Yes, I was a stockbroker in a past life (please refrain from drenching me in holy water), and I’m a qualified chartered financial planner.

I lived the suit and calculator life, but it wasn’t for me.

Because from the deepest, darkest depths of my proud Scottish heart, I actually give a sh*t about your financial future.

Money is still a pretty sensitive topic for many.

Some even still consider it ‘taboo’ to speak about aloud.

I understand that it might feel uncomfortable at first to have such an open and honest conversation about it.

Not everyone needs a financial advisor.

What everyone does need, is financial knowledge.

I’ll never forget sitting opposite a client who had come to me for a full A-Z breakdown of his current financial situation.

This gentleman had done well for himself.

A successful business owner who’d carved out a career in the computer game industry.

I crunched the numbers, laid it out for him, and explained his financial position.

And his financial position was GOLDEN.

I asked, “So, would you like to invest 150K in (some jazzy fund)?”

His reply?

“No, I’m good. I just wanted to know that I had enough and whether or not I could do better”

That was it.

All this chap wanted was financial peace of mind and some pointers on how to manage what was available to him in the best way possible.

And this is when I realised that not everyone needs a financial advisor.

Some just need a financial coach in their corner who is invested in their financial health, and can show them how to make the most of their hard-earned money.

The client above didn’t want to pull the wool over his eyes.

He didn’t want to sit and hope everything was hunky-dorey.

He didn’t want to risk his financial future by living ignorant bliss of his financial present.
