, consistently communicated, is marketing’s responsibility.

Spotted at Dubai Airports: the LEGO Group, Roses & a Masterclass in Portfolio Reinvention 🌹✈️

On my way through Dubai Airport, I walked past what looked like a flower shop.

Except it wasn’t a flower shop.
It was LEGO.

Big headline: “Give Love that’s Built to Last.”
Bouquets made of bricks.
Prominently placed for Valentine’s Day.

At first glance, it’s cute.
At second glance, it’s strategic brilliance.

1️⃣ This isn’t about flowers. It’s about audience expansion.

LEGO didn’t just launch a seasonal SKU.
They used a cultural buying moment to expand their addressable market.

For decades, LEGO was synonymous with kids.
Today, they are deliberately building a second growth engine: adults.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect Trojan horse:
	•	Emotionally loaded purchase occasion
	•	High price tolerance
	•	Gifting-driven decision-making
	•	Massive airport traffic of last-minute buyers

They didn’t change the core product.
They changed the context.

That’s how you reinvent a portfolio without reinventing your brand.

2️⃣ Calendar moments are growth levers — not just campaign hooks

Too many companies “activate” around key dates.

The smarter ones reshape demand around them.

Consider:
	•	Starbucks turning Pumpkin Spice into an annual revenue spike.
	•	Nike using global sports moments to introduce new technology narratives.
	•	Apple leveraging Back-to-School to drive long-term ecosystem entry.
	•	LEGO reframing Valentine’s Day as an adult collectible opportunity.

Pattern:

Cultural moment
→ Reframed use case
→ New audience
→ Incremental revenue pool

That’s not tactical marketing.
That’s structural growth strategy.

3️⃣ Airports amplify emotional buying

Dubai Airport is not just a retail space.
It’s a psychological trigger zone.
	•	People are in transition.
	•	People are in reunion mode.
	•	People are in gifting mindset.
	•	People are time-pressured.

A “flower shop” that lasts forever, placed there, is almost unfairly smart.


Well played, LEGO.

You genuinely made me consider buying a brick-built bouquet.

But in the end, I walked past your stand and bought real flowers for my wife back in Germany (I brought premium dates with nuts and orange inside though from UAE), because I know she’s more of a traditional kind of person.

And that’s the beauty of it.

You didn’t need to convert everyone.
You just needed to expand the frame of what’s possible.

That’s how categories evolve.
That’s how brands grow.

And that’s how you turn a toy company into a lifestyle brand.

On my latest 🇬🇧 trip, I picked up The Shortest History of AI by Toby Walsh FAA FTSE FRSN, and it’s a reminder why every executive should understand the roots of artificial intelligence, not just the hype cycle.

In an easy read, Walsh distills decades of AI progress, from symbolic reasoning and expert systems to machine learning and today’s generative era, into clear insights:

👉 AI progress has never been linear.
👉 Breakthroughs follow winters.
👉 Hype cycles repeat.
👉 Expectations outpace reality, until they don’t.

What I appreciate most is the sober tone. No techno-utopia. No doom narrative. Just a pragmatic exploration of what AI can do, what it can’t (yet), and why governance, responsibility, and human oversight matter.

For leaders in healthcare, enterprise imaging, or any regulated industry, this context is not academic, it’s strategic. Understanding where AI comes from sharpens how we scale it responsibly today.

If the Super Bowl Is Marketing’s Biggest Stage; Why Are Brands Playing IT Safe?

Here comes an unpopular opinion for marketers:

Marketing doesn’t need less controversy.
It needs better literacy to handle it.

This year’s Super Bowl ads will lean heavily on humor and nostalgia, at least if the AI summaries in my Google account are right.

The open question:
Will that really pay off at ~$10M for 30 seconds? (That’s an all time record by the way).

Somewhere along the way, controversy disappeared from the marketer’s toolkit. Not because it stopped working, but because we stopped knowing how to use it well.

Look at the five most controversial Super Bowl ads, not to celebrate mistakes, but to understand why they still matter:

1️⃣ Just for Feet (1999)
What it triggered: Outrage over racist and colonial imagery
CMO lesson:
Provocation without cultural empathy is fatal. Blindness scales faster than awareness.

2️⃣ General Motors  – Robot (2007)
What it triggered: Backlash from suicide-prevention groups
CMO lesson:
Dark metaphors require context and consent. Shock must be proportional to impact.

3️⃣ Focus on the Family / Tim Tebow (2010)
What it triggered: Political and ethical polarization
CMO lesson:
Taking a stance means accepting division. Neutrality is also a decision—with consequences.

4️⃣ GoDaddy (2010–2013)
What it triggered: Accusations of sexism and cheap shock tactics
CMO lesson:
Attention without respect erodes long-term brand equity.

5️⃣ PepsiCo / Kendall Jenner (2017)
What it triggered: Claims of trivializing social justice
CMO lesson:
Borrowed values are riskier than having none. Authenticity isn’t optional.

The real insight for CMOs:
The problem was never controversy.
The problem was unclear intent, weak cultural understanding, or borrowed conviction.

We overcorrected:
	•	from courage → caution
	•	from point of view → neutrality
	•	from debate → compliance

The result?
Safe work that nobody remembers.

Not all controversy is good.
But brands that never provoke don’t lead, they likely follow.

Maybe what marketing needs right now isn’t fewer opinions, but stronger judgment and stronger spines.
