Het is weer zo’n periode waarin alles tegelijk op me afkomt: werk, gezin, to-do’s, agenda’s, verwachtingen, ... de “pressure cooker” 😤. Herkenbaar?

Standaard ga ik dan nog harder op de gas staan, wat allesbehalve druk wegneemt. Maar ik slaag er steeds vaker in dat patroon te doorbreken. 

Door terug te grijpen naar drie simpele stappen:

1️⃣ Verruimen
Even uitzoomen en perspectief creëren.
Mezelf afvragen: wat is echt belangrijk, wat probeer ik hier echt te doen?

2️⃣ Vertragen
Hoe meer druk ik ervaar, hoe trager ik moet gaan. Niet blindweg harder op de gas duwen dus. Dan wordt je perspectief net wazig.

3️⃣ Verbinden
Heel vaak sneuvelt dan ook de tijd en ruimte voor verbinding. Wat alles dan weer negatief versterkt. Dat zie ik heel fel thuis met de kids → minder verbinding, dan gaan ze meer in weerstand staan, duurt alles langer, … 🤯

Ik moet hier zelf meestal tien keer tegen een muur voor knallen voor ik eraan denk wel 😅. 

Hopelijk heeft iemand er iets aan voor we alweer de laatste maand van het jaar induiken!

Iceberg, right ahead 🚢 ! And yet, many of us still don't see it. How we spend so much of our energy, just.. reacting.

The Iceberg Model is a simple and powerful way to shift your focus from constant firefighting to creating real, lasting change.

Here’s how to use it to find the root cause (in business, client work, or even in parenting, like me 😅 ):

1️⃣ The event level: What's happening?
2️⃣  The pattern level: What's happening over time?
3️⃣ The structures level: What's influencing the pattern? 
4️⃣ The mental models level: What beliefs are keeping this in place?

Example:
A long-time customer won't renew (event). Churn has been increasing by 3% every quarter for the past year (pattern). Product stability has dropped because engineering team was incentivized for new features over stability (structure). Acquisition is the only metric that matters, for which we need new features (core belief).

So you can offer discounts to churning customers to try and fix the event. But will it solve the churn issue? 

The point of the model isn’t to dramatize the weight of what we can't see. It's to guide understanding to what really drives change. To pause reactivity and organize with intention. Root cause thinking so you can take the right action.

If you only fix the event, you’ll see it again, and again. But if you understand the structure or the belief underneath, you can actually change the outcome 💪 .
