I've been doing this since 2001. And honestly, almost all of what I see from newer operators today is straight trash.

Last week I met with a Sales VP who I felt was operating a few years ahead of most sales leaders. 

Instead of the typical questions like “How many leads can you get us?” or “How many meetings can you book?”, he asked something very different:

Here’s a list of outreach tactics that used to feel clever but now scream "automated and forgettable":

– “Saw you liked a post about [X]…” → Cool. So did 2,000 others.
 – “Congrats on 23k followers!” → My scraper thanks you.
 – “Heard you on [podcast from 2022]” → You and 12,000 tools, apparently.

Go for short and boring-looking emails / DMs that:

What they actually have is one working part of a five-piece engine.

If LinkedIn isn’t turning into pipeline, run this checklist honestly:

Profile
- Is your headline actually attention-worthy? Pro tip: You don’t need another “I help X do Y.” headline. Clear always beats clever.
- Is your banner communicating your brand and offer in three seconds?
- Is your About section written like a landing page, not a boring biography?
- Is your Featured section showing proof, not placeholders?
- Would a stranger feel confident booking a call after reading your profile?

Content
- Are you posting consistently enough for people to recognize you?
- Do your posts teach something specific to your market? 
- Is your POV clear enough that people associate you with a problem area?
- Are you building familiarity or filling space?

Ads
- Are you using ads to warm your audience instead of hard-selling them?
- Do your ads match the story your profile and content tell?
- Is retargeting always on?
- Do you measure qualified attention instead of cheap clicks?

Outreach
- Are your DMs contextual, not scripted?
- Are you building extremely dialed in lists? 
- Are you reaching out to people who have already seen your content or ads?
- Is your follow-up thoughtful? 
- Does your message feel familiar because you’ve earned that familiarity   elsewhere?

Consistency
- Are you tracking impressions, profile visits, and reply rates weekly?
- Are you doing outreach every single hour of every single day? 
- Are you repurposing content instead of reinventing it?
- Do you have a rhythm, or are you posting only when inspiration strikes?
- Is your team aligned on how they show up on LinkedIn?

Most well-intentioned CEOs and revenue leaders I speak with aren’t lacking effort - they’re lacking the systems, automations, and funnels to make any of this happen consistently.
