My foray into writing began in a parking lot, whilst I was waiting for my kids’ co-curriculars to get over. There is not one local cop that didn’t wonder what I did every day, with a ‘MacBook’ and a ‘thumbs up’ can, outside the City’s activity centre! 

My debut book, Pursuit – Drawn by Destiny stands as a testament to my unwavering belief in the power of faith. It was nominated by the Valley of Words Literature Festival, held in Dehradun and was also a finalist under the English Fiction category by the International Book Awards, U.S.A. It has also won two digital awards as well as been featured across various publications, both national and international. 

My writing journey is spread across many mediums and I have been featured for my work with India Today, DNA, Pop Diaries, Clout News, Times of India, Garhwal Post, Pioneer, and prestigiously and most recently – ANI. I writes in various genres that range from contemporary fiction, young adult to self help and non fiction.

I sat 20 ft away from the Prime Minister of India

Wearing an awarded honorary government blazer.

It was given in trust, in recognition, in silence-breaking symbolism.

They said writing wouldn’t get me anywhere. 

And then, life gave me moments that answered for me.

They answered every doubt, every silence, every smirk I once swallowed.

This was one of them.

I wasn’t born into power. 
I built proximity to it, word by word.

For years, I heard it:
 “Writing isn’t a real job.” 
“It’s a hobby, not a career.” 
“You think this will actually get you anywhere?”

And then, I got invited to a national rally as an honorary member of my State's media team. 

Not as press. Not as audience. But as the voice behind those on stage.

I sat among bureaucrats, politicians, advisors. 

The very people I now write speeches, columns, and history for. 

Because when they said, “You can’t make it with just words,” 
I decided to do exactly that.

Today, it doesn’t just pay my bills. It opens un-Googleable doors. It builds reputations. It shapes leaders.

So, I asked again and again! And again. 

Turns out, I did win and as luck would have it, was already committed to a keynote up north - like way way up north!

He called me from a thatched hut!  

And it broke my heart.  

A young man booked a call with me on my @topmate.io account  

I logged in as usual, expecting to find a student with his door shut and headphones on, eagerly listening to me.  

But what I saw was a young high school child - Scared, Anxious and Confused.  

He asked to speak in our mother tongue, Hindi  

And after a few minutes, spoke of his desire to write like me. 

 He said he had been following my work and was practising how to write with screenshots of my Linkedin and Instagram posts.  

India is a land of disparity.  This I am aware of.  

But seeing the condition of where he stays and of his willingness to try and work touched my heart.  

We don't know the impact we make.  

When we post or share content.  

So, all I want to say is - Keep writing, Keep leading, Keep inspiring

There was a time when I felt like a fraud.

My LinkedIn said one thing. My heart felt another.

I was posting about "authentic leadership" while wearing a mask I'd crafted for years.

The content was polished. The engagement was high. The brand was... empty.

Because somewhere between building what I thought people wanted to see and who I actually was, I'd lost myself.

The wake-up call came during a client call.

She said, "Pooja, your content feels different lately. Less... you."

The shift wasn't instant. It was uncomfortable.

I started sharing the behind-the-scenes. The failures alongside the wins.

The days when I felt like I was drowning in my own advice.

Some followers left. Good.

Others stayed and said, "Finally. This is why I follow you."

I never thought I'd get published

but when I pitched to one of India's biggest publishers,

I knew self-belief was my only currency.

Three years ago, I had an idea for a book.

A passion project about teenagers that kept me awake at night.

But here's the thing - I had zero publishing credentials.

No literary agent. No fancy connections. Just conviction.

The rejection emails started pouring in:

"Not what we're looking for right now."
"Your platform isn't big enough."
"Come back when you have more followers."

That's when I made a decision that changed everything.

Instead of shrinking, I doubled down on my belief.

I researched the publisher's entire catalog. I studied their audience. I crafted a proposal that spoke their language, not mine.

Most importantly? I pitched my expertise, not my desperation.

The meeting lasted 20 minutes.

They said yes on the spot.

Not because I was the most qualified author in the room.

But because I believed in my message so deeply, they couldn't ignore it.

Self-confidence isn't arrogance. It's preparation meeting opportunity.

This is the story I swore I'd never tell.

But here I am, typing it out.

Three years ago, I walked into a boardroom full of executives.

Halfway through my presentation, my voice cracked.

Not from nerves. From exhaustion.

Instead of powering through with a fake smile, I stopped.

I looked around the room and said, "I need to be honest. I'm going through something difficult, and it's affecting my energy. But I believe in this work."

The room went silent.

I thought I'd just tanked my career.

But something unexpected happened.

The CEO leaned forward and said, "Thank you for being real with us. Let's talk about how we can support you."

That vulnerability didn't make me weak in their eyes.

It made me human.

I stopped competing years ago.

Here’s what I am learning (And I'm 47 now)  

→ No one’s coming to save you 
Not your mentor. Not your LinkedIn connections. 
You want a seat at the table? Pull up a chair.  

→ Networking isn’t cringe. 
I used to think networking is awkward small talk 
Turns out, it’s just making friends. Friends who introduce you to opportunities.  

→ Speak up before you’re ready. 
Waiting until you “feel qualified” is like waiting for a perfect avocado.  

→ Bet on yourself. I spent years building other people’s dreams. 
Then I realized — I could be my own best investment.  

→ Failure Is free feedback. 
Fell flat on my face? Great. Now I know what not to do.  

→ Your time Is sacred. If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no. 
(Even if Karen from accounting insists it’s “just a quick meeting.”)  

→ Perfection is a scam. 
You don’t need 10 certifications or a polished brand. 
You need to start. Messy is fine.  

→ Curiosity Wins. I ask questions. A lot. 
Turns out, people like talking about themselves. And you learn a ton.  

→ Say no more often. Not every opportunity is your opportunity. 
And “maybe” is just a slow no.  

→ You’re Never Too Late. 44 wasn’t “too late.” It was right on time.  

And if you’re thinking it’s too late for you? It’s not.  

Trust me - the view from the starting line is pretty damn good.
