I’m a husband, dad of two, ultramarathoner, and brand builder. I currently lead operations and marketing at Atomic Coffee Roasters and help grow Atomic Black, our coffee liqueur brand.

At Atomic Coffee Roasters, a family-run, second-generation business, I oversee everything from DTC growth and brand strategy to production and operations. We roast specialty-grade coffee at our Peabody facility and produce cold brew at our Danvers site. Five years ago, Loud Pow was just a ski-themed winter blend.
 
In 2026, it will fund ski trips for 90 Boston kids.
 
Every February, Loud Pow returns, and each year the impact grows. This year, we're supporting 6 fully-funded trips through Elevate Youth.

I quit smoking 13 years ago this month.

Smoker → ultramarathoner in 3 years.

The lessons I learned continue to shape my mindset every single day.

I didn't say "I'm going to quit smoking" on the first day.

Instead, I said, "I'm not going to smoke today".

When I first thought about never smoking again, it made me anxious. But focusing on just not having a cigarette today? That felt manageable.

Each day, I told myself, "Not today."

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. The growing streak became its own motivation: "It's been three months—I can’t start over now!"

That simple shift in mindset still shapes how I approach change.

Big, “forever” changes can feel overwhelming, like an impossible commitment. But deciding to make a change just for today? That’s easy.

Keep repeating that process, and before you know it, the days, months, and years will add up.

What is a cortado?

✅ espresso with roughly equal amount of steamed milk (about a 1:1 ratio)

✅ a name that comes from the Spanish word cortar, meaning "to cut"

✅ typically 4 oz total (2 oz espresso + 2 oz milk)

A cortado is not:

❌ a "tiny latte"

❌ "weak" because it's small

❌ an 8 oz drink

A cortado is my go-to morning drink when I'm at a shop that will do it justice.

Let's make a Revolver ✨

This three-ingredient cocktail is a twist on the Manhattan, featuring bourbon, coffee liqueur, and orange bitters.

Recipe:

2 oz bourbon
0.5 oz Atomic Black
2 dashes orange bitters

Stir with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and garnish with an orange peel.

Roast date vs best by date.

Not the same thing!

Roast date = the day the coffee was roasted.

Best by date = a deadline that’s usually set for shelf life and retailer sell-through, not peak flavor.

If you’re chasing flavor and freshness, the roast date is the one you want.

Peak flavor (for most coffee) is usually in the first few weeks after it’s roasted.

That’s when it’s most vibrant, sweet, and expressive.

That’s why we include roast dates on most of our bags, and why I always look for them when I’m buying coffee.

If you’ve never checked a roast date before, next time you buy a bag, take a look!

Washed vs natural vs honey.
 
These are coffee "processing methods".
 
Not roast levels. Not flavor profiles (at least directly).
 
The processing method is what happens to the coffee cherry after it's picked.
 
Washed: Fruit is removed right away. The seeds are fermented in water to break down the sticky layer, then washed clean. Result: Cleaner, brighter, more "coffee-forward" taste. Most coffee is processed this way.
 
Natural: The whole cherry dries in the sun with the fruit still on before the seeds are removed. Result: Fruitier, sweeter, sometimes wine-like. Common in Brazil and Ethiopia.
 
Honey: Skin of the fruit comes off, but the sticky inside layer stays on while drying. Result: Somewhere in between washed and natural. Extra sweetness with a little more clarity. Became popular in Costa Rica due to a period of water usage restrictions.
 
You could have the same coffee taste like three completely different cups depending on how it's processed.
 
Next time you see these terms on a bag, you'll know what to expect!

Coffee's real superpower isn't caffeine.
 
It's connection.
 
"Let's grab a coffee" has started more friendships, business ideas, and real conversations than most people give it credit for.
 
It's one of the only drinks that brings people together like that without alcohol involved.
  
There's a lot to love about coffee, but this might be my favorite.
