Sales people don't ask "can you see my screen?" because they wonder if you can see their screen. 

They ask it to get you to look up from your phone for a few seconds.

Just got qualified out by a sales rep in a demo, like HARD qualified out. 

Honestly, part of me respects that. Focus on your ICP.

The thing is, they also have a self-service plan that might have been a fit for us. A nudge in that direction instead of slamming a door might have been a better choice. 

Now, though, we're checking out a couple of their close competitors. And in the next few months we're quite possibly scaling into their ICP and they'll have missed an opportunity to be a core part of our growth.

UPDATE: Edit to add some context based on the comments below. We were always going to look at the competition next, but we started with the category leader. Now that we have price points, the category leader self-serve is about the same price as full service from some of the others. 

The opportunity I think the rep missed was to pitch us on why their self-service may still be better than getting stuck on a runner-up product. That may be a product marketing failure more than a rep failure. Not sure what their internal positioning or enablement looks like.

Most marketing leaders don’t pay much attention to sales quota and comp plans. But quota attainment and pipeline coverage have a big impact on how marketing is perceived. 

You need to know how reps are motivated and rewarded. You need to know whether your sales leader wants them lean and hungry or fat and happy.
