I didn’t take the traditional route into the car business. Hell, most people don’t. I dropped out of university to sell cars—not because it was my dream, but because I needed to survive. 

Along the way, I figured out something that changed everything:

The only thing that ever changes is the size of the deal.

Whether I was selling Jeeps on the lot, closing the first-ever Enterprise Canada fleet deal, or building a business that helped hundreds of dealers move cars across borders, the fundamentals stayed the same.

You learn how to read people, how to solve problems, how to create opportunity.

I built my career on finding the angles others miss. I found ways to make markets where others saw none. I learned that the best deals don’t happen in auction lanes—they happen in conversations.

My focus is to bring understanding of the complex world of defined benefit pension plans and actuarial science to non-actuaries through effective education and communication.

On a broader scale I am focused on being the voice of taxpayers for sensible public policy in respect of government programs such as the Canada Pension Plan and public service pension plans.  I am also interested in helping Canadians gain a better understanding of their own financial planning.

Joe Nunes

My career has been rooted in the design and funding of defined benefit pension plans sponsored by employers and unions.  Given the transition from DB to DC plans over the past thirty years, I have also done a fair bit of work on the governance of DC plans and watched the investment gurus from the sidelines.

In recent years, I have grown concerned that the employer sponsored DC model for retirement savings is not delivering adequate retirement income for many.  As a result I have started to peek into the broad topic of 'financial security' on the individual and Group DC side of the industry.  This journey has made me some new friends and out of nowhere I ended up on a podcast with a few of these friends last week.  

I have said repeatedly, most savers need the help of a good advisor to figure out the road to a comfortable retirement.  This podcast is a snippet of a variety of things workers should be thinking about beyond the simple "save 10% of your pay".
